  • woho.. what a protest all shouting ofcourse...

  • U mAd bRo!

  • Every year Birgeneau would request a budget increase, the regents would agree to it, and the legislature would provide. The hard questions were avoided by all concerned, and the problems just piled up to $150 million of inefficiencies….until there was no money left. The problem is Birgeneau NOT legislature

  • to add on to my previous message the real problem with is the house of reps

  • for being such liberal minded people, like myself, you guys need to read the news. our country is dealing with a tremendous budget deficit problem and California and New York are the two states with the highest debt with respect to financial stability . These public educations cuts are happening to every state ran school in this nation. So instead of "protesting", which conveys your ignorance, why can't we find courage through times of adversity to not only help CAL out, but our nation.

  • If you think the protests at Berkeley were comparable to recent activities in Egypt or even Wisconsin please check your sense of scale. Clean out your outrage filter. No one is being oppressed, & tuition increases have been anticipated for a long time.

I don't disagree that education should be treated as a right. But targeting the university directly is misdirected and wasted effort. Why not target Prop 13? Or spiraling prison spending? If you want to look at why tuitions go up, start there.

  • @erielhonan the university itself was not the target. The students were respectful to school property and the building was not damaged in anyway.

The only violence was when a few inadequately trained cops from neighboring precincts became unnecessarily aggressive in forcing students off the steps.

Education is increasingly becoming unaffordable. Current tuition rates in the U.S. are shameful. Particularly when we a squandering billions in a poorly conceived and executed war.

  • @0past The univ was the site of the protest, the occupation of a univ building was the tactic, and negotiations with the Chancellor (on matters he has no control over, no less) was the goal. Given facts, how can you possibly say the univ wasn't the target?

Most of the organizers were non-students by the way. I saw a lot of rent-a-anarchists wielding the bullhorns there. I'm sorry if your mom and dad were too whatever, but you'd make more money if you weren't professional tantrum-throwers.
