Correction : in the final tour of Shea Stadium , Pete was called "The Elder Statesman of R-R" and he was 37 years old . I had to go back and look it up !
I'm really starting to miss Pete ! He's getting on in years now and it's fact that he's nearly deaf because of all the loud playing. He is one of rock's prolific singer/songwriter's and I really love how he excelled in his solo period ! Such talent and I will forever keep him close in my heart for as long as I live ! Love you Pete and thanks for making a huge contribution to Rock - N - Roll ! I will always Save you for later ! Love mylles23
@mylles23 I know how you feel ! I wish I could freeze time sometimes. Pete pioneered R-R and he was in his early twenties. He has given a lot of sacrifices for his craft ! I remember seeing an interview with Pete at Shea Stadium at the first farewell tour (Circa 1983) and the interviewer refered Pete as "The grandfather of R-R". For christ's sake ,he was only 34 years old. But I fully understood the accomplishments he and the Who had achieved up to that point. He will definitely will be missed !
This is definitely an incredible version by Pete ! Say Happy Birthday to Pete today , he turned 66 years young ! It's ashame that there is no performer what so ever today who can match the incredible talent of Pete !
THIS SONG IS THE BESTt!!! I had the great fortune to be in "THE BEAT" concert crowd so many years ago in California... another fabulous memory!!! It doesn't matter who performs this song... it totally rocks!!! Thanks for posting it!!! : )
just come from the Dave Wakeling video in which Pete Townshend calls up to ask about the guitar tuning. beautiful song. Not heard this version before. Townshend's great with all the add lib stuff.
The only "Pete Townshend Song" that he didn't write - of which I know. Credit to Wakeling. The angst, indecision, deep personal touch and bittersweetness does The Bard, Hamlet and PDBT - and RW - proud -

rush622112, Thanks for having a neutral stand! I also like both versions. I love how Pete townshend adlibs in this version. He does such a great due respect for the Beat. I,m definitel going to check out that interview with Dave Wakeling
Hey, everytime I've heard Pete do this song in concert, he always credits Dave Wakeling and the beat. Of course I like THE BEAT because they wrote it! But with all due respect I am open to song variations.Keeps things from getting boring! Has anyone seen the interview with Dave Wakeling when he explains how Pete called him up and asked permission to do this song and how Pete couldn't figure out how exactly the chords went.Dave was honoered that Pete "Ripped his song off" Thanks Remo for the post
@Mojorizzon84 Make sure you soap up and please don't drop the soap or your exit point is going to be violated ! because I'm the guy soaping up next to you love !! You sick wanka !!
Thank you soooooooooo Much for posting this. I have been searching forever to the point I thought I had imagined hearing this on the radio, 15 years ago(?)!

yea, Dave admitted that he kind of messed up his tuning. But it sounded GREAT! So he just stuck with it. It was accidental magic

Thanks for the post. I love this song - reminds of of TWIST AND SHOUT, in that there's never been a bad version.

Not bad, but I like both the original (English Best) and Harvey Danger's remake better. It's hard to screw up such a brilliant song.
