@Lockpicker sadly i don't think you could do a simple guide. each ruler or anything you use in this case. (iv seen somebody do this with a stick of ram... priceless) would be different. the best way to find what positions makes what note. just get an acoustic guitar tuner and move it around and mark on the ruler a line at where it meets the table and the note,

@Lockpicker It's pretty simple, generally each mm is a full tone, e.g. each mm would go from C straight to D, to E, etc. so it's a bit hard getting it accurate
