  • why the fuck did we get black eyed peas for 2011 and not fucking rush

  • so so soooooooooooooooo awesome. tom still sounds great and mike campbell absolutely tears it up on the runnin down a dream solo.

  • HOW COULD SOMEONE DISLIKE THIS???

  • saw tp and the heartbreakers live about 7 yrs ago. they were spot on and played for 3 frickin hrs! Best concert ever!

  • The dogs bollocks!!!

  • Petty was there to give the people a real show not just collect a paycheck.

  • I'm a huge fan,and that's why right there man.

  • TALK ABOUT AN ASS KICKIN PERFORMANCE.....

  • Runnin' Down a Dream's guitar solo has to be one of THE best ever!

  • @ndotgw not quite as good as the solo in Comfortably Numb - Pink Floyd (but still awesome!

  • Totally got off on this! He's teh reason my NY Football Giants pulled the biggest upset in recent Superbowl History! Good Job Tom Petty! If my Giants go back one of these days ? (Looking good so far this season), please play the Halftime show again!

  • Yes. Perfect. GOD BLESS !

  • I must have mike's double neck!

  • Best half time shows ever... Petty, Springsteen, and McCartney!

White people actually know how to play music and sing!

  • PERFECTION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Mike Campbell is one of the greatest guitarists of all time. how can he be so underrated?

  • one of the best half time shows by far...gotta love Petty and the Heartbreakers

  • Petty is the man but this is not Petty, this is bad

  • I started listening Tom Petty in his Full Moon Fever album, (1989). Ten songs, 5 super hits, very good pop rock music. Now, I have all Tom Petty`s collection. This show was amazing. It is a shame that in my country sports games do not have these mid shows. Grettings from Peru to all Tom Petty's fans !

  • ( Best 3 super bowl performances in order) - jmho

    1. Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers

    2. The Who

    3. U2

  • @PepperDr94 the who totally sucked, i would put Paul McCartney in their placed

  • @LukePeetsMusic Personally I wish they'd get Coldplay lol

  • @PepperDr94 no, they need the Cars

  • @LukePeetsMusic I dont listen to the Cars lol but i do know theyve been around a long time so maybe theyd work. I said Cioldplay cause they could have the stadium EXPLODING because there all into that flashy lights and fireworks stuff. And Chris Martins voice is still AMAZING. (Im not comparing them to the Cars) lol I was just throwing out stuff about Coldplay XD

  • no refugee......

  • ALL HAIL TP AND THE HBs!!!

  • That half time show could use a little bit more titty floppin' out of a vest with a nipple clap on it.

  • I wish they would've played learning to fly!!!!

  • i think running down a dream is playback try search running down a dream and take the first live running down a dream it sound actually like this also the solo

  • smokin!

  • by far the best halftime show since I've been watching them (starting in the mid 80s...)

  • Should have played Learning to Fly instead of Free Fallin. Much better.

  • Hellz Yeah! They should play every halftime show every year - long live TP and the HB!!!

  • Incredible - the BEST halftime show ever!!!

  • The best halftime show in the history of the superbowl...bar none. No fluff ...just great Pettty vocals and Campbells wailing guitar...what a band!

  • @wittumy Agreed; and Mike Campbell is easily the most underrated guitar player alive. A majority of people I know young and old don't even know who he is.

  • @TheDazed123 You are so right. Campbell is very underrated. He's not gone after individual glory so he's always stayed recognized only by Petty fans. Just listening to the many different styles of tunes they've put out over decades tells you he's an extremely talented guy.

My daughter and I have seen the band several times live and they are so professional and talented there are no off nights for them. You know your money is going to a sure thing when you go see them play.

  • I´ll never forget that show

  • NIIICE

  • " the national football leauge...."

    LMAO AHAHHAHAH

  • That acoustic guitar looks just like Johnny Cash's early guitar.

  • man nice songs. but where is "hey i like being stoned"??? skrew the people that wouldnt like it there not gonna block it out its live man

  • Good choice for the set

    American Girl

Won' t Back Down A Dream

    Free Falling

    Runnin Down A Dream

  • @ninelivecat

    Won't Back Down A Dream :P

  • thank you jannet jackson for screwing up so now the super bowl now has actual music again

  • boobygate was the best thing that happened to the Halftime show for two reasons it made a lot of boys between the ages of 10 and 13 very happy, and it introduced good music back into the Super Bowl and now two names I've heard as possibilities for this year are The Who and AC/DC

  • The Who would be incredible.

  • Best comment I have read in a loooong time. Petty kicked ass.

  • @gweaterman You're totally right. Fuck Janet Jackson, and Justin Timberlake, and all their pop-star pals. Tom Petty is so far above them it's virtually inexplicable.

  • @gweaterman yet they still let Prince peform after that incident...

  • @gweaterman Yeah it was a beautiful era. Paul McCartney, The Stones, Prince, Tom Petty, Springsteen and The Who. I guess it's over now, considering the Black Eyed Peas. R.I.P good halftime shows, 2005-2010.

  • Man such a kool song.

  • beautiful song!!!!!!!!!

  • Guitar playing is just unheard of here. The solos are so perfectly placed. Campbell has such fucking amazing phrasing.

  • I agree, really under rated guitar player. Knows when to hold back, sign of a great player.I just watched the Runin down a dream documentary... Mike campbell comes across as a real nice guy.

  • yeah, almost as if tom was playing with the Heartbreakers.

  • Goes down as the greatest halftime show in SB history!

  • @BCK Agreed. The perfect football music.

  • he is so superb every time! lol how does he do it?

  • there better than the estreet band in my opinion Tom Petty never fails always puts on a show thatl put chills down ur spine and mike cambell fucking a just so superb

  • this band is superb...is it the original Heartbreakers?...they are up there with the legendary E-Street Band

  • This is the original lineup of the Heartbreakers with 2 changes. The drummer is a replacement since Stan Lynch left the group in 1994. In 1991, they added an additional guitarist/backup vocalist, Scott Thurston.

  • Tom petty was, is, and will be the shit forever...i saw him this past summer in concert and it was amazing this was an awesome halftime pro american without coming out and yelling it rock on petty

  • Awesome job Love it thanks for posting

  • Tom Petty, an american legend, icon and just a fucking great man.

  • mike campbell is awesome

  • Genius

  • whats the first song called?

  • american girl..

  • Springsteen's show was a "SELL OUT" what garbage! He was more about "theater" then he was about his great music. And speaking of music.."Glory Days" was a joke Hell he could have aleast CLOSED with "Born to RUN" instead of the crap he closed with. Bruce was a SELL OUT pure and simple. Petty's show last year was all about the MUSIC and it was great ! Bruce was about.."hey ain't I cool?"...based on his show, Bruce was not cool....more like a sell out for his new album...which is CRAP.

  • "He was more about "theater" then he was about his great music" --> your fucking opinion

    your hilarious guy, fuck up

  • The Best American Band Ever!!!

  • i loved it when the pats lost. suck it 18-%&*#!!!

    suck it bandwaggoners

  • Bandwagon. I hope ur not referring to all pats fans because i am a diehard pats fan and havn't missed a game since 1997 so suck it u pussy. When the pats win Super Bowl 44 i'll be partying

  • no. by bandwagoner i meant all the people who dont even know where the pats stadium is. and those who simply howl UNDEFEATED and think that makes them better than anyone else. it was great to see all that collapse under them.

btw, the 2007 pats where excellent. but they're not the best ever. think about it. they were in a division in with two 4-12 teams and one 1-15 team. they clinched early, so there was no pressure. and they piled the points on against garbage defense (miami).

  • are you kidding me

blink 182 would be the worst band to hear live, there studio sound is great, i love it, but thre live sound is terrible

  • It's not for 12 year olds sorry...its called rock n roll, maybe your parents used to listen to it, they don't make music like this anymore and its why the whole music industry sucks nowadays. Why do you think Paul McCartney, Tom Petty and Bruce Springsteen were called in to fix things? Cause they realized it's what people who care want to hear.

  • yeah fuck you kayo you asshole what do you want the jonas brothers to play? lets get real.

  • llkay or whatever your name is, first off, speak English please, or at the very least some coherent language.

Second, the Super Bowl isn't shown specifically for ignorant little twats like yourself with your shitty fake emo punk music. The day a band like Good Charlotte plays the Super Bowl is the day Hell freezes over.

After nipplegate with that no-talent crackwhore Janet Jackson and that faggot Justin Timberlake, you'll never see pop acts play halftime again, and we're all better off for it

  • @ajaxUD08 Unfortunately, you were wrong. We got the Black Eyed Peas this year and got a little reminder of how terrible modern music really is....

  • @CrazyDave408 correct my friend

  • Your grammar is atrocious, you know shit about music, shut the hell up.

Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers put on one hell of a show for 12 minutes and showed why they are the greatest rock band going not just today but ever. But that's one man's opinion who loves them

  • bloody ace that drummers not as good as stan though ..but who is !

  • Just a Great Performance!!

  • awesome...the only good thing about superbowl

  • how about that solo by mr mike campbell

    very easy on the ears

  • very nice!

  • The whole goddamn world is Tom Petty's fucking BITCH! YYEEEAAAHHH!!! What a BADASS!!!

  • I'm usually one who would never say things stereotypical about what "real" American music is or isn't its not one of my beliefs.... HOWEVER... if i were to say that... Tom Petty is definitely atop that list along with J.R. Cash

  • Rock 'N Roll Bomb

  • Woooooo!!!

  • suck it prince

  • kick fucken ass!!

  • Super!

  • oooooooooooooh baby! talk about kickin some ass!

  • I agree...BEST 12 MINUTES OF THE SUPERBOWL!

    Tom Petty...superperformance, superguys, supermusic-ALWAYS! =)

  • It doesn't get any better then this.I think I'll watch this just a few more times, enough said. later!!!

  • Man look at him go! Hes still rocking at the age of 58! This man is truly great :]

  • Tom is from my hometown, Gainesville Fl. Him and his band are true American rockers!

  • tom petty kicks ass

  • This part 2 starts out really well

  • huh? the first part gets nearly 200,000 views, the second gets 40,000?

why do some only watch the first half? lol

  • Their Viagra kicks in at half-time? DD

  • tom petty is the best.....period

  • I Fukin Love This Guitar Solo =] Awsome Song To

  • TOM!!!!!!!!!!!!!! COME 2 AUSTRALIA

  • mike campbell = best guiartist ever

  • Petty :]

  • first song was american girl....these guys are great...they started back when live performances were really live...they still know how to rock!!!

  • Yeah they are awesome!

  • what was the first song called?

  • Running down a dream

  • Really there were TWO #1 hits on the first album - 'American Girl' & 'Refugee'!

  • Actually, "Refugee" was on Petty's third album, "Damn the Torpedoes". Cool user name, by the way.

  • You are correct. I meant to say, "Breakdown" & "American Girl" which was featured in "The Silence of the Lambs" with Jodie Foster & Anthony Hopkins. TP&HB put out so many great tunes it's easy to get confused. I was just checking my copy of the "Rolling Stone Album Guide" and every album got at least 3 stars and had several great songs on it. I'm a big fan and should have done my research before commenting.

  • BOOBS @ 1:52

  • GREAT VID KEEP IT UP SOOTY

  • You can tell these guys are having a great time. Gave me goose bumps. Great performance for a great band. Stands the test of time.

  • i love all these comments and a special thanks to shoredElo for the headz up there, lol. yeah, tom was awesome at the superbowl and i saw him live in cincinnati on july 8th and he was awesome again as usual. for anyone who hasn't went to see him yet and gets the chance to, i urge you to go, it's just one awesome and special night with one heck of a life-changing experience.

  • Runnin' Down A Dream = Best Song

  • Cool!!!!!

  • i just went to see Petty and the Heartbreakers recently, was one of the greatest things i have ever experienced in my life.

  • wicked burning solo

  • classic rock kicks modern rocks ass.

  • it sure does, i'd rather listen to this than that" i'm a guy and i sing like a faggot music"

  • this was awesome after i saw it i went to get tickets to his concert in july

  • hooters alert at 01:53

  • nice call my friend

  • They Shouldve done Refugee, the best one of all!

  • And to think that both "Refugee" and "American Girl" were on their FIRST ALBUM! Wow! Too much, Man!

  • So sorry, I misspoke. I meant to say "American Girl" & "Breakdown" were #1 hits on their first album. My thanks to those who spotted my mistake and corrected me. And to think I sell records & vinyl on ebay at: vinylfrontierrecords. And I've been mistaken for TP which only makes it worse. I had to check with my copy of "The Rolling Stone Album Guide" to re-check my facts. It was refreshing to know so many caught my mistake!

  • I had a lot of friends at our Super Bowl party who thought this would suck, 18 year olds who had never even heard of Petty, but they came out of it a lot more impressed, and now my roommate even listens to him!

  • I play this song when I cruise on my chopper through GTA San Andreas

  • that was just great!! I've had to go back and watch it again, the man, the band are legends!!

  • whats the first song?

  • Runnin' Down a Dream

  • cool

  • Thank you SO MUCH for sharing this!!! TP&HB AWESOME as ever!!

  • Mike Campbell's guitar sounds amazing here,(as always) he has a sound all his own....great half time show...first time I actually watched the whole thing...TP and the Heartbreakers rocked.

  • This song is so American

  • this band is so american

  • Yea. This song is pure crusing along in the country in Grand Theft Auto. Pure the American Dream

  • i was at the superbowl...this was a great live perfomance...this video does not do justice to how good it sounded live

  • well duh lol

  • ...class

  • now THAT'S a damn good half time show!

  • I love Tom Petty!!!!! Awesome video! plz subscribe to aboombam

  • Rock never dies

  • Rock N roll for life!

  • i was hopin Tom petty wouldve gave a lil' Nip Slip

  • by far the best halftime in years- the rolling stones and u2 were the only others ones that put on a quality perfomance since 2000

  • i hope rock&roll comes back

  • rock and roll is here to stay. It'll never die. things were meant to be that way though i don't know why

  • That's right, man. Rock never left! Disco did drown it out for a while....

  • tht is osng out of gta san andreas olol only reason a know it

  • it is :)

  • Amazing band and nice they put on a great show in Phoenix!

  • in all honesty i don't think people give mike campbell enough credit, hes the driving force behing the guitar power. the performance was excellent

  • I think Mike Campbell is a very under rated and under appreciated guitarist. It's his solos and openeing licks that help make the band known for who they are!

  • rock on man...rock on

  • Only Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck and Carlos Santana come close to Mike Campbell. There's four great rockin' guitarists! I'm sure I missed a few others. Cat Stevens and Roger McGuin on acoustic guitars......

  • No "wardrobe malfunctions" here, just Tom freakin' Petty and the boys rockin' the house. I thought they did an excellent job. Nothin' fancy, kept the explosions and special effects to a minimum, and just nailed it! I agree, his singing seems to have improved over the years, and NO, this is not a lip-synch. People who think so have been watching crap like Britney and Ashley too long. This performance is more evidence that MTV should not be anywhere NEAR a Super Bowl halftime show ever again.

  • Yeah. MTV was good at first, but it died years ago around the time GNR broke up. - D.D.
