This video is great! Tinning the braid then using a dremel tool to cut it to size worked like a charm. I can tell you are a pro at this and I have just adopted your technique! So based on your suggestions I bought the Belden 9913F7 and soldered both PL-259’s with a 40 watt iron with no issues and it worked out great. Many thanks! -Rob
I do not understand why anyone uses these antique designs connectors. Much better versions are available, they are easier to install and especially to check the quality of work. The tools are too heavy-duty connector assembly - especially file. Connector coatings can be damaged if the tools are not suitable. An entirely different thing is that the UHF Connectors time would have been over long ago because a lot better, such as Type N connectors can be found at the same price ...
Excellent video and well done too, would love to see more on other aspects of this great hobby, either station stuff like this one, or operating. In the internet age guys like you and Randy, K7AGE on YouTube have become my online virtual Elmers. Thanks and 73,
Excellent tutorial, I will be using this method very soon when my new coax is delivered. I am just a CB tinkerer, but that is an awesome looking shack!
Thanks for this excellent video series! With some many folks out there who profess to do it the "proper" way, I found your explanation easy to follow. By the way, the videography was outstanding and your opening credits are just plain slick! Sure brings back some memories!
Lacking an air compressor, I'm thinking a aerosol canister of computer duster spray might work in a pinch.
