  • Great song. Looks like the beach scene was at Malibu

  • saben..¿ lo que deja este chavo..es un distrito federal..para quien quiera oir la semblanza de confiar,,,,

  • I wonder if he listened to the Velvet Underground's "Sweet Jane" and thought--"mmm great riff--I'll put a different song to it. That's it!" I am not making fun of him, I really like him and this song.

  • i've always wondered the same, haha, anyway is quite a tune

  • Everyone has used Sweet Jane's progression, Jakob wouldn't be the first to lift it.

  • VERY GOOD SONG!!!

  • he bob dylans son

  • huh WOW no shit, did you find that out all by yourself?

  • knob ed

  • Jakob Dylan is so great. I love the way he sings. Its so nice, so raw. Plus, he's the absolute most gorgeous man i've ever seen in my life. musically inclined AND handsome. mmm. :) great video.

  • Jakob Dylan is no other than the son of the legendary Bob, never mind Bruce Sprinsteen.

  • Damn right, you tell 'em.

  • i truly believe that bruce springsteen is singing this song...it is so damn similar to his voice

  • In JERSSSSSEEEEEYYYYYYY

  • if i saw him coming from the water on my boat i would be like o shit run zombie

  • Hehe yeah. Why do all of their music videos appear obsessed with Jake Dylan's pretty-boy looks above all else?

  • You hear his voice? He's allowed to be a narcissus with that kind of talent.

  • I wasn't asking that in reference to Jakob Dylan himself, but the directors who shoot their music videos and don't seem to understand the songs at all. This album in particular is quite dark and austere, but the videos make them seem a like huge commercial product like something shot for the Backstreet Boys or U2. The Wallflowers' music isn't just about Jake or his good looks - in fact it has virtually nothing to do with the latter.

  • Ohhhh, i understand now. lol. I totally agree with you. This album was actually pretty dark, and it both depresses me and makes me happy at the same time. Which might be hard to understand. I love the music but it it indeed dark and it makes me sad when i listen to it.

  • i could not agree more, i actually had to stop the video after 30 seconds, quite possibly could have tainted one of my favorite songs

  • leonard cohen

  • This song has always been my fav from BDTH

  • I always loved this song, didn't know there was a video though..

  • I danced with my first LOVE 2 this one........

I loved every second if it and I remember everu second if it

  • I love this video. Its so...different.

  • this is a great song , whos his daddy/

  • bob dylan ha

  • wouldnt surprise me...he always knew how to write a simple song that hit the soul

  • this is a nice song-- it reminds me of the song "which way to the top" by fastball-- anybody ever heard it?

  • jakob's got alot of talent. wish people would stop comparing him to his father but that's reality.

  • he sent me a knife

but i had to give it away cause i would have used it for bad things

    thanks again JAKob

  • sounds like his Dad on this one more than most....

  • love this song!

  • they do make more of him, melissa! he is awesome and one of a kind, no doubt, but giiiiirl, there are so many mindblowing men to meet. he can set your standard, and then just open your eyes and go on some adventures. love has some crazy disguises . . .

  • Looks like this was filmed in Venice Beach, Ca. ??

  • such a good song.

  • This is soo not fair... They should make more of him!

  • JaKob, the K is essential and delicious.

  • This has essence of Dylan.

  • lucky,great band uh?

  • Jacob Dylan is the man alright...born from a true God

  • *JaKob.

  • if he mumbled the two would be indestinguishable lol

  • Jacob Dylan is the man...

  • Does anyone else find it ironic that he is walking on water?

  • he is bob dylans son......

  • I get to go to a Wallflowers concert in August! :)

I love this song and all of their others!

  • Super, I see they'll be in Indy July 28th,

I'll be goin' to that one!

    PEACE

  • I saw them today, July 2nd at the Kiswick....you're gonna love it...they were amazing live

  • If only this album had been out in 1994 you might have memories of it from that year. Try '96.

  • lol

  • wow. this shit is shit.

  • Comment removed

  • One of the most beautiful man ever!

  • Jakob Dylan makes me salivate.

  • from where?

  • Hmmmm...hadn't even considered that!

  • my name is marlana. i'm serious.

i like to say this song is about me, but its about a prostitute...so it's really not.

  • it could be...

  • ha.

  • Some of the best music of the 90's. Never get that kind of music again, or the feelings we got from it. :(

  • Oh gosh yes. 94 was my best year ever. I will never feel that way again. Sometimes it hurts to hear these songs because there are so many memories that rush back to me.

  • isn't it amazing how a song can do that? takes you back to a time and a place. music is great in that way. =)

  • a great undiscoverd song!

  • undiscovered? how old are you, like ten?

  • i bet you if u ask a random person on the street they would have NO idea wat this song is... to me that is undiscovered!

  • I apologize for my rudeness. It just seemed odd to me that no one would know this song as the album charted #4 for several weeks in 1997, with this track in the top 25. Admittedly it was never as popular as One Head Light. This was my favorite album at the time.

  • it's okay! lol and BTW u were off by 3 years! 13! i didn't know they were charted #4! so maybe ur right

  • you seem like a nice kid...but your a fuckin idiot

  • ... ur mean!

  • damn dude stop being a dick munch hes only 13 chill out

  • I'm slightly older than that and I still knew that much about the Wallflowers :)

  • i live near detroit ... nuff sed

  • wow, the electric organ sounds like something straight out of one of his dad's songs.

  • great stuff

  • like father like son that talent is awesome im glad to say i love em both poetic beautys they are

  • maybe I'm wrong, but is he Bob Dylan's son?

  • yeah he is

  • this really a sweet song

  • lou reed. sweet jane

  • LOL, I THINK 6th Avenue was thier first number. It was a long time ago.

  • 1996-I miss the 90's

  • I hear that. I miss them too...Good times.

  • indeed, it was the first "real" song he wrote

  • 6th Avenue Heartache is also a great track. Adam Duritz sing backing vocals on it and they sound amazing together. I saw the WallFlowers at summerfest in Milwaukee and their first number was 6th Avenue heart and when the first chorus started Adam Duritz walked out and sang backup. It was cool because there was no mention made of his being there. The crowd went crazy. Marcus Amphatheater in Milwaukee is a great place to see a show btw.

  • comment me back

    great vid GQ

  • ah capo so thats why when i play this song it sounds wrong!!! ha

    D Aadd9 and G class haha

  • I thought it was the same as Semi-Charmed life: G, Cadd9, and D ? Maybe I'm wrong. Just sounds alot alike.

  • my band used to cover this song. It's fun to play and easy. Just capo the first fret and your chord progression is D, A, and G.

  • What are the guitar chords for this song? I think it's D, Dsus, and the rest I don't know...

  • The Wallflowers are great, This whole album is amazing.

  • It is!

I got the album that this song is on as a gift long before I got into music!.

I have lost it since then... But I'm glad it's here on YouTube

    (:

  • about 9 or 10 years ago I traded it for a stupid ass MTV Party to Go 99 CD from a friend. I got ripped. I should have kept it.

  • I think to play this song you need a capo on the 3'rd fret and it is just two power chords going back and forth, you can hear it on the song, it sounds easy. Hope that helped a little. By the way great song!

  • someone please tell me how to play this on guitar.

  • Cool Song, I love Playing This Song on Guitar

  • Wow. That was the most beautiful thing I've ever watched (no hyperbole!). What splendor! Definitely, right through Heavens Gate.

  • Haha! Just starting guitar lessons, and this is gonna be one of the first songs we play. =) Awesome song.

  • they rock!!!!can't wait to go to there comeback tour.!!!

  • da wallflowrs r amazin...this is their best song

  • 1:33 that's my friend's car. XD

  • was this in manhattan beach ca?

  • yeah.

  • great song and cd!!they came out with other ones after this that are good too

  • <33

  • you guys are both wrong, this is "Sweet Jane" By the Velvet Underground, but with a much better chorus.

  • ha ha ha...lol...I am a fan of Jakob...but that's a very funny observation...thanks...but to be honest I think it's taken some of the luster off the song...he he...

  • probably my fav by them.

  • bamerault, this song does not sound anything like "If Not For You." And I believe "My Sweet Lord" is George Harrison's most popular song; if I'm not mistaken. Have a good day.

  • JeffRebornNow, I don't think you've listened to the main chord progression. I didn't say that "if not for you" was George Harrison's mos famous song, what I did say was that his version of "if not for you" is the most popular. You're a little confused, this is a video site, go to George Harrison' "if not for you", the lead guitar chords are in "slide" but they're the same.

  • this is a nice song

  • Oh god...him soaked just makes him even more hotter...i love his eyes..i love his voice..it sends chills down my spine..and all of his songs have such a deep meaning behind them..he deserves to be famous <3

ill always be a fan..thats for sure =)

  • i feel the same way!!!

  • Holy shit that's my name. Marlena Essery! I in my whole 24 years on this Earth i have only heard of me name 3 three time.

  • The chord progression is the same as in "if not for you", written by "Bob Dylan" , the most popular recording by George Harrison. Have a listen!

  • its jesus?

  • I am one of the 3 Marlena's

  • Anyone else think that this video used matrix-like effects...before the matrix? You know with the freeze-frame-rotation stuff. Obviously not as good as the movie, but looked really cool the first time I saw it.

  • does the beggining of this song sounds familiar? I think i've heard it in another song...

does anyone know what I'm talking about ??

    =/

  • I always got the beginning of this song mixed up with "Brick" by Ben Folds Five, but that's a bit of a stretch.

  • they hosed him down for this video.

  • is there a video of that how do u know?

  • I wish there was a video but, no, I found it on this Jakob Dylan fansite.

  • Phuken love this song.!!

  • True, RicPhlar, and they r right...but that's just MY opinion. Peace, dude.

  • Like A Rolling Stone...best song in history. No one outwrote Dylan and doubt if anyone ever will.

  • Musical taste is subjective. Great music is too diverse and is impossible to rank. The self-appointed experts at Rolling Stone magazine try to do it by putting anything by Dylan and obscure music no one ever heard of on all their 'greatest' lists. It's just opinions.

  • my skinny minny jakie;)

  • Jakob is so hot in this video!

  • wallflowers where and will always be better then those sell out bands

  • I wouldn't walk across the street to hear his father, but this guy is good. This guy sings decent and in tune, something Bob Dylan never accomplished.

  • serious respct you but completely disagree with you

  • Completely disagree man. Bob dylan isn't about his singing, he's about his lyrics, dont get me wrong, I think that man can sing, but thats not why he's brilliant, it's his words and his mind.

  • You're free to disagree. Personally, I don't care much for protest/overly political type music. Same with film. I'd rather be entertained than preached to by these people.

I prefer lyrics about things in life that are common to us all. Some of Dylan's songs are ok but there are scores of better singer-songwriters than him who have written better songs.

  • But thats your opinion. Some people relate to dylan's songs and some people dont. Im just saying you dont need to bash an artist because you dont like them, listen to music you relate to and let others listen to music that they relate to instead of putting it down.

  • Just to note...

Dylan actually hates political music, too... and has since the mid 60s. "The Times They Are A-Changin" (1964) was his last "political" album. After that, he actually publically detached himself from political music. Anyone who thinks Dylans music (as a whole) is political hasn't listened to him.

  • Actually, I think his best song was 'I shall be released', a non-political number. I didn't even know that he'd written it. I heard Joe Cocker sing it a hundred years ago and was blown away. You rarely hear Cocker's version anymore but it's the best to me. There's other versions including one by Chrissy Hynde on youtube(yuck). This goes to my point - Dylan wrote some good songs but other people are much better at singing them.

  • not true...

  • Not being a fan of Dylan, your point that he hasn't done political music is taken. However, that's what he started on and is most known for. As far as listening goes, I've heard what everyone else has - you're right, I've never listened to his albums. There was nothing of Dylan's I've ever heard that would motivate me to listen to any of his albums.

  • not to change the subject, but... i was just listenin to the arcangels, now the wallflowers, and imma listen to some counting crows after. these three bands really connect with somethin i'm feelin right now. ok, sorry to interupt...

  • go fuck yourself tubertime. original songwriting and music will always outclass shitty manufactured boy bands like your idols fallout boy will ever do. yes it's similar to velvet underground but he actually knew those people and was influenced by them. i am sure Reed would be proud to see his influence on a new generation. The Wallflowers are great, it's just the fact that mainstream music today sucks. The killers are alright, don't get me wrong, but Jakob grew up with The Band... enough said

  • vu's influence is nowhere to be found here; the wallflowers have taken the 3 chord progression and turned it into a soft, mushy, quintessential easy-listening mid 90's pop hit - everything that lou reed would have spat on. it's a very simple, common progression so i wouldn't charge the wallflowers with stealing it from VU (unless we charge countless other bands and songs as well), but honestly now, the VU was rock and roll. this is the wallflowers.

  • i agree

  • whats a marlena?

  • ya aya ya

  • Well,if you have to lift the lick from "Sweet Jane" you'd better write a good song around it. Well done,W's. (I'm enamoured of this song becaquse I was once enamoured of a woman who was actually three women. One of which was not averse to turning a trick just to get from A to B. Broke a third of my heart three times...)

  • some bands just play pretend and others just know better

    The wallflowers just know better

  • well said sir..

  • does anybody know what town this video was filmed in? Somewhere in Florida? Jakob definitely looks like a chip off the old block.

  • Early 90s was new age

    New Age

--noun 1. of or pertaining to a movement espousing a broad range of philosophies and practices traditionally viewed as occult, metaphysical, or paranormal.

    2. of or pertaining to an unintrusive style of music using both acoustic and electronic instruments and drawing on classical music, jazz, and rock.

    3. the New Age movement.

    [Origin: 1970--75]

  • why are people talking about the killers? besides the fact that comparing bands is ridiculous the killers dont even sound like the wallflowers at all and also, the killers suck. so...I just dont understand

  • Aw, wish I could embed this, and The Killers happen to rock really hard. FOB can piss off though.

  • Jakob is sooooo sexy

  • the killers, fall out boy and all these new age (so-called) rock bands are a bunch of wankers.

  • uhm okay...i like how you say that the wallflowers are "new age" when they came out about 15 years ago. Their first album came out in 92', so why dont you explain to me how they're "new age"? =)

  • hi there, in my comment i didn't mention that the wallflowers are new age. i said that the killers, fall out boy and other bands of the same kind are a bunch of wankers. i have nothing but respect for the wallflowers, in fact i was real glad i got to hear this song after so long. cheers : )

  • oh okay lol. i see. i misunderstood. and obviously as you can see, i agree fully with you. sorry!

    =DD

  • I have the CD "Bringing down the..."

  • My favorite song and video of the wallflowers Thank You!!

  • "The Wallflowers" are up there with "The Killers" and "Fall out boy"

  • wow please don't compare them with those shit bands

  • way better than the killers, and never even put fall out boy in the same sentence

  • the killers rock i agree not AS good as the wallflowers but fall out boy? i mean cmon

  • Very Dali-esque. Great video.

  • Had this sing on my mind while going home yesterday. Actually helped me clear my mind. Thanks for posting.

  • ouu yeahhh goo da wallflowers

  • Saudade dessa banda.

  • This is my favoirte Wallflowers video. I love how surreal it is. The Wallflowers are SUCH AN UNDERRATED BAND! Has anyone ever heard "Rebel, Sweetheart"? That's such an amazing album!

  • This is a great song! haven't heard it in ages!!! thanks for posting it!

  • Nice,nice,nice.....very nice.Dreamy eyes.
