I think it was longer ago than that. I'm 35 and I remember hearing it on my Dad's 8 track when I was about 3, which would have been in '77. Good tune.
I think youre right. I heard it on KFAT, a radio station that stopped broadcasting circa 1980, so 1977 would be more like it. Good memory for a kid of 3.
yep, this was on an 8 track which had songs from Merle and songs from Loretta

I'm pretty sure this song is from 1966 or 67. Might be of his Swinging Doors/The Bottle Let Me Down. I know it's from that era.
