I reckon that when you were about to kill him, you must've dropped your knife onto him thus grabbing your pistol at the same time. His armor must've sent out a wave of energy on his death( A blast similar to the shock sent out after an armor lock) The blast sent you sprawling across the floor, killing you in the progress. Definately the most random suicide though.

when you went for the assassination, the other guy's armor exploded which caused a rip field in our reality. then the knife was instantly warped out of reality due to the rip field and is replaced by your pistol. The pistol's own polarity was altered by the sudden crossing of dimensions and was transported at light speed to your hand as it was sucked to where the rip field had been opened, but just as it arrived the rip field ended causing you to be blown backward.

This exact same thing happened to me earlier today in team snipers on the cage. (Except I still got the assassination medal but still counts.) I was about to get to the top of the tower, i tried to assassinate a guy in my way, and the announcer guy called it a suicide when i died. Messed up. I know how you feel.

I think its the same as what happens with the sword lunge, because ur lunging forwards towards the enemy during the assassination your traveling at speed and its the little railing thing infront of you that kills you, if you watch at 1:10 the animation stops just as the knife would go through him and if it had done you would of been stabbing him into that ledge so i guess the game glitched making your assassination happen slightly out of bounds either that or bungie was just bored

What happened is after you killed him his leg kicked backwards and splattered you. He was a dead body so it counted as an object, and you put it in motion so it counted as a suicide.

Dude, the same happened to me, only the comentator called it a suicide. I still got the assassination medal though. A friend of mine got a showstopper on himself. That's one step further. My theory behind all of this is that lag makes you "hit" yourself as you're assassinating (or being assassinated).
