  • Is it true that armadillos can somehow carry leprosy?

  • Thats an urban legend. That's not true.

  • If you are referring to Armadillos carrying leprosy: No, it is not. They are one of the few non-human animals capable of carrying leprosy. They are widely used in scientific research on the disease because they allow non-human testing.

  • whats leprosy? im not english so i was just wondering.. btw im norwegian.. mkey :)

  • Leprosy is a disease best known for causing lesions on skin. It was a highly stigmatized condition that led to the creation of "leper colonies".

Fortunately, today the condition is highly treatable.

  • what the hell is an armadillo?

  • lol

  • It's a rugby ball.

  • Armadillo is this animal. They live in the wild in Southern USA.

  • you have to be careful when using the word weird, in this case you should be saying interesting, it would be weird if the armidilo was doing something random, ilove armidilos, i've never seen an armidilo walk like that usually ive seen them walk flat not hunched

  • No.

  • Yes they are in the order edentata (xenartha) along with sloths and anteaters. Hippo you have no idea what you are talking about. And jess they are very close relatives. And very annoying. :)

  • armadillos are wierd??? LOL

  • ?.........

  • Awesome! Just to let you know that is not a nine banded armadillo. Nine banded armadillos do not roll up like that. Nice vid.

  • Sorry guys about the comment. Didnt hear that it was a three banded armadillo.

  • Armadillos in the wild dont carry leprosy. However they are one of the few mammals (including humans) that can actually catch a leprosy infection and show symptoms, so they are used in research looking for cures for the disease. So the good news is the only place you will find an armadillo with leprosy is in a lab.

  • It's pressing down + B.

  • can anyone clear up the leporsy concerning these creatures? are they contagious,is it rare for them?I plan to move to texas and want to understand the creatures better there

  • Your not going to contract leprosy any time soon. I live out in Cypress, TX. Quite a few of these little dudes, but no one has leprosy. Use google, and search leprosy armadillo, lots of articles for you to read.

  • Thnak you for your help,I love all those critters and only hope their population is strong/safe.We put out rabbies vacine for our racoons to protect them, maybe something can be done for the infected armadillos.thanks again

  • No problem. Enjoy your time in Texas. If your going to live out in the country areas though, I suggest you do learn up on how to recognize different snakes though. Where are you planning to move to?

  • WOOT! ARMARDILLOS!

  • Armadillos RULE!!!

  • so cute..
