If you are really counting on some piece of machinery to to adjust your flash automatically you might as well switch your camera to Auto. This is not for real photographers. I'll bet you a 100,000 dollars that most of the model-lying-by-the-pool photos so far have been taken without a pocket wizard. So, learn your manual settings and don't spend on BS devices. This is how you can be a great photographer.
works okay with one 580exII, but intermittently. And try and do something with two flashes or more and it is nothing but frustrating. It simply doesn't work reliably. Piece of crap. Unfortunately I bought two of the flex 5 and one mini. Mini is usually fine firing off my other strobe units such as dyna lights. Problems, problems using them with the canon flashes. Disappointed big time.
We have always been fans of Pocket Wizard. Not any more!
Testing a Mini TT1 and Flex5 and running tests using 580 EXII flash units we found the usable rang to be less than 20ft! Even then, we were experiencing power dumps and pre flash only on about half of the shots we took.
All this is a far cry from PWs claim of a 1600 ft range with full ETTL
The bottom line is this is a product that has been rushed to market, big on hype and poor on performance
no it does not work with 580esx and has issues for with the 430 ex 2, if you got to B&H or pocket wizards site there is a disclaimer saying it may have issues. the old plus 2 is fine and cheaper.
hey jeff, that vid really helped me! i am wondering tho, that ultra high sync, does it really works with a regular 580EXII and my 40D body? or do i need 5D or higher body to do it? thanks!

@Kkunchev You can still shoot manually using a pocket wizard. It seems like a good wireless way of triggering your off-camera flash.

Great video, but that's too much money, you can do some of the same thing for a lot cheaper.

@RLJSlick Like what? What cheaper option would you recommend?
sethx9 1 year ago
@sethx9 Nikon CLS :D but agree pocket wizard is better because you don't have to see the flash.
