  • somewhere in my lifetime added to playlist

  • Phyllis Hyman and then Nancy Wilson and it's a wrap These two are two of the best voices period I mean with Sam Cooke and Donny Hathaway

  • Phyllis Hyman - Legend! I miss you Ma!

  • Vocally speaking; Phyllis Hyman + Anita Baker = Toni Braxton.

  • @daTruChosen I see where you're coming from! But what I absolutely LOVE about Phyllis Hyman was that she never bit off more than she could chew, she always stayed where she was vocally and knew her limits and capabilities. What set her apart from all the other singers who try to show off with their vocal acrobatics, excessive runs/riffs was that she still could capture and mesmerize with just that pure, simple voice. I think that was really something special about her.

  • @phymanforever You really captured great thoughts. Thank you.

  • @daTruChosen - Wow that is a chemical equation...

  • @daTruChosen you got that right

  • She is so beautiful anybody thinks Jazmine sullivan favors her..Maybe its the eyes or something.. idk

  • @claressajanell yeah ur right!she resembles her in a way

  • @claressajanell Hell F'*****ucking NO

  • @claressajanell Phillis look 10times better.

  • I miss her so much!! Meet me on the moon hands down her best ever.

  • @Alright641 one of the best songs ever period.... i can' t play it without crying... every single time....

  • thumbs up if this gives u chills

  • You Know How to Love Me sends chills down my spine every time I hear it....

  • It is so sad to watch this because I don't need to hear the artist name or title to know there is a Phyllis Hyman song playing on the radio. I know that voice ever time they play her songs.

Unfortunately, I can't listen to the radio now adays because I can't tell who is singing what anymore. Most female artists sound alike...not all of them, but enough for me to stop listening to the radio for music unless the station plays oldies.

  • She always got respect in my community. She could Blow

  • honestly after doing research and finding out how the music industry is run, i wouldn't be suprised if her being in the industry played a role in her depression. when u sign that record contract, ur signing ur soul over to the devil. i think she changed when arista records took over. she stated, ''i have demons'' over and over. today wat the industry makes obvious now when it comes to devil worship and secret socities and artist bullying wasn't in the publics face then.

  • I LOVE listening to "You Know How To Love Me" You know when you would have those get togethers at one of your relatives houses? They be in the back playing cards, bbq'ing, kids running around, music blasting? When this song would be played, we kids be dancing the hell off of it. And if one of her slower songs came on, you were just so laid back and relaxed, you would just be so lost in her voice. I miss those times.

  • love her and her music..'somewhere in my lifetime' is beautiful and holds a special place in my heart it reminds me of my first love who passed away 4 years ago . her story is so sad we miss you phyllis.

  • Wasn't she asked to play Effie White in Dreamgirls as well?

  • love Phyllis and Regina

  • Barry Manilow? Fail..

  • Clive wanted Phyllis to be like what he made Whitney, but Phyllis was not having all that. Funny Whitney and Phyllis are my favorite singers.

  • @kmaur21 you got that right!

  • @phymanforever Hey did you notice Hyman has not had one pop hit to make it pass the top 100? She's only had R&B & Dance hits but she has not had one Pop song that peaked in the top 100. Isn't that pretty sad how not even her voice could get her the respect that she deserved? With a voice like hers, labels should've been fighting just to sign her but as usual, they go for quantity over quality.

  • @PopCulture20 that goes without saying! it still pains me that she was never quite revered in the way that she deserved to be. but still, there are tons of people who appreciate her :)

  • @phymanforever I feel like history is repeating itself because the same thing is happening with Christina Aguilera who was also inspired by artists like Hyman & Etta James and NO ONE seems interested in doing an album with Aguilera after her last two flopped, but instead, labels are pushing Britney's awful voice on us!!!!

  • @PopCulture20 I guess, like you said, quantity over quality. generally britney appeals to a wider audience and is able to churn out many albums with songs that are less than satisfactory and still have people interested in/buying her music. although christina is an excellent vocalist, she seems to be going down the same road with her 'upgraded' image and substanceless songs...

  • @PopCulture20 exactly

  • I always makes me sad to see artist with real talent forced on the back burner, for singers who are considered to have more of a crossover appeal.

  • @719kai719 That's why I don't put too many mainstream pop acts on my I-Pod because I get more inspiration from R&B, Rock, ,Hip-Hop, & Country.

  • @PopCulture20 Yes exactly:)

  • @PopCulture20 the pop charts are preserved for those who submit to their record labels hint why people like britney & lady gaga stay on the pop charts they sleep their way to the top.

  • So nice 4:18 I love that harmony real real music!
