Sorry, but not even the later 2ch models come close to this IME...

The 3ch and later 2ch are still great amps, but quite different nonetheless

  • I wish my 3 channel sounded like this. Any idea how to come close? What changed from the old 2 ch heads to the newer 3 channel ones?

  • I would like to hear your modded Rectifier vs a regular stock Rectifier. I mean I have a 3 channel Triple Rectifier & I have never felt the need to have any mods done to it.

  • Should try to mix it with the Bogner Überschall ;)

  • did you use any boost like tube screamer? sounds like very definite

  • i dont know bro my road king is pretty bad ass not to take away from the sweet tone you have here.

  • Settings? :)

  • I actually think the DR is EXTREMELY versatile, just with the treble and gain knob alone there are tons of very different sounding tones.

  • @LasseLammert LOL@troll

  • @LasseLammert It has quite the palette of heavy tones for sure. I find the orange channel on Vintage is a sweet lead voice with a really nice elastic feel. Red to modern is the opposite and great for heavy rock and metal type rhythm tones. I find it isn't so good when it comes to blues style tones. That is what the Electra Dyne is for!

  • I used to have the Classic (handwired predecessor of the CLX), the Ultralead-EQ and the 2150 Poweramp.

  • @LasseLammert Well I understand a bit now. I've played the CLX and UL myself. The CLX is too warm sounding for modern metal and I found the UL to be a bit bizzare sounding ; it's the driest of all the VHT's and you really had to play that fucker loud to get the preamp and the poweramp to gel.Plus, at the time most of the tunes we played were standard tuning with the odd drop D.I actually perferred the 50/ST w/EQ.I ran it's preamp into a large tube poweramp for rehersal/gig and used a boost.

  • What I really liked is that the shift , edge and boost buttons worked well. They weren't over the top and fake sounding.I really could could get almost any rock/metal tone out of that rig.I found the DR has sweet spots but it is really only one sound.I think you cound reduce the DR to just presets having 3 sets of 3 way switches instead of gain and eq and just 1 volume knob.If you're not dialed into the sweet spots the sound is sub par.My VHT wasn't as finicky.

  • Did I mention the hiss?

Hating aside, the world is a better place with the DR in it.

but back in the day it had richer sound, with more features than the PV5150 and it wasn't a JCM 900. The PV Ultras weren't bad at all perhaps if they looked cooler and didn't have the stigma (for some)

Of course it offered a unique sound and pretty much helped launch a new genre of metal music.

The DR is fairly versatile too.

BTW Which mode VHT's did you own?

  • I owned owned a new '94(does exsist) DR.I had it for a month but no matter how I dialled her in -it never sounded quite right. The low mids was like wearing a sweater on a hot day while bloated from eating too much-and as you know turning the bass control off does nothing.

Even if you desired a scooped tone the amp sounds dumb without the mid at least at 11:00 and if there ever was an amp that hated EQ pedals......

Then theres the harshness in the high end.All DR series amp have it.

  • VHT RUULZZZ!!!

  • @bornburied

I had a couple of VHTs, nice amps for sure, but none of them has ever really blown me away for modern heavy stuff.

But that's just my taste, VHTs are good amps fir sure
