I rode it yesterday, and I got this segment on my ride--and later the death star; what happens is you end up at Tattooine during a pod race, and you race along with them, then you steal parts of one of the riders' pods and use those to get a boost to win the pod race. The end of this clip shows the part where the pilot jettisons the pod materials and heads back up to space.

Then you come back the next day then visit Tattooine then death star. Then you ride again and visit hoth and naboo. The clip is just showing you a little bit of what happens on tattooine
It will use 3-D glasses, there will be 54 different rides, and no they wont have captain Rex, but they will have a new pilot named ACE, but when the ride gets more hectic, C-3PO takes over as pilot.

John Lasseter is currently principal creative adviser at Walt Disney Imagineering, California Adventure is currently in the middle of a muti-year billion dollar expansion to improve the park, and will open a Little Mermaid ride later this year. Also, the 12-acre Cars Land will open at California Adventure in 2012.

The films didn't take place in the future, but in the past. What's it doing in a place that is designed as the future? I barely just though of this right now!

So I guess you can say that this far away galaxy a long time ago is more futuristic than what we have in our own galaxy today (yea, I know this sounds very geeky but I'm trying to justify why Star Tours is in Tomorrowland lol).
Besides, there isn't a "Yesterdayland" and Star Tours would not look good next to the Tea Cups lol.
Is this ride going to give you an option of planets to tour like it says on Disney's main site? If it's not, and it based on just pod racing or one planet's scenery from newer star wars, it will be a big dissapointment. Please don't use excessive CGI. CGI along with physical models, like the original star tours is best. I hope it still feels like classic Star Wars. For the love of god, I don't want jar jar binks popping out during my ride experience.
To my understanding, they are keeping all of the original screens, and playing a different tour on each one. I'm not sure if you get to choose which screen you want to view or if you are just sent to a gate (like you do now, with the original Star Tours).
Again, this is only my understanding. It could all be totally different. However, I am more than certain there will be different tours, not all played on the same sitting.
I would prefer that the new Star Tours harkened more to the original three films. This "new" clip already looks out-dated. I fear that when this new version has been out for a year people will prefer the old version again.

Well, Star Tours at Disneyland is now closed. On its last day, I was in the very last group of people that rode one final time during regular park hours. It was awesome!

I'm pretty sure there will be more than the pod race...but for me, the highlight of Star Tours was always the trench run of the death star - no space battle in Eps 1-3 can compare to that! I think the iconic space ships of star wars were really from eps 4-6, so it's hard to think of other scenes from eps 1-3 that would make the new ride as exciting. Any true Star Wars fan would rather be part of the Death Star battle from the original Star Wars movie (A New Hope) than be part of the pod race from The Phantom Menace. The trench run is essential. Even a casual fan would prefer being in a space battle. If Disney wanted to improve the original Star Tours attraction by making the Death Star battle more realistic and believable, that would be great! Here is hoping that Star Tours II is more than just a pod race.

Luckily I have had a resent opportunity to say good bye to the classic star tours that I knew and grow up with. Still, I find it hard to believe they have to get rid of such a great ride. Star tours 2 better be a working title, because that isn’t going to make any since if there’s not going to be a star tours 1 anymore. Why not do what they did with the Tiki Room, and keep the old ride in Disney land, but put the new one in Disney world?
as a star wars fan, star tours honestly wasnt that great although the scenery outside the ride was great. im open to seeing any change to star tours (aside from anything from phantom menace)

Yes, its been confirmed that there will be multiple destinations on the new Star Tours. Pod racing will not be the only thing.

You guys need to check out the Disney Parks website. There's a Star Tours II video there that's pretty cool. It's supposedly "3 adventures." Go to google, type in "Disney Star Tours II" and there should be a link that's titled "New Star Tours Video..."

WAIT! Have you guys ever noticed that Star Tours is in TOMORROWland even though it says in the Star Wars films that the movie takes place "A long time ago, in a galaxy far far away..." The films didn't take place in the future, but in the past. What's it doing in a place that is designed as the future? I barely just though of this right now!

@ovega95 Star Wars does take place "a long time ago" but not in our own galaxy. So I guess you can say that this far away galaxy a long time ago is more futuristic than what we have in our own galaxy today (yea, I know this sounds very geeky but I'm trying to justify why Star Tours is in Tomorrowland lol).
Besides, there isn't a "Yesterdayland" and Star Tours would not look good next to the Tea Cups lol.

Is this ride going to give you an option of planets to tour like it says on Disney's main site? If it's not, and it based on just pod racing or one planet's scenery from newer star wars, it will be a big dissapointment. Please don't use excessive CGI. CGI along with physical models, like the original star tours is best. I hope it still feels like classic Star Wars. For the love of god, I don't want jar jar binks popping out during my ride experience.
I am really hoping for the best.

I like the Starspeeder-thing in Space more than this Podracers, but let's wait for what's coming!

To my understanding, they are keeping all of the original screens, and playing a different tour on each one. I'm not sure if you get to choose which screen you want to view or if you are just sent to a gate (like you do now, with the original Star Tours).
Again, this is only my understanding. It could all be totally different. However, I am more than certain there will be different tours, not all played on the same sitting.

I would prefer that the new Star Tours harkened more to the original three films. This "new" clip already looks out-dated. I fear that when this new version has been out for a year people will prefer the old version again.

T.T If they so much as TOUCH Rex, I will kill them all. As long as Rex stays I'm alright with it. I think that they should make it so each Star Speeder goes somewhere different, similar to how Indiana Jones goes through a different door each ride. Like, to Hoth, or Tatooine. (Haha I'm not much of a Star Wars geek, I know 3 planets/moons, Endor, Hoth and Tatooine, from the ride, and the psoters in the exit hallway.)

Well, Star Tours at Disneyland is now closed. On its last day, I was in the very last group of people that rode one final time during regular park hours. It was awesome!
I'm looking forward to the new version, and remember everyone, the ride will NOT just be a pod race, there will be multiple destinations. :-)

I'm pretty sure there will be more than the pod race...but for me, the highlight of Star Tours was always the trench run of the death star - no space battle in Eps 1-3 can compare to that! I think the iconic space ships of star wars were really from eps 4-6, so it's hard to think of other scenes from eps 1-3 that would make the new ride as exciting. Too bad they can't have both rides though, like 2 simulators for each at Disneyland

Any true Star Wars fan would rather be part of the Death Star battle from the original Star Wars movie (A New Hope) than be part of the pod race from The Phantom Menace. The trench run is essential. Even a casual fan would prefer being in a space battle. If Disney wanted to improve the original Star Tours attraction by making the Death Star battle more realistic and believable, that would be great! Here is hoping that Star Tours II is more than just a pod race.

Luckily I have had a resent opportunity to say good bye to the classic star tours that I knew and grow up with. Still, I find it hard to believe they have to get rid of such a great ride. Star tours 2 better be a working title, because that isn’t going to make any since if there’s not going to be a star tours 1 anymore. Why not do what they did with the Tiki Room, and keep the old ride in Disney land, but put the new one in Disney world?
