  • Stupid sample lady, indeed. How dare she deny Alice Ripley?

  • Y THEY CUT THIS?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

  • Next time i go to costco, i am totally going to preform that song in the middle of the store!!! (problem: i wayyyy too shy)

  • i think this proves natalie has a point when she sings 'freaking out at the store'

  • oh.my.god. so glad that they cut this song out.

  • "Who is she to judge me? Stupid sample lady." lol. It did need to be cut, but its still hilarious...

  • AWFUL! Thank goodness they took it out!

  • There was no space for real weak link songs in the final production... and this is a bit of a weak link............... sorry to say..............

  • I LOVE the way she lifts her leg when she falls!! Alice Ripley is the coolest.

  • I just realized that this uses some of the same music as "The Break", and I love the comic relief of this song but it really needed to be cut

  • Comment removed

  • WHY WAS THIS CUT? ITS AMAZING!

  • Lol!!I would be laughing if I saw this on a Costco commercial!:)

  • i ADORE, ADORE, ADORE the end. "couldn't i get a little help over here?" i love her voice soooo much <3

  • I know why they cut it, it needed to be cut, but it really showed the mania which IS a part of BPD and it is something they failed to continue to show throughout the show.

  • i'm really glad they got rid of this song.

  • LOL God she is fabulous. I'm a little sad this was cut although it was necessary, I think...SO funny though!! :D

  • this song doesnt really match the rest of the music...

  • "Here's the headline in the paper when you freaked out at the market..." Thinking that line may apply to this song?

  • @1920jenny In variations of the script that changed during this original off-broadway run at the end of the song Dan gets her and says, "I had the number from last time"

This situation has apparently happened numerous times.

Also, at the top of the show when Dan and Diana are done with sex he tells her to go to the store.

  • When would this be in the show. If it were in the show. I can't think of a part it may be at. But this performance is bliss.

  • @sephiroth87932 It was right after Everthing Else, it looks like. It was cut before actually going onto Broadway, unfortunately. =[

  • i think that Costco sponsored the show =]

  • Or this could have shown one of her episode

  • This might have been trying to show how crazy she can be

  • If I saw this on the Broadway version, I would have been like, WTF?!

  • lol why didnt costco pick this up for their commercials XD

  • @879SCSP

Does Costco even have commercials...? I don't think so but if they did this would be perfect, lol.

  • this is so out of character its hilarious

  • Now I really see why this was cut. Hello? Manic mother with bipolar disease? Mother suffering at home? Now we cut to this live comedy commercial to whiplash the seriousness.

  • @AliaSparrow well this song would be part of the mania. its supposed to be different but i can see why they cut it.

  • I'm not sure if that were ever in the REAL show, Broadway or Off-Broadway, it could have been some April Fools performance done for fun. Or just a theatre commercial just to do something different.

  • what scene is before this with henry nd nat?? do you have the vid.?

  • @futuresuperstar4life The song's called Perfect, and was replaced by Everything Else.

  • At what part of the show did this scene originally exist?

  • Comment removed

  • @lordvalamor It was between Perfect and Who's Crazy/My Psychofarmacologist and I, I think.

  • While this song is cute and nice, I am glad they cut it. It seems odd with the rest of the play and takes away from the uniqueness and difference from the rest of Broadway the new show brings.

Though I think the writers should write a satire using the campiest showtune music possible. That would be so much fun.

  • alice is fuckin brilliant. even in the cut songs.

  • This song is very clever! I was reading somewhere that the writers decided to cut all cuteness from the show after the off-broadway run. I love this song but I do see why they cut it.

  • I want this sheet music. I love this song...

  • This is genious. I love it! Wish it were still in the production.

  • I'm kinda glad they took this out. lol. Sorry!

  • OMG this is so gooooooooood!

which scene is this? i only know the broadway version and im just so curious! at least i know this is not off-broadway version...so washington verison???

please someone kind answer this question!!!!

  • @NYBroadwayelphie It's the Off-Broadway version.

  • this would totally work in another show...

  • It sounded like genital store.

  • I agree with the decision to cut this song, as it doesn't fit in with the rest of the show, but on its own it's genius!

  • @fidget68 Exactly.

  • Wow. This is ridiculous.

     I love it. :)

  • hahaha story of my life! i could live in costco and be really happy! in fact, i could live off thier frozen yogurt.

    alice ripley..........you win.

you win so freaking much. it blows my mind!

  • I say fuck the people who say she can't sing anymore.

  • Whoa... I've never seen this part! Its hilarious! But I'm kinda glad they took it out. It doesn't seem to fit.

  • Its funny for all the wrong reasons it took me some research to work out it was bipolar disorder that was causing this I thought it was simple statement for our I mean everyones over use of resources.

  • Im so sad they took this out. it was one of my favorite parts of the show :(

  • Stupid sample lady!

  • Ugh. I'm so glad they cut this. The whole "manic shopping" thing of bipolar people is such a stereotype. I know many bipolar people- and they NEVER do this. It's insulting to say the least.

We definitely see the manic side of Diana in the show as is- that's what the whole opening sequence is. She's up at 4AM in one of her episodes.

  • @ShodieSaner Eh, it is kind of a stereotype but my mother and I are both bipolar and she did spend a few thousand dollars at the peak of her manic episode once, so I know it does happen. I agree it was a bit much for the show though.

  • i like seeing the 'manic' side of diana. we don't see enough of that in next to normal now.

  • I don't think this fits in with the show, its WAY to corny, but it PERFECTLY demonstrates the shopping tendencies of a manic person.

  • is this the reason for why Natalie says "freaking out at the store" in Hey #3?? lol

    i love this

  • i see why this was cut, but this song rocks. alice ripley is a rockstar and her acting.. well needless to say it's beyond phenomenal. myy hero. haha love! really this song.. is great!

  • OMG!! I LOVE LOVE LOVE Alice Ripley!!

I think 1:32 is hilarious! I think it's ok that they took this song out but I love that part! I love Alice's interpretation of Diana!

  • @tswiftchick my best friend said he saw it online, but u can trust him, he knows everything. :)

  • @tswiftchick my friend. he knows everything so u can trust him. they said they would record it b4 aaron left so theoretically it us already recorded and just waiting to be produced.

  • im really glad they took this song out. it doesnt go with the rest of the score at all

  • @Kdellossantos they r making a CD of the cut songs. i dont when its coming out, but they promised to make one.

  • @princessbeef14 really?! where did you hear that?

  • This is awesome! But it doesn't fit with the rest of the show very well, so I'm glad they cut it from the final version. :]

  • I love this song even though i like the ending of Just Another Day better, but they should make an album of the cut songs.

  • "Who is she to judge me?" <--LOVE IT!

  • this is HYSTERICAL. But I think they made the right choice in cutting it, and adding the sandwhich thing to Just Another Day for the example of her mania, rather than using this.

  • I love this... good to see a manic side of her. I went it to Costco and started singing this... see why it's out, but still.

  • haha this was hilarious XD I think it was good to cut it out, but its still funny!

  • where was this in the show when it was in there? and why did they take it out?

  • i meant to say and did the replace it with a song tht wasnt originally there?

  • It was right after Natalie sings "Perfect" (which was replaced with "Everything Else") and meets Henry...now it sadly just goes onto Psychopharmacologist.

  • I understand why they took this out, but that doesn't mean it isn't fantastic!!

    "Stupid sample lady"

  • I totally agree with you. I do understand why they took this out of the show..but this song is just SO insanely creative! Alice is incredible..of course. And you gotta love Brian's part at the end. haha.

  • Oh Alice. She's so amazing. It's horrible how they took this out of the show. Just like how they switched Love and War with Positive in Legally Blonde (Not that I didn't like Positive, L&W was funnier). Anyways, I hope I can go to NYC in december and see this! :D

  • I love this song, but i understand why they cut it. it's a bit too light for the show, at least in my opinion

  • I love me some Alice Ripley

  • As someone with mental problems I could see this making sense, in a kind of manic sense!

  • I do think they should've taken this out, but I like seeing this side of Diana (:

    "Well, FUCK HER!" xD

  • I love this because the real Costco lady was so nice to her.

  • This song should have also stayed with the show.

  • i LOVE this video and i wish they hadn't taken it out of the show.

  • I just went to Costco and I listened to Next To Normal on the way there! :-D

  • Eh, I'm glad they took this out.

  • she's amazing. End of story

  • I love this song so much i dont know why they took it out, its so funny and shows just how crazy she is! One of my favs from the show

  • Ahh, while I'm glad this isn't in the show, I do love this song :)

Alice gives an amazing, kooky, hilarious performance :D, and the lyrics are great!

    Thanks for uploading :)

  • This is really cute. Although it's a good choice that they cut it out of the show, I think they should maybe perform at some cabarets or something cause it's so funny. :]

  • this is funny

  • I'm glad this isn't actually in the show (it doesn't totally give off the right feeling), but it's still hilarious and I love watching it. :) Thank you for putting it up here!

  • This song led to a song called "The Cavalry." It was another delusional episode, where Diana envisioned Dan as a cowboy.

    Kind of ridiculous, I know.

  • full show???

  • it was so much more campy off-broadway, I get the feeling.

  • i just realized she said "soxes". haha.

  • @SapAndJil "Soxes" makes me laugh everytime.

  • in what scene did they say aaron wore boxers because i read about it in some blogs?

  • I'm pretty sure its in Just ANother Day, I'm not sure though

  • thanks

  • "Just Another Day"

  • i love how when she throws the boxes up, two of them stick to the set. haha. this is hilarious. i love when she squeaks her feet on the floor. haha.

  • i thought this got cut?

  • i love how she slides her feet in the beginning when she gets to the cart

  • how long do u think next to normal will be on broadway

    a year?

  • I hope it will stay around a lot longer. I really hope it lasts longer than the Phantom!! haha

  • like maybe 9 more months

  • yeah. As well as it's written, it really doesnt have what it takes to be a superlong run. Not a big enough audience.

I dont know why but this scene makes me uncomfortable... im just crazy about scenes with greedy shopping.

  • I think you're underestimating it...

  • i'm absolutely obsessed with this.

  • stupid sample lady :3

  • A Promise? do you have that?

  • Do you have Just Another Day, It's Gonna Be Good, Superboy and the Invisible Girl, It's Gonna Be Good (Reprise), Why Stay, and Light

  • Thanks for all these N2N clips, noprincessofpain. Especially interesting to see clips like this one to get an idea of how the show has evolved. I hope it is still playing--with this cast--when I get to NYC in September.

  • The OBC will be still in. Aaron is returning in September

  • Thanks for this update, broadwaymike. Good to know.

  • i love this song!

  • this isn't in the show anymore.

  • Question: Where did this actual fit in the show? I've been thinking this over the past couple of days and really couldn't figure it out...

  • I was thinking of that too all I could think of was later in the show Natalie mantions that she freaked out at the market so maybe this is the freakout...but I'm not entirely sure

  • they cut the plot point from the actual show.

It was originally where she freaked out at the end of act one how she freaks out at home originally she freaked out in COSTCO but they thought her freaking out at home was a better choice for the plot and the character developments

  • this is the part where she freaks with the sandwich's on the floor

  • It happens after Pefect [Which was later replaced by Everything Else] .You see, in the Broadway production, we find out there is something wrong w/Diana when she is making sandwiches in "Just Another Day". That never happened in the 2nd stage production. "Costco" is the song that tells us that there is something wrong w/Diana.

  • Jake Wilson performes this so well! Alice Ripley is awesome!

  • where did he perform this at?

  • the video is on Andrew Keenan-Bolger's page

  • thanks, got it

  • This is amazing. Going to NY to see this next week, is it correct that this is not in the final show on Broadway? Jeez if this is the standard of the stuff they cut I'm super psyched to see it!!!!

  • yeah they cut this song. have fun at the show!

  • that makes sence becuase it's not on the soundtrack.

  • ^^^^^= the best Costco commercial EVER. x]

  • 1:31 - 1:33 = hilarious!

  • I need the sheet music for this song!!

  • Wish they would add this back!

Is it in the Cast soundtrack?

  • No I wish it was still in the show

  • no its not ... its on some bootleg off broadway audios of the show...

  • I love this scene . . . I love when she says "I mean who is she to judge me? Stupid sample lady . . . "

I love the tone of her voice when she says "sample". LOL

  • now i REALLY want to go to Costco and just sing this! :D i crack up at 1:32everytime!!!!!!!

  • You and me both!!!

  • is this 2st or arena?

  • 2st. It was cut after about a month because it broke up the flow of the show.

  • LMAO costco #325

  • ive seen the show at arena and i am kinda glad they cut this. it really doesnt add anything to the show...im not trying to bash it im literally obsessed with this show just the way it is.

  • It actually does though because it shows how she is in her manic moments of her bipolar disorder. Fast and not completely thinking through with what she's doing (a la buying 3 computers and all the other things she did).

I really wish they left it in.

  • haha costco #357

  • i work at costco! ha

  • this is a great video! COSTCO rules!

  • I saw it when i watched the play and OMG it was amazing! The whole play was brilliant!

  • This wasn't in the version I saw! LOL. Awesome

  • haha, did you see it toward the end of the run? :) They cut it about 2 weeks before the 2st production closed! Although I DO understand why they cut it and why the show runs more smoothly without it, it's still SUCH a great scene. Alice is absolutely brilliant and adorable <3
