I don't know why Joe Dresnok is such a celebrity but according to my cousin who was in the US armed forces during that time, there were many more who defected to North Korea, and are probably still living there. Regardless, give it another 30 years or so, and we here in the West will be the ones living in destitution and the East (China, North Korea, Iran, Pakistan, etc.) will be on the upper side of the economic scale. Amazing how that works.

Iran and Pakistan are hardly rising economic powers, they can't even keep their own country stable. North Korea only worked because they were living off the Soviet Union. The story of Dreznok and Jenkins isn't a political one, although it may have political connotations. It's a personal one, of two men who realized that being a nobody in an army was worse than whatever running into North Korea would bring. This story was well done in that paradigm, rather than making it into any US vs. NK issue.

The story of Dreznok and Jenkins isn't a political one, although it may have political connotations. It's a personal one, of two men who realized that being a nobody in an army was worse than whatever running into North Korea would bring. Yes, vice guide to north korea, very nice. You have to sign a document that you're not bringing anthing like cameras and computers and so on before you enter NK, just like when you enter US, but they allow certain things. Also it's very hard to get to NK, just like in the US. Like a closed country. And the strange things is that UN is monitoring this. NK has grren lands, they can plant, and have cows and so on, but why they don't. If they have nuclear shit, they can have electricity too.

He just doesn't realize what exactly it is that he is missing over here in America. I couldn't imagine defecting over there as a young stupid kid and missing out on my mature years when I have money and freedom to enjoy life. It would be nice to show him a "what if" scenerio and let him wallow in dispair. I would laugh if his son defected to America!

It is no accident that Dresnok's son does not want to marry a Korean. They believe in a mono-ethnic society there. In the North as well as in South Korea. But in the North, foreign diplomats get to keep Korean mistresses, diplomatic immunity North Korean style. So they make his son into a diplomat and would probably marry him off to some diplomat's half Korean bastard child. I think they are grooming him for it. Imagine, that, the diplomat core in North Korea will become a different race!
