you see what makes these leach packers so good is because they have wheels in the slide blocks so there fore it reduces friction .and yes these are definley the best rl out there .
A rear loader eating a car? How naive can you get? They don't have the power of a car crusher hydraulic press. As for automobile parts, I'd doubt it if a Leah could crush an engine block, for example. The blade may pull it into the body but it would be whole. It could not damage it.
I seriously doubt it would go through the frame. The body panels on newer cars are cheap plastic, fiberglass, or some aluminum so it would do damage there.
I've seen a large diameter tree trunk stop a Leach blade dead in its track, on trucks used for yar waste collection. An I-beam has greater sheer strength than a tree so I doubt a packer blade would dent it, but I'm not surprised the blade itself would get damaged. While the blade is strong, it's not enough to do damage to an I-beam. The material strength disproves this.
Okay Greg, so a Leach 2R or even a McNeilus or Heil for that matter would be able to bend an I-beam that is used as a building support or in a house? I don't think so. The force those cylinders exert does not even come close to exceeding the sheer strengh of one of those I-beams. Now, if the I-beam you're talking about is one of the very small ones used to hold up interstare signs, that could be a possibility...but one used in buildings ...don't think so.
Well I don't care what you believe either. You still never clarifiedwhat type of I-beam. If it's a smaller one as I mentioned, possibly. If it's one used in holding up buildings...no way. Besides, like I said, a tree trunk stopped one being used for yard waste pickup in my area. BTW, I've seen the video of the McNeilius on here cutting through the tree...this one was bigger in diameter than that one.
Yes. There is a video on youtube of a garbage truck eating a car .. I lost it but it is somewhere . It was a movie clip to advertise the strength of a new garbage truck (Made like in the 1980s or so)
I've seen the video. It's a Schorling 2R. Like I believe that's a real car. Advertisers can do wonderful things. Let's see if it can take a full size truck, a regular sized car, etc. Come back to me when you see that happen.
@bearcat2842 I work with all kinds of refuse / garbage collection vehicles, and I can confirm that they can crush / pack anything given. It just all depends on wot pressure the hyraulics are set at
If I put say, a solid steel object in the hopper, say the size of a safe and you tried to bring the blade into direct contact with it, the hydraulics would cut out. You can raise the psi all you want but the hoses/lines would burst first. A chunk of construction I-beam or even an engine block would stop it as well. So, it can't crush everything that you put into it. Need I give more examples?
@bearcat2842 I worked at a Lowe's store recently, and saw a safe thrown into the stationary compactor...the blade had the safe against the opening for the container...it slowed it down for a few seconds...you could hear the pump motor drop in pitch...but then the safe bent under the pressure, and got mashed into the container.
@bearcat2842 I just wanted to say there is a video of an garbage truck in the Uk that eats a whole car and it flattens it as much as most car crushers can .i saw the video. When i find it i will send you a link.
The Leach 2R Packmaster is the best RL ever built. While others such as the McNeilus packstar are probably reasonably good. The Leach 2R Packmaster is king. The basic design of the packing mechanism of the Leach 2R has been unchanged for 50 years. It has been proven to be the best, time and time again. The Leach 2R is simply unbeatable.
I totally agree with you 100%. I remember seeing an 1987 2R-II/MackRDSteel nose chassis back up north devour and destructively pack an entire sofa with a mouth full of trash on a commerical route in 1 cycle like it's nothing!!! WOW!! NOTHING WILL EVER BEAT A LEACH!!!!!
I have seen the Leach 2R Packmaster devour sofas, furniture, automobile body parts, demolition debris without a problem. YOU SIMPLY CAN'T BEAT A LEACH!!
Ok I have a question...when I worked for WM our trucks had safety button on the side of truck for the blade to curl...was a manditory thing on all our trucks. Another thing...we would get in big time shit if we were in the back putting more stuff in while the blad was packing!!!..5 stars btw!!
To be honest...I hated working on the Leach....my truck had a Universal and it worked WAY better than the 3 Leach trucks we had. Great video though...just my opinion.
Really? That's suprising to hear. In my experience, and that of many others, Leaches are the best out there, bar none. What exactly was wrong with them?
Well our were pretty old so that is more than likely why I did not like them. Found that the blades cracked pretty easy on them. The step is way to high off the ground and made it tireing to step up all day long...might just have been the ones we had.
We do have a C and D facility, right here at the Collier County Landfill. Great place, everything imaginable is recycled. But most of this bulk waste goes in with the regular trash, they might pick out larger furniture if it's not completely destroyed at the landfill.
Cool video, these Leachs really look nice with the WM's green/yellow paint scheme! Kudos to Leach for keeping that giant, powerful packer prevalent in their RL models!
good vidio do you know that you can get models of these in 1:50 scale from the maker conrad things like this are hard to compress but some people would probably think a cooker is hard to crush but i would say not actuly i hope to see more action mate .cool
danm i want a leach! but no im stuck with two shitty universals and a heil that sprays hydraulic fluid.. -sigh-

Eating a car would be no problem. Yes the engine block couldn't be crushed, maybe slightly deformed. But the rest of the car would be.

On the frame itself...I don't think so.

I worked for waste management for a few years. One of the guys I worked with wanted to see if it would bend an I beam.
10 inch. think the steel was about an inch thick. It did bend it but did a lot of damage to the packer blade.
He ended up getting fired.
