jason becker is the best guitarist ive ever heard and even in a wheelchair he still kicks hammetts ass and did u know jasons illness is the same as stephen hawking and hes had als for 30 years so hopefully jason will be cured in a few years scientists need to stop trying to find higgs boson and find out how to cure jason becker so we can worship his great music again and god got jealous of jason and stepehen hawkings talent so he hexed them bad god
Or because playing an electric guitar with distortion is his preference. I, as many other people, are very annoyed by people who seek out other musicians mistakes(in this case it's not even a mistake) because they're jealous, and makes it even more obvious by having to put their thoughs in the comment section. @kungfudragon99 He got some kinda crazy neurological disease if I'm not mistaken. He's completely paralyzed. He still makes music through some kind of crazy system. You should check out the video that explains all of that.
All who posted anything negative about this video or Jason, just go ahead and realize you know nothing about real music. Neither you or I will ever be half as good as this man. ALS or not. You should go along with the rest of your kind(sheep) and listen to the radio. -True story.
@IxMAKExUxGOxLOL this video was in the 80s, on shitty equipment not up to par with todays awesome thousand dollar axes.. I think the very fact that he did it so brilliantly in those times when it was more of an underground thing is what makes Jason Becker such a transcendental musician
@superdanlewis checked it out. i'm sure it would have seemed a little better if i didn't watch it immediately after seeing becker perform it. you got the speed and everything, but i think it sounds kind of sloppy. i know part of it is because of the quality of the video, but you seem a little.... rushed. you still played it a hell of a lot better than i can though.
@skater7744 ok, but if you listen to the violin version it is actually even faster than that, and i was trying to match it. Thanks for watching it though
@widemovie It doesn't make someone ignorant or an idiot to state their own personal opinion. I just personally believe that Jason's songs are far more deep, melodic and complex than Malsteen's. I respect your opinion and even though I don't necessarily agree I'm not going to start ridiculing you,,,
@mfitzster This is one of the first videos I saw him live. I was impressed, but like you I didn't quite feel move by his playing in this this piece. Check out Black Stallion Jam, Becker-Ola, Blue, Altitudes ( I highly recommend this one!), or his instrumental stuff he composed while completely paralyzed like end of the beginning, empire, higher, rain, life and death. When I first heard him I thought he was interesting, but after listening to more of his playing he is now my personal favorite!
@theclaw195 I know and that's a huge tragedy, but his music is immortal and will never be forgotten. Just Josh Chrisitian from Toxik is the only shred virtuoso who plays like Becker. Check out Toxik album Think This - one of the best prog albums ever made, i think the solos will impress you.
@FiddlerAdam There are thousands of music performance competitions around the world...and I laugh at them. Besides, those are good for promoting and spreading music and getting listeners excited about it. I guess music is competitive as far as money and consumers go.
poor jason these days. I think his disease came from musical- burn-out- syndrome or someething. there is scientific evidencs that you can overtrain your brain causing your brain to stagnate in different things. i think there is some link between jason's disease and his superhuman skills on guitar because of over motivation and practising the brain to overload......
I spoke to some kids today that haven't heard of Jason!! Let them here some stuff from Cacophony which blew their minds : -). For me Jason was influenced by Yngwie which is obvious but his tone and expression eventually became far better then Yngwies. Not to mention that his melody range is far broader.
@goodygoody23 Unfortunately nowadays he's not better than me at guitar =/ call me a douche and all that stuff I dont care I have much respect for him but I think that he was betrayed that beast that some call god.....
@goodygoody23 LOL that was funny...but if it took 18 years to god kill him it reveals that god is not that powerful...someone like him would kill Nietzsche right on the spot (and dont come with that bulshit that god isnt a killer)... so god doesnt exist, at least for me and what I was refering to in the first comment was actually fate...genetic of course...
@FlackVendetta I'm not going to get into an Internet fight over religion. I came here for Jason's music and I will leave here with only Jason's music in my head.
@goodygoody23 Thumbs up if you think goodygoody23 is an attention-whore who thinks that a few "Likes" on an extremely stupid and half-baked comment will make him popular on the internet.
ey ey ey what h plays at 0:08(more less) is in the crossroads solo(in the final guitrr battle) and i thought it was from steve vai....(someone cn explain me please lol)
@LydianHarmony No, I'm pretty sure it's Paganini's 5th Caprice. It -does- say at the start the video before he starts playing. I'm sure he would've had a hand in correcting it if it were wrong.
Lydian you must be trolling. The easiest way to clear this up would be to just look Paganini's 5th caprice up. There is a comparison between Jason and a violinist playing it in the suggestion box. Steve vai pretty much just played his version of the caprice in the Crossroads battle.
@thomykosta wtf are YOU talking about? Jason Becker is not the best guitar player in the world! Of course there are people better than him! I mean, he is sure one of the best, but not the best! Steve Vai and Paul Gilbert are way better than him, for example!
Jason didn´t learned to play guitar...guitar learned to express those WOUNDERFUL melodies JASON had inside him! There´s NO ONE like him......NO ONE!!!!!
Nope, comparing Jason to Lane is not even a good match. Two entirely different playing styles. The best song ever written is probably Altitudes, and no one will match Jason if you gave them an eternity. Jason has.Your comparing Neo-classical shred to Jazz fusion. It's like comparing a banjo to a violin...
Jason Becker's guitar playing is great. He isn't "better" than Malmsteen or Vai; music isn't a contest. It's an art, not a sport. All the guitarists mentioned in comparisons here are unique and talented in their own right. It's sad that ALS took away Jason's ability to play guitar, but I think it's extremely fortunate that he made the contributions to guitar music that he did in the short time he had to do it.
@sonicslaughter do you think malmsteen and vai were as good as him back in the late 80s, its a tough call. Anyway, its hard to say that they are better than jason becker because that implies that your comparing malmsteen and vai to jason becker. There is a major difference between them which explains why you might say they are better than jason becker. Steve Vai and malmsteen were able reach their full potential, whereas jason becker never had the chance to because of his disease.
@tomsey6 Jason Becker's compositions are masterpieces in and of themselves. Jason Becker has inspired thousands of people to pick up the guitar and learn to play. And I don't believe that Neo-Classical Metal is the genre you want to be listening to if you want smoothness. It's sharp, heavy and distorted, it's the nature of the genre. His sound isn't clean in this video, that's true, but not every guitarist always has the greatest sound. Jason Becker is one of the most talented guitarists ever.
yngwie isnt cleaner than jason....this is on a practice amp with a portalble home video camera made in the 80s......lmao listen to jasons stuff in the studio and live, more technical, unique than yngwie and cleaner
@goodygoody23 Have you heard Far beyond the sun and Black star? I mean, Air is a cool song. But it's not that big of an accomplishment. Not like it's the best song ever written xD
@goodygoody23 He's so influenced by Yngwie in the sound. Best Yngwie Rip-off of all time. Great songs both =) But Yngwie is the original :) Funny thing is, Yngwie gets alot of shit because he plays fast most of the time. This is the same. Too much sweepings.
@kranen1 Well this is someone else's piece. Yngwie just plays minor arpeggios. Becker has played about every scale I've ever heard. Listen to Perpetual Burn all the way through, he covers everything.
@goodygoody23 Yeah, Perpetual Burn is a great album. I think Yngwie wants to play like he does, and doesn't care to much about other genres or what people think of him.
@jew25624 Are you serious? Becker was not the best player ever, there's no such thing. I would rank Yngwie, Vai, Gilbert and the best of them all, Shawn Lane higher. Becker had a great technique and great speed, but he was surpassed in every way by Lane. In composition aswell. Then we have Govan and other players. It's about taste. But one thing is for sure. If you practise your ass off you could be as good as Yngwie, Gilbert or Becker. But nobody will ever match what Lane did. He was unique.
@tomsey6 To be fair, here he is playing in his bedroom at 17 years of age, on a shitty practice amp with no effects apart from crude distortion. If you hear the original violin version of this Caprice, you'll hear that its pretty much a note for note transcription that he has worked out. Not easy.
I agree about Yngwie being cleaner, but composition wise, Becker is the man. Tracks like Altitudes, Air, End of The Beginning are simply incredible, and show great musical maturity at a young age.
@MrSpinaterer sorry for the long ass wait on a response. Steve Vai was arranging classical music for guitar around the same age, if not earlier then jason becker. He was transcribing Zappa's music at 18 dude.

Steve Vai and malmsteen were able reach their full potential, whereas jason becker never had the chance to because of his disease.

@sonicslaughter That didn't stop him he's still writing. He just has his friends record it.

10 seconds before the video was rolling, you know he was like "hey steve vai, kiss my ass, this is how you do it."

@TerrorizerGrindspeed Becker maybe was a better sweep picker than Yngwie, but nothing more, sry man.

@kranen1 Better composer...
goodygoody23 6 months ago
@goodygoody23 Have you heard Far beyond the sun and Black star? I mean, Air is a cool song. But it's not that big of an accomplishment. Not like it's the best song ever written xD
kranen1 6 months ago
@kranen1 Both are decent songs but don't hold a candle to Altitudes or Concerto.
goodygoody23 6 months ago
@goodygoody23 He's so influenced by Yngwie in the sound. Best Yngwie Rip-off of all time. Great songs both =) But Yngwie is the original :) Funny thing is, Yngwie gets alot of shit because he plays fast most of the time. This is the same. Too much sweepings.
kranen1 6 months ago
@kranen1 Well this is someone else's piece. Yngwie just plays minor arpeggios. Becker has played about every scale I've ever heard. Listen to Perpetual Burn all the way through, he covers everything.
goodygoody23 6 months ago
@goodygoody23 Yeah, Perpetual Burn is a great album. I think Yngwie wants to play like he does, and doesn't care to much about other genres or what people think of him.

@kranen1
yngwie is better then the best guitarist ever alive? ehhh that doesnt make that much sense i dont believe
jew25624 6 months ago
@jew25624 Are you serious? Becker was not the best player ever, there's no such thing. I would rank Yngwie, Vai, Gilbert and the best of them all, Shawn Lane higher. Becker had a great technique and great speed, but he was surpassed in every way by Lane. In composition aswell. Then we have Govan and other players. It's about taste. But one thing is for sure. If you practise your ass off you could be as good as Yngwie, Gilbert or Becker. But nobody will ever match what Lane did. He was unique.

@kranen1 Yngwie is a machine, Jason's a true musician, genius I say.
konsza 6 months ago
@konsza I would not call Yngwie a machine. But players like MAB could fall under that category ^^
