  • @cbertram11 indeed it can, the intro, as Rhett said, was in the clean channel, so it's got a lot of gain.

  • could the SE amp cover metal tones??

  • @cbertram11 if the dirty channel at half gain sounds like modded jcm800 at 75% gain, do the math(this is an awesome amp!)

  • JUSTIN BIEBER?????

  • Sounds like a Foo's song 1:40

  • does any body know the tuning for the sick metal/ rock riffs he was playing in the beginning/

  • @josimonkeyman Hey man, the intro stuff was just dropped D, and the really death metally stuff was just standard haha

  • Might Rhett be any blood relation to Paul?

  • Hey folks, I just wanted to let you know there is a new SE20 video up now. I think you will find a variety of much more palatable and complex tones in this new video, and hopefully get a better feel of what the SE20 can do. I hope you like what you hear. If you do, please visit your local PRS dealer and play one (which is really the only way anyone should ever experience an amplifier if they want to formulate an educated opinion on one).

  • @RhettHours Rhett how you been man? Been a while since Intro Recording classes at Clemson!

  • @mplyler1 Mitchell! I've been great buddy, I hope you're doing well too.

  • @RhettHours I been good man...finishing in December...are you in Maryland full-time now or working up there off and on?

  • The amount of ppl who now make amps in unbelievable, and every time a new line of amps comes out, the same old claims are made, the same BS emperors new clothes crap is trotted out. All I can say is that there must be some profit in making expensive valves amps cuz everyone is at it, it's like boutique effects, some of the cheaper valves amps cost less than a boutique overdrive pedal. If you look on stage, most pro bands still use Marshall, and that's what counts, PRS do make great guitars thou.

  • Wow, I just found my next tube amp! Thanks for the video!

  • I saw Paul do a little demo with Mike Ault and Kirby Kelley in Dallas to show off his new amps and some new pickups two years ago. It is one sweet sounding amp.

  • Mud!

  • This guy is not Paul Smith's son. He was born in a small town a few miles away from Clemson University in South Carolina. He comes from a family of car dealers. I've seen him play, in person, and he's not showing half of what he can do. Wonder why no one has picked this kid up yet? He can play with the best!!! As you can see, I'm a fan!

  • @MrHokesh

A tad creepy that you know this.

  • Rhett smith playing a paul reed smith through a paul reed smith.... nice.

  • I love this. This amp blows any orange out of the water.

  • Not tight enough for metal. Too bad.

  • @Metallimeister Many amplifiers that are known to have very high gain, metal tones, are not tight enough on their own. For example, the Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier is not tight on it's own, but when you put a Tube Screamer or an OD-808 in front of it, the pedal cuts out some of the low end and boosts the mids and high's, effectively making the amp sound tighter and more "metal ready". Do the same with this amp and you'll be set when it comes to metal.

  • @rjg7000 Hmm, I suppose you do have a point. This is why I prefer the Mesa Mark series; The EQ helps tighten/shape the tone to where it needs to be.

  • this this paul smith's son?

  • @anyday82 I doubt it. He has a son named William, watch the gourmet guitar interviews.

  • hi, i'm from italy, where can i buy this amp?

  • Mic issues,i hope

  • at first i was like Rhett who? and then i was just :O

  • @mami3790

i did the same thing with davy knowles

  • What are you playing at 1:46 its awesome!

  • I like what I'm hearing so far, but it seems weird to demo the gain with everything set to 1 o'clock without then going on to show what it's capable of when you actually do adjust the knobs. The knobs were adjusted for the clean demo and it sounded fantastic, so I think failing to do that for the gain channel was a bit of a missed opportunity. At any rate, I'll be keeping an eye out for further demos.

  • I didn't know Ian from Smosh played guitar!

  • Nice demo but who is "friend" Rhett Smith ? How about posting a bio?

  • Turn it off! it is an offense to the ear.

  • Actually it sounds kind of like a blender full of gravel. PRS should stick to guitars and leave amp building to Marshall, Engl, Diezel, Krank, and a few others.

  • @johnsoncm65 Agreed it don't sound too good, could be the ways it been recorded thou to be fair, when he plays the six string chords, far from it sounding defined as he say it sounds really muddy and messed up, it actually sounds as thou the guitar is out of tune.

  • @prsguitars when will you be putting new demos???... I'm a big fan of PRS but that demo sound fizzy, it's like you had a really bad fuzz pedal engaged the whole time, both the 'clean' and 'lead' channel.

  • @niahi +1 I couldn't agree more. Is this the best demo they could produce? Apart from the short clean demo at the end it sounds horrible! Based on this demo, I wouldn't buy this amp. C'mon PRS WTF?

  • Yeah not touching the EQ is a bad idea. Haha the gain need to be rolled off a tad, and the highs could be cut a little. In the video it sounded very harsh. And I don't think that's really the clean channel, it's probably just a one channel amp on the high gain setting and he rolled off his volume to clean up the sound.

  • I think this thing sounds bad ass, can't wait to hear the 30 and 50... and see what the prices are gonna be

  • sorry man... but the first few seconds kind of ruins it. it sounds terrible. it sounds really rumbly and splatty...

  • Saying "I didn't even touch the EQ" could be bragging, if it didn't sound like it needed to be EQ'ed better. I highly await new and better demos though.

  • REMEMBER THIS ARE SE amps, just like SE guitars don't sound like USA made PRS´s this amps cant be sounding as good as the USA made models.

I liked the sounds, with the proper EQ settings they will sound smoking!

  • @nicolasrivera with these going at 900 for just the 20w head this is not a good price. You can get really nice used amps that are MIA or made in the UK for that price. For 900 for the head alone I would expect more.

  • @Chad11491 I don't know that they'll be that much, if you're referring to the price on Elderly's site, I've heard rumors that the price will be much lower when they actually come out. They only have about $100 off list at Elderly so I would guess more like somewhere around $700, which is a pretty competitive price for an amp with those features.

  • @Chad11491

Yes, you can can get a great JetCity amp for less then that.

  • @nicolasrivera That still isn't an excuse for poor construction, the basic components once wired together cant be that different tonally.

  • @djworrall Exactly what amp in here has poor construction?

  • isn't this paula son?.... looks awfully familiar.........

  • Try to realize that the distorted clean channel is mostly from the guitar, he is playing an Mark Tremonti PRS in the beginning. Those come with the most aggressive passive pickups I have heard. When Paul demo'd the Mike Mushok SE for Guitar World, he mentioned that the pickups were "a bit hot" and would distort the sound on a clean channel. The Tremonti pickups are even hotter, so expect some distortion, even from a clean channel. I actually love the how the amp sounds.

  • @gonzoe123 TRY TO REALIZE HE WAS SHOWING THE CLEAN CHANNEL CAN BE CRUNCHY the amp has a wide gain range.

I own amps that dont break up as much even with a Dimarzio X2-N or EMG 81 so its thwe amp not just a hot pickup

  • @bornburied I agree with you and retract my previous statement. The pickups my be "hot" but they can sound clean if you want them to. The amp can be tuned the same way, dirty if you want it to be. I will be keeping an eye on these amps.

  • When he mentioned it was the clean channel, it sounded pretty dirty/fuzzy and I'm listening to this demo on Bose Speakers . I didn't hear anything clean sounding .

  • Can't tell if it's bad or if its just EQ'd like ass. Everything's at 1 o'clock when he's using the SC, giving it way too much lower mids and making it flub out.

  • SOUNDS LIKE SHIT

  • Sounds like shit.

  • i think a lot of people seem to be missing the point here. i think what they were going for with that beginning part is that the amp has two independently voiced channels that can be set up as you wish. the clean can be really dirty, and vice versa. sure its done a little backwards though, but watch the whole video. i've heard this amp do smooth overdrive as well, but they made this video for a different audience and because everyone was complaining about wanting a higher gain amp online.

  • @blastDERVbeat Finally somebody that really understood the demo!!!

  • @blastDERVbeat what audience? if older--it failed --if younger it failed. It's done backwards and the narrative is anti intuitive.

Playing the amp for 5 seconds with a tone that isn't particualrly coherent-then saying "Look I didnt even touch the knobs" verges on the autistic.

This isnt complicated; A reputable brand submitted a product video that would leave an amatuer shaking thier heads.

  • @blastDERVbeat BTW what is "higher gain amp online" and who was complaining? The other PRS amps didnt lack gain. Nobody missed anything, it was poorly produced .

  • I hate to pile on, but it really is not a very impressive amp if I have to depend on this video to make a decision. The video demonstrates anything but defined chordal notes and the intro sounds like the first $20 distortion pedal I ever bought, not like a clean channel. I don't get it, I guess. I am a big PRS fan, but while your playing is nice Rhett, the tone is not....in the ears of the beholder I guess.

  • @duhbearz EXACTLY why this was so hard to comprehend?

no no no, you are a PRS hater ya thats it (sarcasm)

    Definately NOT impressive.

  • @bornburied your spelling is DEFINITELY* not impressive

  • @englishshuler525 reelee? well it's not like I'm composing a dissertation........

  • If I'm listening to the clean channel (at the start of the video), wouldn't I want to hear clean? Not fizzy overdrive? ... I love PRS products, but I'm not impressed by the "clean" of this amp!

  • i have a hunch that this guy is Paul's kid...if u do, he's the luckiest kid in the world.

  • I love PRS guitars, but at that price I'll take a my mesa boogie express.

  • If they price these in the same ratio to the pro line amps as the SE guitars are in ratio to the American line of guitars this will be a game changer.

  • Comment removed

  • This is definitely of interest, I'm waiting for a screaming blues lick that makes the hair on my arms stand up. I'd prefer a singing, sustaining, SMOOTH overdrive tone with ALOT of feeling, that would impress me.

  • More imported guitar gear? Really? In THIS economy? God, you can get premium gear from starving people out there for pennies on the dollar right now. Very few gainfully employed musicians out there. The boutique glut was great until Obamanomics forced people to liquidate their credit card funded Bogners to pay their mortgage. If you have cashflow, and most don't, spend it on something that will at least hold SOME value. Good luck everyone, spend wisely. No offense to PRS intended.

  • What are the prices going to be like for these?

  • @shango02005 $995 for combo's and $1,500+ for head/cab

  • So is this amp supposed to be exclusively a shredder's amp?

  • @catboyzee definitely not! if you'd like, subscribe to our channel...we'll be uploading a bunch of different videos that will cover different styles of playing, as well as some more in depth walk throughs of all the new PRS SE amplifiers.

  • What did he say "Believe it or not this is the clean channel????" Don't know about you guyys.... but that's as far as I got...cause the clean sound pretty nasty

  • @crosseyedwillie if you go further into the video he says its VERY touch responsive and demos that attribute (and if you look closely his bridge pickup is open coil which is something commonly done to very hot pickups so the dirty bite is partly the guitars fault too) ... also he uses the clean channel again with a different guitar and it sounds great

  • @crosseyedwillie

I agree. The comment followed by the tone were a big disappointment. I like crunch and I love spanky cleans. I play clean about 70% of the time.

I'm glad that I stuck with the video up to 3:50. Much better. I would have edited that opening comment.

I've owned two SE guitars and I thought they were very nice. Tuning is a good thing.

  • Wow! Tune the damn guitar! All of them. What can I say... I'm disappointed... Sorry... Bash me all you want. Raspy, Out of tune... Crappy nonsense... Yuck!

  • Sounded too Fizzy, I wish they make a better demo

  • My VHT has much more clarity than that-it set the standard over 15 years ago

  • @bornburied Excuse me, but why are you having a one-sided argument with me? Over the course of 3 hours, you called me "a tone-deaf motherfucker" for my OPINION, and then proceeded to tell myself and everyone on here about amazing your studio monitor set-up when I didn't reply. You've done nothing but get on here and talk shit to everyone. You're 43, with no videos of your own playing, talking shit with only your OPINION to back it up. Got something to prove to everyone? Y u mad bro?

  • @blastDERVbeat Your excused..... Obviously you're mad bro -tissue for your issue?

  • @bornburied Alright dude. I understand. I really do. Your just a prs troll and it is your mission/life goal to be a professional doucher. Your a 43 year old male with a "sweet VHT" who's job is to troll troll troll on every video that shows a talented guitar player playing a fantastic amp. I'm sorry your life blows enough to where you get joy in saying sweeeet lines like "tissue for your issue?" Now go back upstairs your mother is calling. The meat loaf is ready.

  • @blastDERVbeat Actually my Dr Z Z-28 is much sweeter. Ahhhh the old "guy's gotta be a loser in his parents basement" retort. I see being tonedeaf is not your only short coming.

  • What's the source of the info on using the 12ax7's in preamp? I'm asking because I saw nothing in print so far, thx.

  • @zombieheadhunter Just google PRS SE amplifier : )

  • @zombieheadhunter the amps are all tube. The clean and lead channel gain stages are driven by 12AX7 preamp tubes. Loop, verb, and phase inverter utilize 12AT7s.

  • for some reason ive been kind of unimpressed by prs amps...I wonder why

  • Hmm...looks like my next amp has been made,

  • what a crappy clean channel.... sorry prs

  • @mattsavedbygracengai umm its best thing about the amp so far click ---> 3:44

  • @mattsavedbygracengai crappy clean? did you even watch the entire video?

  • @Janesch The end did sound nice, but at a volume of about 1 or 2. That tells you nothing about headroom, which I believe is the more accurate measurement for a good sounding clean channel. Makes me think something is being concealed here.

  • @duhbearz It's an introductory video so it was limited plus an amp can only be apprecited fully in person.

  • The amps uses 12AX7's and 6V6 output tubes

  • I think the distortion sounds good.

  • @TheHawkdaddy Then buy a line 6 product

  • @bornburied

    Fuck Line 6

  • sounds really fizzy and not really that tight.

  • @heminder Yup its overly warm fuzzy indistinct--Maybe if he dialed it in ?

  • Is that a solid state amp? Because something is not right with the distortion

  • @superskwrl It sounds like his hair looks LOL

  • Oh my....I'm really loving it...anyone knows the price range these SE amps are gonna be?

  • THE WORLD WILL NEVER BE THE SAME!!

  • Sounds very good.By the way we should give it up for Mr.Smith not only he builds fine instruments,he also introduces us to great new talents, like D.Knowles,K.Capolino,Orianthi or this young fella here.He has some real chops, looking forward to see more of him.

  • @greekfreak1980 Good for a couple hundred bucks sure......I play a high quality PRS knock off which plays better than any PRS I've tried. Orianthi is a contrived female hack.....

  • @bornburied Congratulations you made it to the semi-finals for the Annual ''Biggest youtube troll'' 2011 award.

  • @greekfreak1980 Feed me bitch!

  • fathers, lock up your daughters. there's a new guitar slinger in town....

  • @aheck dime a dozen these days......

  • sounds soo much better through real speakers then laptop speakers! dirty channell sounds good as is, even eq'd flat. i guess that's what they're going for.

  • @blastDERVbeat well your a tone deaf mother fucker aint ya?

  • @blastDERVbeat not everybody has shitty old school cheapo comp speakers-- in fact most players I know have much better speakers than non musicians -some even use thier studio monitors.Mine can produce full sound below 82hz without a sub woofer.

  • Clean sounds wonderful, but to me the dirty channel sounded flat and muddy! Just my opinion though of course

  • @Kaelan66 Welcome to the majority!

  • That sounds great!!!!!

  • What type of tubes are used in the pre-amp section?

  • @zombieheadhunter 12AX7's

  • I wasn't sold until I heard that clean tone and "Over the Rainbow". Nice.

  • wow!!! I want to have one!!!

  • @antonio271429 what another lobotomy?
