I think the perfect game to hand off creatively to a new development team would be the originals.
Metal Gear, & Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake. There's enough elbow room for creative freedom that they'd have to fail pretty hard to ruin the series' mythos.

But it wouldn't make sense to see Old Snake up and running in another game, he was dying at the end MGS4, it would screw up the story The only possible way that gamers would see Snake again is if Kojima remakes Metal Gear 1+2. I really hope he remakes them, I would love to see MG1+2 in 3D.
@solidsnake7730 Think about it for a bit and realize that's a silly idea. They rarely make remakes like that, and the part of the games themselves was the charm of the old gen consoles. I doubt Kojima would like to remake them when he said himself that he's perfectly satisfied with how the MGS 1-3 came out.
I too however, would like to see more of MGS but sadly some stories must come to an end.
I've played all mgs from the day it came to ps1, best game period! Even thou i like the old ones more then the new ones. New ones so overboosted with super soldiers, 2 much hightech and stuff, thats why mgs 1 (ps1) is the best, they weren't over natural, and when they died they didnt explode to some freakin birds and shit, they died normaly, with blod pools.. @HerraMiccelangelo There's a huge cutscene where Big Boss tells snake that he isn't going to release the new FOXDIE because it isnt spreading inside his body anymore. Snake Eater focused on Naked Snake, AKA Big Boss, and he doesnt even die in that one either. Big Boss died at the end of MGS4.
They could easily use the clones made from Big Boss as a way to create more Solid Snakes.. Just one locked away in a test tube in some facility or something would work nicely to bring back a new, younger snake. Although before that there are plenty of gaps in the story that we could have told. Big Boss and his story after MGS3, Snakes story before the events of 2 and 4. Hell I would fucking love a remake of Metal Gear 1 and 2.

Guys I have an idea i'd love to share with you, For the next MGS in the series excluding Rising Revengance they should make it so You Play as Old Snake and Otacon creates a cure. Last moment thing. As you progress through the game Snake gets younger till the age he'd actually be. He gets faster stronger etc. Last mission Snake puts on the original Sneaking Suit and picks up the original Socom and FAMAS. Story line could be something deep at Frank Jaegar AKA Gray Fox. Astonishing grafics (could use a bit more color though,) great nostalgic game soundtrack, that to this day, make me shed a tear or two. a bit dodgy dialogue though (mostly just characters going "huh?" or "whuh?" at random questions before answering them.) But the story is where it really does hit the ball out of the park. It's just brilliant. You feel for the characters (except for Raiden, obviously,) and you really want snake to succeed though, you know he wont. All in all A-.

@iamwarwick Well, there is a reason for it. Raiden was a generic peace of spam of a character, in my opinion. There was NOTHING remotely interesting about, to the point where his backstory pretty much wrote itself. And it wasn't an improvement that they made him a breaking dancing ninja cyborg, because in japanese culture, who the fuck isn't a breaking dancing cyborg these days. And they made his dialouge EVEN MORE generic, with a little taste of emo. But that's just me.

I don't know why most of people who likes the MGS series, RPG games, etc, always talk shit about Call of Duty, I'm a huge fan of the MGS games, but CoD games are very nice too, MW 1 and MW 2 probably have one of the best stories ever written for a FPS game, if you don't like it, probably it's because you don't like FPS games, but don't go saying that they are shit just because you don like this genre.
This song grounds me everytime i listen to it. I grew up with metal gear. I purchased the PS3 just to play this game. I purposly avoided any reviews of the game in order to experience everything without any spoilers. Only thing i didn`t like was the cutscenes being just alittle to long. But it adds to the atmosphere. And when i got to the end credits, i felt great like i always do at the ending of each games. Soundwork and music is the best :)
Love this game. And the rest of the series. They had a good story. All the way to the end. Wish I could finish the game for the first time and be blown away again :\

@netskot 4-5 hours is pretty generous. I got the Big Boss rating in 2 hours 48 minutes without even needing to rush. I just skipped all of the cutscenes, which is obviously mandatory if you're going for that rating.
@netskot Yes it is. In fact that's all it is. IIRC In order to get the Big Boss rating you need to complete the game on The Boss Extreme difficulty in under five hours with no alerts, no kills, no continues and no recovery items used. There is literally no way you can possibly rush through the game blindly AND meet all of those requirements.
I reckon I spent 90% of my play time crawling around with the MK II pistol. So no, I didn't rush. And it still only took me 2 hours 38 minutes.
@netskot And of course I didn't do it on my first playthrough. On my first playthrough I watched all of the cutscenes, and I completed it in around 12 hours. And obviously 9 of those hours were cutscenes. Granted my first playthrough was on normal, and I did kill enemies and get alerts.
There's no way you can spend much more than four hours actually playing this game in one playthrough. Unless you're just mucking around and actively trying to drag it out.
@TheBaccaraa metal gear solid 3 had a mode where they edited all of the cutscenes together so it was just cutscenes so you could watch it like a movie.
Even though I started with the first MGS, I too grew up with Snake to some extent. I've been a bit skeptical towards modern games but I'm just starting to play this now, and fucking hell... what a game it is. The introduction alone was enough to bring me to tears, and I'm sure there'll be more by the end. To feel such genuine emotion for a game character, to feel as though you've shared in all of their experiences... Hideo Kojima is a visionary unparalleled in the video games industry.
This game is living proof that video games are a form of art and this song and Father & Son are just pieces of the overall experience. Metal Gear Solid 4 is going to be the bar all game designers are going to aim for in making an artful game.

god i can remember seeing this back in 2007 getting it in 2008 playing it all the way until some crackheads stole my ps3. but that was one hell of an experience, 72 hours straight mgo on survival days i ate raw ramen with hot beer (because i forgot to drink when cold) day after day trolling till survival then survival and i made some friends in there unlike any other game since the old days (like 2000ish when there were no servers). never forget the patriots in our world still truly exist
even though i've never played it i have watched my brother play and complete all of them and i felt the story as much as everyone else who loves MGS so seeing snake in MGS4 was really sad and heartbreaking

I don't know why most of people who likes the MGS series, RPG games, etc, always talk shit about Call of Duty, I'm a huge fan of the MGS games, but CoD games are very nice too, MW 1 and MW 2 probably have one of the best stories ever written for a FPS game, if you don't like it, probably it's because you don't like FPS games, but don't go saying that they are shit just because you don like this genre.

This song grounds me everytime i listen to it. I grew up with metal gear. I purchased the PS3 just to play this game. I purposly avoided any reviews of the game in order to experience everything without any spoilers. Only thing i didn`t like was the cutscenes being just alittle to long. But it adds to the atmosphere. And when i got to the end credits, i felt great like i always do at the ending of each games. Soundwork and music is the best :)

its like watching a movie, a damn good movie

@netskot 4-5 hours is pretty generous. I got the Big Boss rating in 2 hours 48 minutes without even needing to rush. I just skipped all of the cutscenes, which is obviously mandatory if you're going for that rating.

@netskot Yes it is. In fact that's all it is. IIRC In order to get the Big Boss rating you need to complete the game on The Boss Extreme difficulty in under five hours with no alerts, no kills, no continues and no recovery items used. There is literally no way you can possibly rush through the game blindly AND meet all of those requirements.
I reckon I spent 90% of my play time crawling around with the MK II pistol. So no, I didn't rush. And it still only took me 2 hours 38 minutes.

@netskot And of course I didn't do it on my first playthrough. On my first playthrough I watched all of the cutscenes, and I completed it in around 12 hours. And obviously 9 of those hours were cutscenes. Granted my first playthrough was on normal, and I did kill enemies and get alerts.
There's no way you can spend much more than four hours actually playing this game in one playthrough. Unless you're just mucking around and actively trying to drag it out.

Even though I started with the first MGS, I too grew up with Snake to some extent. I've been a bit skeptical towards modern games but I'm just starting to play this now, and fucking hell... what a game it is. The introduction alone was enough to bring me to tears, and I'm sure there'll be more by the end. To feel such genuine emotion for a game character, to feel as though you've shared in all of their experiences... Hideo Kojima is a visionary unparalleled in the video games industry.

god i can remember seeing this back in 2007 getting it in 2008 playing it all the way until some crackheads stole my ps3. but that was one hell of an experience, 72 hours straight mgo on survival days i ate raw ramen with hot beer (because i forgot to drink when cold) day after day trolling till survival then survival and i made some friends in there unlike any other game since the old days (like 2000ish when there were no servers). never forget the patriots in our world still truly exist
