@livefreeordie98 My sister was 12 at that time in Chicago that loved the beatles. (Surprised she was not at that concert w/her go go boots on?) I was 6 but I wonder? What theater was this? Auditorium Theater?
I was 8 years old then. My mom took me on the bus to see them but when we got there they told her with being too young I better not go inside. Oh well to make up for it I have been to Englland and all the beatles sites, even met him once. He was sweet to me. Nice memories...
This is great footage! Lucky person that got to sit this close or at least zoom the camera to capture this! I love the part that George waves directly into the camera. So great!
What a treasure! Wouldn't it be great to go back in time with a camcorder and tape the beatles in Hamburg or in the Cavern! It would be worth millions.
Wow. I have seen nearly every video of the Beatles but never this one. This is a really rare video and a valuable part of Beatles history. Thanks for posting!
Christ! You should sell this video. You would make lots of money. It's easy for me to criticize, about how it was filmed, but you were filming history...which makes this video really valuable.
When I first watched this clip, I thought the sound had been dubbed in from a bootleg audio source to the home movie footage. Then I realized it must have been Super 8 sound film. I didn't even know Super 8 sound equipment existed until the mid-'70's. What an incredible piece of footage!! Thanks again.
I was there and it was just so incredible and my ears and eyes took a while fo recover from all the screaming and lights. I doubt very many of the pics that were taken turned out that well. At that time, the technology wasn't great...unless you were a professional photographer and could afford a good camera.
Well, i believe the beatles were thieves,i remember a picture of one of them, mabey paul, was at the top of the stairs to the airplain, and he had a armfull of blues records.
john stole one of his first guitars, i think it was only his second one. people dont realize the beatles were kind of punks... taking pills, buying whores, taking more pills, and penicillin....
44 years ago tonight - I was 8 years old and stood outside the Chicago Amphitheater with my parents (and hundreds or thousands of others) while my sister and her friends were inside watching this concert. Her ticket was $5 and she was not that far from the stage. The screaming was loud and clear, and at one point the main door opened and you could hear the drums. So close......! I was a kid but I could tell, that at that moment in time that was THE place on earth to be!
Sure brings back a flood of memories of that time. I was in high school in 1964 so I was caught up in the Beatlemana. I, unfortuneately, never had an opportunity to see the Beatles in concert.
Of course we see Chicago's finest moving the lads right along off the stage. I was born in Chi-town but too early for this concert--I was only 3 years old--still a viper in a diaper:)
its so cool to see them in color! i would be so happy if i was alive then to see them live yet i would be happy to be in one of the coolest eras in american history...
brabon - Your comment is so stupid, except for pointing out its stupidity and that you are most likely a male of the lowest sort, it doesn't deserve a response. Most sincerely, ndotgw
I WAS at this concert and will never forget it. My friend said that if we walked down the aisle, down the stairs across from the stage, and just stood there, we would be within in 8 feet of the stage AND Paul McCartney. So we did! Yeah, yeah, yeah!!!!!
Can't imagine their performances with todays sound systems and equipment. They had mic level issues, amps and screaming to deal with. For that matter, what would have Sgt Pepper been like in today's 64 plus track studios instead of just the 4 tracks it was recorded on? 4 tracks and still maybe the greatest album ever recorded!
actually it wouldn't sound as good today. their live performances would sound better, but 4 tracks have a much better sound. everything now days is to perfect that it doesn't even sound like it was done by human. i really think it would take away from their sound and it would end up sounding a little more like todays stuff.
People should really consider going back to the old equipment. it has a nicer sound, and if you can pull off a good record on a 4 track, then that shows you are a good musician.
I Agree. That may sound Like a great idea, you maybe right. But then we'e be moving Backwards. I'm for technology, But I do agree with you. Some of today music just sounds way to perfect.
Try listening to The Beatles On CD and To your Old Beatles record on Vinly.
They were pretty awesome, check out the "Poker Donkey," a song by Tom Slade. It's about "Bad Beats" in the game of life! (just kidding) Does the game of "No-Limit Hold'em" ring a bell?
HOLY CRAP!! That is AMAZING. What an awesome job you did with the edits!!!! Truly a labor of love. I live in Chicago, and have obviously been to the Amphitheater.
Amazing 8mm color. That was fantastic. I actually enjoyed all the jump editing, it added to the craziness just like you always read about on those early tours.
Was this cut up on the original film, or was this edited by you? Either way it's great, but it would be sad if that show wasn't recorded in it's full length...
wow, it's just like being in the front row seeing them in person

If the audio was recorded on the film it is 16mm, not 8mm.

Great footage. Shame it's so choppy. You wouldn't think at the time that you're recording Rock & Roll history.
