It is however worth a mention that it was actually illegal to own gold in the US when this was made (1936). You were supposed to not feel the need to own gold and to *trust* that the US government would uphold the gold standard into the indefinite future.... at 35 dollars an ounce. Ha ha ha ha.

It was literally a rule at the time-the Hays Office established that all entertainment had to appeal equaly to everyone. The reason these three Van Beuren shorts flopped is because they took a unique character like Felix and turned him into a bland funny animal. And i can vouch for that-pick up a copy of the book "Nine Lives to Live: Felix" and you'll see the original, unique Felix in his prime.
