no... he oils up the needle and pokes the more rubbery part. If you noticed as he took the needle out the baloon started to shrink. so he popped it quickely after that to make it look legit lol.. you can use zippo lighter fuel or something.. ^^

rough sand paper on the needle works amazingly. I did that at my dad's magic show, and stole the show. I stabbed the needle through and through, and didn't even get a leak.

i'm surprised not many people know this.

the slow penetration makes the rubber form a seal around the object.

A fast puncture would create a gap and cause the difference in pressure to pop the balloon.

no special things are needed. Just a thick needle and a balloon.

The needle did not have anything to do with it, nor the petroleum jelly. My Teacher even used a pencil and she made it look like a barbecue. She said there's a scientific explaination there. Thanks for the vid.

Yes, it's a needle used for sewing cloth dolls. It needs to be that long to poke through the entire head if you want to embroider the eyes and mouth. You can order them online anyplace that sells doll-making supplies.
