Fantastic documentary but I completely fail to see anything 'new' in the 'a new history' claim. We've been aware of all of this all along. Still, very well done, brilliantly put together, and downright riveting.
I'm troubled that China is held up as the new rising star of capitalism. China is just showing the West it can do capitalism as well as any Western democracy. It can out-Mickey Mickey Mouse! Do the Chinese really aspire to be just karaoke versions of the West? If so, sadly, their enslavement to an alien ideal is total!
I agree that China should always strive to preserve it's uniqueness and ancient culture, and not just copy the West and abandon everything they once held. But in the end, the system now is far better than the madness of Mao Zedong and his communism. Millions died in famine caused by economic mismanagement under that system. I'm pretty sure "alien ideal" or not, most Chinese would agree life is better now.
That's funny, Chinese did capitalism well before the Communists arrived. Its problem was that it could never solve its corruption (and it still can't). And yes, China will have economic growth problems in the near future. But they have their own ways of dealing with the problems and will develop different problems.
There is NOTHING to learn here... British have it all wrong.. this is why it fell. America may be in troubling times. But, the innovation and freedoms (albeit sometimes the freedom is not as much as one would like ) that the USA came up with and struggled thru... while the rest of the world COPIES the USA.
