I did this same project in an animation workshop. My starting picture was a frog, and my final frame had to be a giant picture of a dragon that someone put literally a half hour of detail into. I made my frog grow and explode into the dragon, with a couple frames that said "BAM" and "POW." Our instructor looked at it and said "Jesus, Chad, what a cop-out."

Ah okay. I take it that was also the frame-rate. Most animations have a frame-rate of about 12-13 pics per second instead of the normal 25. Saves a lot of work and the motion is still fluent.
