I have a question about playing this piece. How do you manage to stretch your fingers (and not run out of fingers) to play both the notes on the sixth string and the notes on the second and third string in the intro? I'm using guitar tabs to learn this piece, and it says to use your thumb for the sixth string, but it doesn't seem right. When I try to play with four fingers, I get stuck because I run out of fingers to play with.

I dont think ive really noticed this until right now, But you dont use a pick in this video do you? Ive heard of finger picking style before, As a musician I naturally have noticed that mark tremonti does use this technique alot. But I use a pick for this song... Lol so am I in the wrong if I can master this masterpiece with a pick? :P

@TheAntimute Yes I use a pick for most of the song. I just don't use a pick for the clean finger picked parts. I only finger pick when there is finger picking in the song... for instance playing 2 or 3 notes at the same time that would otherwise be impossible with a pick.

@patalbrod here's a tip, start from Tremonti's beginning with Creed's My Own Prison album and work up from there while practicing his techniques. I have a PRS Tremonti Tribal (#60 of 100) and 2011 PRS Singlecut SE with American Tremonti pickups. The effects are coming in time, but I got the Morley Tremonti Patriot wah and working on getting the T-rex pedals. Reall good playing AlterTremonti; what did you base your finger picking off of?

I suggest taking private lessons, you learn alot from that and pretty fast too, but yeah, you just need to have the feel for it aswell I guess.. :P

@kriskilpatrick91 nah no nerves here... its cool. if there was a way I could get this quality audio while playing to a live track trust me i would much rather do that... it would be way less time consuming. but this is the only way I know how with the equipment that I have. Besides I only do this to help ppl learn the songs (so audio quality is of upmost importance)... most of my time goes into my bands original material and live shows... which is why I rarely post covers anymore.

@AlterTremonti Solution: spend a small bit of money and record directly to your PC as you play. Then spend a few minutes learning how to sync audio and video tracks if you don't already know how and line up the audio from your Line-In recording with the video from your camera. Cheap fix, but it fantastic (audio) quality compared to most videos of covers on YouTube. As for video quality itself, you'll just need a better camera, but I'm sure you already knew that.
