I wish I could have a Dingo.... I don´t live in Australia, but been able to watch them on TV. I admire those dogs. Remeber extintion is for ever. I had a friend whose dog was part (not even half, but I believe a quarter?) dingo; she was the smartest, fastest, and sweetest dog you could ever meet (not sure what else was in her though; her fur was darker than a dingo's but she had the same ears and fairly similar body type with few noticeable variations (slightly bigger muscles, ect).

Just as is starting to be seen in Yellowstone keeping the numbers of larger herbavores in check helps maintain the biodiversity of plants and aniamls. Its also becoming apparent that dingoes keep fox, cat and rabbit numbers in check, benefiting smaller endangered marsupials.

actually killing pure dingoes only makes the problem worse. Dingoes have their own territory which they will defend from other canines. By removing dingoes you allow the feral dogs (re domestic dogs gone wild) and dingo/feral dog hybrids to get a foothold. Dingoes will only breed once a yeaar where as domestic dogs will breed three time every two years and sometimes twice a year. This leads to vast increases in population.

Dingos aren't native to Australia. No placental mammals are, except maybe bats that flew in. Dingos were introduced by the very first indigenous Australian settlers such a long time ago that they became wild again, long before Europeans arrived. I don't believe that it's right to exterminate such beautiful dogs though. I'd love to have one as a pet if they weren't so unsuitable, they're just beautiful.
