I'm no soldier but i've done alot of hunting since i was a kid,44 mag for big aussie feral boars,30.06,270,308 etc on buffs,camels crocs and i was thinking that this round he's using seems a bit small for this kind of distance,800 + yards is a long shot in anyones book. Why is this the prefered round for this type of work?

@SouthernCross33 It's not... he was the only one in that situation with a DMR type rifle... 800 yards was the very maximum range and they were using Mk. 262 77 grain bullets.

@SouthernCross33 7.62x51mm its the workhorse of all NATO sanctioned Battle rifle's, Designated Marksman rifles and Sniper rifles.. it does good.. .338 Lapua does better : )

@megasniper1111 It is a 5.56. For two reasons. 1. Note the body style of the rifle. 2.The mag is curved for a 5.56 round, and the SR25 and SASS has a striaght mag to have more space for the bigger round(7.62)

@MrZM4N I am going from memory here, but I believe he said he was using a 20' Bushmaster upper with a 1:7 twist barrel, an A.R.M.S. rail system with Blackhills ammunition 75gr match 5.56 ammo. Blackwater gave all of their operators that were at Najaf commemorative AR-15 rifles and Travis (the guy in the video) replicated the rifle he used in combat.
