To disregard the part of your comment with the huge ego; No, it's not automatic. I have it wired up to numpad inputs which control the hydraulics and one cunningly hidden thruster.

the "toes" were actually working wheels that rotated it on the ground, the hydraulics changed length at different times also for turning, there may or may not have been a few hidden thrusters :P
