  • I feel old, I remember when this aired on TV. I was 10 in 1992 and will be 30 this year.

  • Does anyone else remember "Sakes alive!" "No, SIX Alive!"? LOL

  • Oh man, does this bring back memories! I grew up in southern Maine, but had relatives downeast, so I vividly remember hearing both the WLBZ and WCSH versions of this song all throughout my childhood.

  • "Count On Us" is still alive! I saw it on Thanksgiving 2009 right after the 11pm newscast on WLBZ2. its the same song as it was updated in 95, but with current personnel and the gannett graphics. WooHoo!

  • R.I.P. Good News theme

  • Bob Elliot, RIP

  • Oh my, this brings back SO MANY MEMORIES! I was only 8 in 1992, but I remember this song, and was singing along with it the first time I played it! It's amazing what you can remember 17 years later.

  • NBC Come on Home! I mean, seriously, we were out of date by 1995 using that 1987 NBC jingle.

I have tons of WCSH and WGME footage from the late 80s and 1990s that I should capture and upload when I get free time.

  • WCSH's music rocked. They need to go back to this stuff.

  • WCSH & WLBZ yesterday dropped their longtime theme Frank Gari's Good News music package. They're now using that new Gannett Standardized graphics and music. It's sad to see the theme go in Maine.

    Good News

    1986-2008

  • I HATE those standard news packages that everyone uses now. The Good News theme was their identity and, even though used for quite a long time, the last graphics were still awesome. Too bad they caved in and changed. Well, it'll live long on youtube - there are a few different clips showing the different versions.

  • I'm kind of spoiled that WLS has still used News Series 2000 Plus since I was 6 and still use the same cues today. Glad that the ABC O&Os aren't standardizing. Gannett falls under the category with FOX, Media General, Hearst-Argyle & Sinclair. Gannett stations for many of them had custom themes that suits their market well, that now they have to standardized every Graphics and Music. That's a damn shame. No Identity, No Individuality.

  • I mean, look at what their stations use to have. Seize The Day, The Tower, Third Street Music's KUSA Package, KXTV's Custom Gari Package, even 615's Heartland used by WBIR for 8 years. WUSA used the Enforcer for 11 years before using that bastardized shit. I'm shocked many folks in Southern Maine didn't complain about the change in music. I would love to see another "PVI-effect" if you know what I mean.

  • yup- they used the same arrangment of get closer to the world , then changed it and got mass revolt and had to change back. When you find something that works dont change it- these canned packages, though nice, dont fit as well as individualy designed ones- i'm sure it's cheaper for the station to use the owner's graphics and music which is why they do it-

  • At least they are keeping the StormCenter theme, which is probably the most well-known cut of the old package in Maine. I don't live in Maine, so I wonder if there's been any backlash among the general public over this change.

As an aside: all 3 Portland newscasts now use music and graphics that were forced on them by their parent companies.

  • yup- and I hate all of them - though the new Gannett graphics and music are actually pretty good - It's just a sign of the times as locally owned stations get bought out by large companies.

  • I grew up in WLBZ-land and remember a very similar jingle...

  • replace "6alive" with "channel 2"

  • I'm rolling dude, this is so fricken awesome! So retro, so nostalgic! Hahaha. I too remember the Recycle song, and also: "Cities of the Androscoggan, Lewiston Auburn!" Hmm... what else is there for local TV jingles?

  • OMG! YES!

  • Wow, I had forgotten about that Lewiston-Auburn one!

  • Maine had some sweet material... The Maine Christmas Song by Malinda Liberty also hits the nostalgia button.... "that's the spirit of Maine, at Christmas time, from her mountains to her great Atlantic shore..."

  • In 2007 they re-released the CD that has the Maine Christmas Song. I bought a copy of it, and it's especially great to have it now that I'm no longer living in Maine. It has the original Maine Christmas Song, along with a new version by the Windham Chamber Singers and a French version by Melanie Dorice Saucier, who was around 13 when she recorded the song.

  • I have that CD! I ordered it from Maine Exiles! LOL. It was good to have this past Christmas season.

  • This jingle is still ingrained in my memory almost 19+ years later! I can also rattle off the old R-E-C-Y-C-L-E song from Color Me Green!

  • I'll never forget how to spell "Recycle"!!!
