i love how galliano came back to dior's roots and really showed how this genius of a man named christian dior really gave a new silhouette for the modern woman
I enjoyed this. I'd forgotten how grotesque clothes and underwear were in the 50s. Still, if fashion has nowhere else to go then it was going to end up in the 50s sometime. So, we might as well get it over and done with. Roll on the 60s when everyone's clothes were designed and cut well. Liked the intentions of the designer but I think French knickers might have been more appropriate.
does anyone know if the couture collection from the summer of 2006 is still around? that's probably my favourite ever. you know, the one where galliano was inspired by the far east...?
@0casteloencantado0 It is my favourite too. It seems to be taken down on Youtube, but I have been able to find it on the web. Just search for the title and you should find some fashion sites which have the full show! You can save them with your browser if you have a plugin. I did that and watched it 100 times more ;)
@0casteloencantado0 actually 2006 summer is inspired by French revolution, gothic style and very dramatic. for far east(Japan and China) it probably should be either 2003 Spring(China opera) or 2007 Spring (Japan opera: madama butterfly). these are two of my favourite Dior HC shows so far <3<3 . hope u find the info of use. these two shows full video can be found on Youtube
i'm glad i found this, because a few weeks ago i went to the dior website to see this but it had been replaced by the new collection. this one is more beautiful.
Somebody knows what are the names or the songs in this part!! I Love the first and second!!! I someone knows it!! please tell me!!! I'd be glad!!! for ever!!
nice....but did u guys notice that dior hv the alomost smae thing since 2004?all he silhoutte looks the smae, the bias looks the smae, the details looks the same, its all looks like from the same collection, jz change the way they wear it...
2) kasia struss (6:10); denisa dvorakova 7:50; siri tollerod 0:50 (part 2); the mighty heidi mount 2:00; toni garrn 5:20; maria kashleva 5:50; poor tanja dzahileva at 6:20 had frightful problems ...:(; morgane dubled 0:35 (part 3); natasha poly 1:10; alexandra agoston 1:45; charlotte di calypso 2:50 (not usually my fave, but beyond reproach here) >:)
who descends an 18th century parisian staircase best??? - it has to be the great ms sasha pivovarova at 1:25 !!!...\,,/ honorable mention must go to the following: interestingly, most are runway superstars, but it's not easy to get into a dior show if you aren't ! thana kuhnen, 1st face; olga sherer 1:40; chanel iman 2:15; caroline trentini 2:45 (ok so the last stair was a bit tough); the great jekelienne stange (just after) got swung around a bit by her big ole bag, too bad ...:( ; vlada (5:30
I believe much of them are kept safe in show rooms in the Dior boutique for potential couture buyers, although I wouldn't doubt some may be sent to museums or fashion institutes/schools right after..
Oh kiddies, the trend back in late 70's was under wear as outwear... actually could have been late 80's. It's something I've seen reoccurring a few times. It's not trendy anymore, but honestly Christian Dior pulled it off. I have to agree with a man who commented on here saying it is the construction of design, and honestly he is spot on. It's blossoming from top to bottom. Also this HAUTE COUTURE! Not really meant for every day wear but an expression of art. So really shut your traps.
u have a point, but I did not find it vulgar, in fact I believe this is one of Dior's best shows. Its a like a reflection to the New Look back in the 40's
Sorry, but no, if you were familiar with Christian Dior's first showing in 1947, you would never say that this is a reflection of that incomparable collection.
Dior never displayed undergarments on the runway. He was known for pure class and brilliance when it came to his designs. Yes, I love Galliano, but he's taken Dior into a new direction (which I'm not knocking at all), but comparing this to the 1947 collection is dismal to say.
That is just my opinion aq2241984, and the opinion of many here at WWD. And by the way, this collection was inspired by the New Look, Galliano said so. Get use to the fact that fashion is changing.
Firstly, for someone that claims to work for WWD, you do not write very well nor do you explain fashion like that is necessary to be employed there.
Of course fashion is changing and it always has.. when did I say it wasn't? Fashion is evolutionary. Indeed, everyone's entitled to their opinion, whether you work for WWD or not, but then again, it's just an opinion.
As I said before, revealing undergarments on the runway is completely opposite of what Dior's first collection was about. That is a fact. It was a celebration of the end of a massive world war with the restrictions on textiles and garment usage. Dior wanted to show that women can be glamorous again with slim silhouettes, flowy skirts and dresses with incredible amounts of color.
. It had nothing to do with revealing undergarments nor did any piece show an inch of one (that is also a fact), so I don't see where the origin of your so-called opinion is.
By the way, when did Galliano say that? Link to a video interview or publication would be appreciated. I don't remember that interview and if he did, I'm guessing he's just referring to the fact that his designs are utilizing similar silhouettes and hats.
As a graphic designer, this collection not only celebrates the NEW LOOK, but the overall process of DESIGN. The process of construction and the undergarments revealed is like a rough sketch to a painter before the painter begins to paint an image (or in this case, the 'NEW LOOK'). It's pitiful to see how some people just can't comprehend....
understandable, but considering the current state of the economy and the dying art of couture, I think it's pretty understandable to see more toned-down couture. this collection is a modern interpretation of the way Christian Dior originally presented his garments to his clients in the 50's and idealizing the process of different state of dress.
it's probaly inside the house of dior ... since da theme was; going bak to da time where couture shows were held like dis ... ... ... buh i mite b wrong ... :D
I'm obsessed with this Dior show...at work I pose at the stairs, pretending to be Natasha or Vlada LMFAO...I absolutely love the third song at 6:35 someone tell me the name!
Miss Kitten at Dior... Salt-n-Peppa at Lanvin... Tiga at Chanel... The Chemical Brothers at Balenciaga ....I love the juxtaposition of old masters of couture and something sharp and new, particularly when classic clothing is set to extremely contemporary music.
