When i was in highschool we had ties as part of our uniform and my friend always was really picky about his knot. It had to be like a thick fat knot for him to like it ha idk why but he did. Winsor knot is the one i like to go with and the most common probably.

I have no knowledge of sewing etc. I woke up 8 days ago and decided that this year I'd make myself a tie. Ever since I've just been looking at how to do it. This is a good video and quickly goes through everything. I am looking to use silk, but for a first attempt I'm going to cut some old material up, then try not to butcher up the fabric and interfacing. Does anyone which silk is best used for a tie?

some guys at my school tie the tie backwards do the shinny part is on top. they also make it really short and put the long end in there shirt. they call it the tiny tie. lol.

When stitching up the neck tie at the very end, you can get away with a single thread. The double thread is more "home-made" and if done correctly, the single thread will hold up just as strong. it makes it more couture. Also, I'd recommend using a poly thread and not a 100% cotton thread.

Im a Nursing student. And we all have to wear scrubs. Im the only one that sews in my class, and I made all my own scrubs. I have about 8 pairs not. They are the most awesome amazing things on the planet. I am the only nurse I know rocking scrubs with dancing skeletons.

I got my patterns from the Fabric store and altered them to how l like them. There are a lot of nice womens ones. Your best bet is to take and old pair and seam rip them apart and use that as a pattern. And for fabric go look in the quilting section for the neat fabrics, they work the best. Check out the threadbanger boxer/corset tutorial. You could lengthen the boxer legs to scrubs length, and omit the fly. I've made two pairs from the video, and the pattern making tutorial is uber simple!

As far as I know, most schools that require uniforms also have pretty severe restrictions on accessories, hairstyles, make-up, and shoes. Depending on the school, people could get in trouble for "personalizing" their look which isn't a good back to school experience. Just a word of caution...

She puts the pins in the wrong direction. You shouldn't go the direction you are sewing, it gets difficult when using a sewing machine. But them the opposite way so you don't have to worry about them getting stuck. The needle will slide right over it since it's the other way.

When I couldn't have a shorter skirt with my school uniform, I took mine in so it was more of a pencil shape. Also, sew some hidden pockets into your jumper/blazer so you can stash all of your jewellery if an inspection's coming up.
