Baier and Herber married after their career was over and had 3 kids.They married in 1940 and divorced in 1964 only to remarry years later and divorce again.He lived to be 96 and died in 2005.She died in 2006 at age 86.I bet their kids will live a long time.

she wasn't the worlds youngest olympian ever. there was a 10 yr old greek boy named dimitrios loundras who competed on the parallel bars in mens gymnastics in the 1896 games. and there were children (boys) who served as coxswain in rowing in the 1900 games. their ages were not recorded, but they're believed to be the youngest olympians ever.

I will admire the pioneers forever, but it is a bit crazy to say that skaters today are all acrobatics and no edging. The sport has progressed, and (let's leave jumps out of it), the spirals, expression, spins, etc. are all infinitely better.

That's not to take anything away from these former brilliant athletes, but I'm tired of people saying that once comp. figures ended, no one has good edging anymore. And the spirals today (and since 90's) are the best they've ever been.

Now I feel totally different - I used to feel that way but now I appreciate subtleties in these early routines that you don't see today - edges, body line etc. - the nuances that are hard to describe - as someone has said, the jumps should add to the routine, the routine should not be to jump.

European men also wear those rather tiny revealing swim trunks.:) I also love the old clips of skaters skating outside in those cold temps.The games above were from Garmish-Parkenkirchken.I visited the old site of the G-P games a few years ago.The outdoor rink is now enclosed and used for hockey mostly.

Be sure not to confuse current style with technique and ability. Besides, where in today's figure skating world will you see such quality of edges and flowing lines. Today's skaters are so busy getting in moves, many end up looking more frantic than artistic. A beautiful spiral held long enough so that we can truly experience it is far more beautiful than a triple axel in the artistic sense!

Todays skaters are better than these, who competed in 1932 . Especcially if you'd ignore the jumps! The quality of the edges in modern figure skating improved SO FAR, only because of the flying lines and edges todays skaters can do a triple axel! I want to make a big tribute to these sportswomen, and say them a great thank you but Figure skating is developing and its something able to develope forever. !

wow k obviously skaters are better now, we have much better equipment and technology which has allowed us to become stronger. Obviously skates and blades weren't nearly as advanced as they are today so give these ladies credit!! They are pioneers of figure skating, so without them, this sport would not exist. Plus, I'm sure maaaany more moves have been invented since then.

@saskiaburgermeister Yup,that old nasty salute outside in Garmish-P.I toured G-P a few years ago.The open air rink is now an enclosed hockey rink.Hitler ordered the two separate towns of G and P to merge for the '32 games.Of course everone in that film are dead and gone now.Max Bier lived to be a very old man.

The free skating was very simple, I could have won if I had competed back then. But those figures at 2:07 are just incredible!
