  • 一度も、姿を現さなない、トラックドライバーの心情を、そのトラックのエキゾーストが物がったていますね。

    スピルバーグ監督は、細かいところにも、目配りしています。

  • It's nice to see all those SCE assets on the roadside..

  • WTF is up with David Mann? He should have had V8 in his car and given that psycho trucker the finger

  • Its funny this happened to me about 2 months ago. I was coming from orlando fl to jacksonville fl . On 95 north Out of nowhere This lime green 18 wheeler came like inches away from my car , i couldn't believe it !

He couldn't catch me i was driving a crown vic police car , he followed me for 10 miles

  • They need to remake this with a CGI truck, just to fuck it all up.

  • wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I would be just as nervous as that guy. Thats so creepy!!! I would be speeding like I never sped before.

  • 0:25 - Very very mad... amazing shot. And the sound. A classic!

  • Weaver shoulda' been driving a TOYOTA instead of that orange hunk of junk..

  • @watcherman65 Yup, that runaway acceleration would have come in very handy!

  • Spielberg says that the rig really could only go like 25mph but the used special effects to make it appear to be bookin'. Scares the living daylights outta you. I first saw this when I was 11, I left the TV on when I was doing homework and didnt know what the movie was @ first but found myself hooked 5 min into it then my dad came into the room and told me it was a really good movie and we watched it with my brother. (They were good at not spoiling it for me since they saw it B4!)

  • wow usa built some horrible cars back then, must have been a bitch for the stunt driver the wheel base is tiny.

  • wow, that car is terrible, bad acceleration, brakes, and handeling...

  • @MrEricenriquez it obviously wasnt built to race. It was built to be a reliable family car, not to go 100 mph

  • @Critic764 You are right; the car is is a 1971 Plymouth Valiant, and like you say, it's a family car. Now if Dennis Weaver had been driving a 1971 Plymouth 'CUDA...

  • Also, ALL rearwheel drive cars brake like that on gravel at that speed.

  • @MrEricenriquez - well it was 1971. ;)

  • What a lousy waitress, she throws the silverware and menu at him and doesn't give him any time to think about what he wants just rushes him!! Hello!? Lady you need to go back to waitressing school. Also, you are also supposed to offer them something besides water! Furthermore, you don't walk away when they are talking to you, you dumb brod. Oh, and never, ever, serve them a sandwich on a dry piece of bread!! How the hell would you like to bite into that crap??!

  • that truck is creepy

  • How come when he knocked the fence down there wasn't a single mark or dent on his car?

  • Question: He already knew he missed the meeting so where was he headed?? Where was he going?

  • @blanchefful away from the truck....

  • @Critic764 LOL good answer! That makes sense.

  • Carey Loftin was an OUTSTANDING driver.....

  • @Genners111 Yep! Hard to believe he was like 60 or near there when he did this film.

  • @tall32guy yessir -- 57 to be exact!

  • i dont think he could catch up with bandit

  • Ohhh,,, this truck was fucking scary ;o

  • Only a true truck driver could drive a rig like that i used to drive trucks i drove an international an the ingnorance of drivers will live on

  • lol at 4:50 can you say fast forward?

  • whats with the insane speeds?

  • @Sou4oo do you ant to watch a movie with a chase at 30 mph?

  • Who's going to pay for the busted fence?

  • @isuckaman the truck :)

  • @isuckaman Hears the fence break outside and goes a runnin* "My fence, my eemoos, noooo!" As the birds run away...* Ahhhhh! My fence......

  • @isuckaman Yeah really, that's what I said.

  • Respond to this video... Peterbilts rejected truck that failed Quality Assurance and was knicked from the Knackers yard

  • He`s Gonna kick his bosses ass for not giving him a Ferrari as hes a Sales Executive with built in flame throwers and automatic machine guns built in. okay at least a Ford Mustang super charger

  • @annoyed1965 LOL

  • I think scenes like at 4:50 where the truck seems to speed up at very sudden rates are rather frightening! They used those scenes quite a few times in the movie and I wonder did they used a camera trick for those scenes or could that old truck can really accelerate like that??

  • @ipodchik semi's have oodles and oodles of torque, but they can't accelerate like that. the Valiant was probably going very slow.

  • The truck man is a jerk!

  • well im don´t drove a argo i drove a f-350 dually crew cab diesel and that truck for sure can made you feel are you driving a big f****ng rig like that jajajaLOL

  • i've drove a semi for years and after a while peoples stupidity and ingnorance about trucks and truck drivers starts to wear on you .you can only have some little ford focus try to punk you so many times .but i only expect fellow drivers to understand .

  • that truck has like mini jet engines .. something

  • i don´t knw but know i see how a volkswagen bettle feel when im going after him with my f-350 crew cab dually jajaja

  • Good grief! How did that truck get up to that kind of speeds?

  • i was always stoned and this was on tbs or w.e late at night back in 05 i dont know if it shows much anymore but i liked it since not the best its alright

  • If I were him I would be pissed by now when he hits my car

  • I remember watching this movie as a kid and I was GLUED to the tv screen! Old school stuff but fascinating. Since the Hollywood moviemakers are remaking all of these old films these days, why not remake this classic? I would love to see it redone for theaters this time!

  • if tht was me driving the valiant (think i spelled it wrong) id be hauling ass after i passed him the 3rd time id have the speedometer pegged at wat ever the top speed of tht slant 6

  • Shut up. Ya'll don't no shit. Wheels Of Terror will put this movie to shame. Now what? Biotch!

  • That peterbilt is a beauty probably will get dusted by today's trucks but that I love that front killer grill for some reason and the colour adds character to the beast.

  • @MrFuhrer2009 Well like I alread said, the trucks fast for its time. The driver would try to make sure his rig is up to speed with the current cars. If it was modern times hed have a modern truck.

  • @Promosthis I don't have a mom.

  • @Promosthis Faggot

  • Briliant movie! I love it

  • That movie scares the crap out of me and yet, I can't stop watching. The truck driver had some mad skills. Some of that stuff wouldn't b e easy to do in one of today's modern trucks. Had to be tough as hell to do in a late '40's Pete.

  • Good ol song, that Phantom 309, bring a tear to the eye towards the end.

  • i think he shit his pants, LOL

  • That truck's psychotic!

  • poor little orange car :)

  • I learnt to drive in a '69 Valiant. We got 5 adults and 8 kids in it on a beach trip one day.I had to sit under the front passenger dashboard area. That car was a tank,I wish we still had it. Doing reverse parking in it was really hard for some reason.

  • one time i was on the road and a dum ass truck almost killed me

  • @Colecool25 Did you keep passing him? lol! J/K!

  • Love that wide tracking shot @ 1:53

    excellent camerawork

  • bice ovaj kamion ima gewinde ovjes, pa zbog toga drzi krivine...hehehehe

    Ima motor V6 osmak

  • bice ovaj kamion ima gewinde ovjes, pa zbog toga drzi krivine...hehehehe

  • Folks, this is Hollywood. In real life that slant 6 would dust that truck. Those trucks back then didn't make nearly the HP and torque of today's rigs. that sedan could do over 100MPH stock by the way, the truck would struggle with 75MPH. Mopar pickups actually used that "car" motor 225 slant 6. Don't forget the early genius of Spielberg showing us a low budget thriller that simply worked. I'm 34 now and I remember seeing this with my family when I was oh, around 8-9, that truck scared me then

  • gluplji film nikad nisam gledao

  • oooh why dont u guys shut the fuck up and watch the movie and spare us from your mechanical turkey babel!

  • Comment removed

  • I bet a tow truck was faster than that car. with a tow truck the truck driver would eat his smoke.

  • the truck driver sucks at driving

  • @Lax14IsCool, well, driving trucks it's not that easy... so shut up and try yourself

  • @Lucap1000 I drive trucks and that guy just sucks.

  • @Lax14IsCool, but in this part of the film it's an almost straight road, there's no need to drive like god

  • if that happen to me at this present day i bet he couldnt catch a buggati

  • 65... 75... 85... 95...

  • Alright, I would do the same thing he was doing exept go faster then I would slow down in the area he was at and do a skid twisting myself in the other derection and do 105 mph. Then I would like to go back to L.A and then call the police and game over for the truck driver.

  • I'd start freaking out by this point. ...can trucks that big go that fast?

  • Where's a highway patrol when you need one?

  • love the railroad track bumper!

  • Thats why EVOs are made, to run away from tankers :)

  • was the truck modded in any way? cause I read somewhere it had only 272 hp and a top speed of 74.. LOL even the feeble Valiant could easily outrun it. Nonetheless this film is awesome. I mean cmon 1971 people !!!

  • @XFile342 They just made it look like it could travel high speeds with trick camera angles and lens effects. In reality these scenes were difficult to film because the truck was actually pretty slow.

  • he's making a VALIANT effort to get away...

  • this would be a nightmare....!!!!!

but hahaha the cheesy music in the car makes this funny

  • youd think maybe there would be police out there..>>

  • THE TRUCK IS CRAZY BANDE DE MOULE

  • I love American films where the speed goes up to 60 or 70 and the driver can barely stay on the road. In England we drive at 80 or 90 just on a normal day to go to work :)

You have it right though, your roads are more relaxing than our death traps

  • it did 95 f-in mph (153 km/h o.0)

  • PARKED LIKE A ROCK STAR @5:39. LOL!

    "YOU ALRIGHT MISTER?!!!"

  • Anyone think they'll remake this movie?

  • @wolfmyth007 hope so :D

  • @wolfmyth007 i hope not, this one is classic (:

    but lets see

  • @wolfmyth007

Problem is it wouldn't sell, in order for a movie to be popular it has to have chick flick elements. I.E. hot girl who plays the cliche object of desire for the main characeter, cheesy action scenes, cursing, etc.

  • @Ravenous11yt

    perhaps, but this came first

  • This could easily be mistaken for a documentary about driving on I-10 through west Texas.

  • @sindlibtsbles couldnt agree more about car driving habits out there.

  • sure silly the guy cant control his car at 60 miles an hour there been times on open road i done 100+ where back then i guess 60 miles an hour was considered fast. LOL.

  • @TheCashistrash

Oh really? Going 100mph on a 4 lane freeway straight ahead isn't nearly as difficult as going 70mph on a narrow country road with twists and turns. Try driving there at 100mph and you'll fly out the first corner. Now, try driving those speeds in some old Plymouth Valiant, which hardly could corner well even at the time.

Besides David Mann is a pencil pusher not some racecar driver, he isn't used to be driving these speeds.

You drive 100mph+ on these roads even today. Try.

  • @McLarenMercedes Well i done some amateur racing. So ya you probably right about him being a pencil pusher he got scared. I tend to race all terrain vehicles like the Subura WRX turbo charged. The key about racing those small country roads is quick deceleration and acceleration and drift the back tires just a bit. Hey but you would be suprised what that red car in the movie can do if you give it about 2 inch drop and give it some sticky tires. those cars got plenty horses

  • @TheCashistrash

yuu sad sad zip! you cant even tell what a plymouth valiant when you see one i hope you urabus gets ran off the road by a peterbuilt!

  • @TheCashistrash

Horsepower won't make a car corner better. That old Plymouth Valiant wasn't designed for high speed cornering. No sticky tires could ever change that. Leaf springs and a chassis designed for comfort, results in a car unsuited for driving on twisty roads.

Drifting is avoided whenever possible in racing, it looks spectacular but it not the optimum way to drive through corners. Even in the WRC the drivers that control the car at the absolute limit on gravel roads usually last.

  • lol is this guy retarded or something... he should have turned around and gone home long ago

  • @annoyed1965

I love this comment,so true,so true, sure hope I never meet up with either of them.Madame Dementia

  • The multiple license plates is what freaked me out

  • @Dimentio152 -in that day trucks had to be licensed in many states to drive through them, though in this case Stephen intended them to be prizes from cars the truck defeated.

  • @Dimentio152 that was back before they had I.F.T.A stickers they would have to tag the truck in every state they drove in.

  • get a load of that nasty ol' thing, what is that, the vehicle choice for anus holes and bloody.... cerial killers???

  • ..the car is DAMN low__

  • Strats from this all. Sweats for long till truck crushed. Great Movie.

  • The Cafe Scene is Missing!!!

  • @THX1205

Also, the soundtrack has been replaced with unoriginal new dubbed sound effects.

  • The cafe scene, one of the best in the entire movie is missing. Why?

  • i wanne hear Steven Spielberg talk about this movie....

    gues it wil never happen.

  • If you rent or buy the DVD there is an interview with Steven Spielberg where he talks about the film.

  • that truck is DAMN fast

  • @ledrocker555 ive seen the engine, the pistons and camshaft parts are huge!

  • @ledrocker555 might be fucked lookin but under the skin lays a beast

  • @ledrocker555 Yeah, I wonder if the actual truck had a supercharger, which wasn't uncommon in semi-trucks in those days.

  • Comment removed

  • @ledrocker555 3 true, but then again, this truck has never come up against PHANTOM 309.that old mack can put them all to shame, there is not a driver,or a rig, running any line, that has seen nothing but tail lights from Phantom 309.

  • @SkyAngel1959 know i see how i looks when im going behind a Vw bettle or any chevy spark jajajajaja im the evil on 6 wheels im dieselinside

  • @dieselinside69 6 wheels what are you driving an Argo?

  • @SkyAngel1959 Dude you cant compare the truck to modern trucks. For its time in the early 70s 100 miles an hour was very fast for a big diesel like that. You gotta realise the guy probably has the fastest truck you could drive back then(in the movie). Basically if that guy were alive today killing people on the highway he'd obviously have a faster truck. A truck that was fast by todays standards.

  • @SkyAngel1959 PHANTOM 309. is a story of truck driver who sacrificed his life so other truckers with illegal cargo can bypass the law and no it wasn't fast enough that's how it got destroyed and because a Phantom 309. (ghost truck) in later tales picked up a man in the rain. Like the Black dog tales it's mainly a story.

  • @SkyAngel1959 Love that song.

  • @ledrocker555 mine's faster -_-

  • @ledrocker555 one ask ! these cars have a steeringpump to help you sterring !!?? i would like to have a truck like these to terrorize my mother in law jajaja

  • It made me jump when it switched to the tire shot of the tanker

  • On 0:58 those 99,999 odometers used to make people look to 50,000(km or miles) as such an average age, while currently people go beyond 200,000 without care much about. I don't know, I liked the 99,999 thing... LOL

Other thing is the speed ( at 2:50 ). Currently you can go much beyond 100 mph without the feeling you're losing it. At those times, around 60/80 it seemed you were going to fly. I think that used to make people respect more the speed than nowadays.

  • Ok if he was going 70 to 90 mph, I can tell you right now it would take him less time that this to get to Chucks Cafe which according to that sign was 7 miles away.

  • hayastan5 truck drivers or trucking companies register their vehicles in many different states. They travel all throughout the United States so they have "apportioned" or "omnibus" license plates. Evey state here has their own license plates, insurance requirements and laws concerning vehicle operation and ownership. Hope this helps.

  • Love that section of railroad track made into a front bumper. Maybe he hits lots of deer.

  • mean o drift

  • That car has only an AM radio. AM car radios do not work while driving through tunnels as shown in the first part of the movie.

  • Was that "Truckin'" by the Grateful Dead he had on his radio?!!

That would be way cool of Spielberg.

  • The original '56 or the '60 that now exists?

Several stories written at the time mentioned that the '56 truck seen through most of the movie was worn out and they had to use creative camera work to compensate for it's lack of speed. The reason the '60 even exists was because the first truck was in such poor condition and they HAD to get the movie shot in a certain amount of time, so they built a back-up.

  • is there one american who can explain me why this truck has several number plates ?

  • when it travels across state lines, it has a linsence plate for the state, so the ones on the truck are the states this trucks vists a lot on its route

  • @hayastan5:

    1. Either for use in different states, he can't be bothered to change them so he leaves them on.

    2. He's keeping them a mementoes from the different times he's registered the truck.

    3. He is a complete wacko.

  • Also could be all states he allready killed other people.

  • @hayastan5

    Previous victims.

  • @hayastan5 truck's previous victims...

  • 0.25, 2.03, 2.23 and 4.48 to 4.56 YIKES!

  • Does anyone else totally crack up laughing during this movie? The car skidding out, Dennis Weaver's wussy comments, like not being the boss in his own home. He deserves to get his ass kicked.

  • @Novembersandalwood The driver could have picked up on that and that could have been one of the reasons he targeted him....

  • There was a lot of creative camera work involved to make it appear the truck was moving at high rates of speed, such as filming it passing in front of a cliff-type background. In reality, the truck would only go about 55mph on flat ground...Dennis Weaver could have easily shown him taillights. They even built a pare truck because they were not sure this one would make it through the entire filming schedule in running condition.

  • and would need several miles to reach 55 mph...

this movie is thrilling but not realistic

  • the truck has gone 72 MPH

  • I mean that directly involved an inantimate object. It seemed like the truck had a will of it's own.

  • I saw this in 1971 when it was shown on tv. We'd never seen anything like it. It may have been the first psychological thriller that involved an inantimate object instead of people.

  • The SCARIEST peterbilt ever made. The needle nose.

  • No joke!

It could practically eat Dennis Weavers car if it had a mouth! Its a precursor to Jaws...I bet Stephen Spielberg was totally channeling this movie when he got around to Jaws.

  • carey loftin was the man

  • Why did he have to slow down? If I race away from someone that is following me, I would not stop at a restaurant nor slow down. Which reminds me of Dumb and Dumber movie.

  • No, the dumb part was that the moron didn't just turn around and go home. He already said he wouldn't make the meeting, so why keep going? Anyhow is that fucking account worth his life?

  • cause the trucker might have followed him home.

  • Good point

  • Road rage before it became a household word! LOL

  • lol why is he fretting so much at 1:47, the truck is nowhere near him. mr manns fretting antics crack me up lol

  • If a truck that big was running me down, at about 80 mph, whilst driving down winding roads, I'd be scared shitless too.

  • This kind of thing doesn't happen in real life so you got nothing to worry about. You're more likely to be chased by a pissed off ex lover in an SUV.

  • Ah! But remember to read on the mirror: Objects in the mirror are closer than they appear!

  • LOL! he's gettin' a little paranoid...

  • hehe this film is just a fantastic classic! I love the way it points to the speedo now and then to show how amazingly fast they are going.. 80 lol. I cruise on motorways and dont even realise im doing 80 half the time. Back the i suppose 80 was pedal the metal! lol

  • i couldnt find the part 3...

  • This sort of thing might have made a good plot development for a The Fast And The Furious film.

  • No way in Hell is it legal for a semi-truck to go that fast.
