Mr. McClintock refers to sacrificing on the altar...conservation is not sacrificial...it is necessary. This type of politician knows that conservation is necessary but he refuses to have the balls to say it.
Mr. McClintock is my representative. He doesn't even live in the district he represents. He wants to ship our water to SoCal where he is from. Delta smelt are a baitfish. Sportfishing brings in MORE income to communities than does agriculture. Most ag in the Central Valley is big agribusiness, not small farms. He is either lying, or is grossly misinformed (by lobbying groups).
This is full of misinformation, much of it unintentional.
1) Howitt et al. estimate 21,000 total job losses, with 16,000 from drought and 5,000 from pumping restrictions. David Zetland is a good resource for the Congressman -- check his aguanomics blog
2) Before July, drought was responsible for most pumping restrictions. Water rights for SWP and CVP have salinity restrictions. Pumping more would have pumped salt water into the aquaducts.
3) Fallow farms lack water rights; others got 100%
