  • I hear the ghost john coltrane:)

  • Fantástic....

  • im not a sax player but you play really great :)

  • Brilliant! I'm gonna rent a soprano sax tomorrow from my local music shop for a month; I'll be practicing my ass off for sure each day hopefully. SO EXCITED!!!!!!!!

Youre very good too, i cant wait to find my own sound as you obviously have.

  • it kind of like Coltrane the way he plays i love it

  • Man, I don't wanna sound silly, but your play is very Coltranesk.

    Chapeau.

  • woww,, sounds really great!!!:D

  • Would this be better intended for an advanced sax player? I'm looking forward to playing one of these bad boys. But the tempo and shrills look a bit to hard for me.

  • what mouthpiece you used for?

  • @Delzeriko i play an alto,too and i reallly want a soprano!!!!

  • beautiful..........

  • I'm digging your sound, man. Amazing runs. Your playing is very reminiscent of Coltrane. You have such a command of your instrument and that's very impressive. What's your set up? Horn? Mouthpiece? Reed? I'm learning tenor, but I would like to buy a soprano soon.

  • That looks and sounds more like a sopranino.

  • nooo!!!!!!!!its a soprano

  • I favourited this 2 months ago, and have been back to listen to it many times.

I won't try to get into an analysis of the technique, or the breathing, the make of sax or even the type of mouthpiece or reed. To me that is all irrelevent (and, to be fair, a little beyond me) ... What I know is I like it.

I like it very much ... the way the player seems so at ease (and it come across his the playing) with his instrument, himself and his surroundings ...

    ...Top Marks marksax2003...

  • THANKS :D

  • u have any other saxophones.Just asking i play tenor and i tryed soprano but i find that when i play it gets really squeaky and i dislike the sound. how bout u?

  • i have a tenor and an alto.... hmmm the squeaky sound.... that has to do with the mouthpiece and reed... the tenor and alto they dont squeak that much i think it has to do with what you are used to the most... but yeah in soprano i have a tendency to squeaky but once again it has to do with the reed and mouthpiece you have to find the right size of reed and mouthipiece try fixing the reed size...

  • k thanks i had in alto but i fell in love with the tenor

  • the squeak has to do with, the size of reed, and the skill level... if you just started out on soprano, you really want to start out on a 2 1/2 reed. also things to work on for playing the soprano is always work with a tuner. they tend to play out of tune. one more thing use a lot of air. from what i've seen it you need the air flow of a flautist... good strong and controlled air flow... this is coming from a soprano sax player who has had lessons.

  • i had this problem when i switched between my alto and soprano becasue i only played the soprano during solos. i eventualy just asked the director if i could play the tenor sax part or trupet par and he said yes, its alot harder then you think to switch between 2. but for me anyways after a few mins of playing i got use to the soprano again.

  • i cant seem to get used to it so i just stuck with big ones tenor and baritone i guess soprano just isnt me

  • Much harder to switch between Bari and Soprano like me :) They're just soooo different. But I love them both

  • soprano is hard shit to play

  • i agree!! how far do you have to put your mouth on it?

  • ok skill178 sopranos are used in classical music alot and they are almost always paired with the flutes or clarinets, sometimes they have their oun unique part, usually a solo so they are not only used in jazz and sax groups. marksax you are getting a decent sound. it sound like i did when i started soprano. what will help is opening the back of your throught and taking in a little more mouthpeice. try a new mouthpeice too. i dont know what kind you have but it sounds plastic, try hard rubber.

  • YEAH is plastic, thanks bro!

  • Getting a sweet tone from a soprano is no easy task. I played the instrument for years. Changed the mouth piece twice. It's basicly how much muscle one has on the lip. The more the muscle the sweeter the tone. The Selmer metal mouth piece though helps a lot.

  • I think Soprano's fit Jazz better compared to Classical.

  • sopranos are only used in jazz and groups of sax's only. they cant be used in classical too much because they usely just play a trumpet part and get over powerd by the trumpets. but i do get a small solo with my soprano but its even on the alto sax part because they never even make a soprano part

  • soprano saxes are indeed used for jazz, and some classical/ orchestra pieces, also used as a solo instrument such (now i understand that this artist isn't really an "artist" if you will but he can be classified as a solo jazz saxophonist

  • wow!!

i play soprano saxophone too, but believe it or not, i dont like jazz. i play classical music!! :D have you hadany problems with you lowre notes? for example my C is sometimes rattly/ or the note is slow in comming out. cuse i have a no name brand too :p any advice??

  • =O ^^

  • kudos

  • I am Brazilian, and he would like to tell you that his sound is fantastic. Congratulations! I already included his video as favorite. You play very well. It was worth!!!

  • Man. I dig

  • Wich Sop is that?.Selmer Serie III?.

  • HAHAHAHA I wish it was a selmer. Its a no-brand sax i bought it at ebay for 300 bucks (dollars) but thanks tho. the brand is a schills or something but is a sheap sax from ebay hahaha the sax is falling apart

  • i had one of those man it was a LAVAL but it treated me well until I could afford a better one!!

  • This is tight! Where'd you get the background music?

  • thats a cannoball adderly play along CD cannoball adderly was a very good sax player that lived in the 60's i believe. but if you search ir you might find it. i think the name of the book is "Work Song." Work Song is also one of is good songs.

  • I play alto sax and my band teacher is going to let me play soprano sax. I can't wait to try a different sax, it's been a couple years since I played bari sax, but I prefer the higher saxes.

  • dude i play alto sax and i looooovvvvveeeeeee the soprano. i really like the alto too because in my high school im first chair so i get alot of solo parts and their kind of like jazz solo parts

  • Man, I love it. :D

  • wow i own an alto sax i need to practice for years before i become that good

  • Dude that's so f****** amazing

  • thats pretty amazingg. :D i play tenor and alto, but i wanna play soprano reallyy bad, cuz the higher instrumentss get all the good parts. :D

  • sweet! i got put on the tenor in jazz band and i really love it, but i cant afford one so im buying a soprano instead. but im still going to play the tenor in jazz band ^_^

  • Aren't soprano saxophones more expensive because there's not a lot of them that are made...

  • im getting it for cheaper from somebody whose relative played the soprano and aren quite sure how to price it

  • They are more expensive, because the mechanics are smaller and harder to tune, to correct,....

  • I like your approach and may be you could be a tester for my new invention. I came up with this incredible stretching reed and adjustable mouth piece that ca bu used on a soprano, alto, tenor and baritone sax. I already used it on a gig...the only drawback is that when I switch sax I always miss the first 2 or 4 bars because it takes time to take off the mouthpiece from one instrument and put it on another.

    Ciuccame U'Caz.

  • so the soprano doesn go to A#?

  • ok a low B Flat is the lowest!

  • a b flat is an A#

  • ooh yeeeaaah! duh! i knew that! lol :p

  • lol i nkow you knew that you just wernt thinking straight hehehe

  • Can a soprano sax reach a low F#?

  • Yes, i have seen a F#... but i like Bb

  • I played (the organ) for a wedding---at my church last year--the soprano sax playing cousin of the bride was enlisted to play Trumpet Voluntary with me. I thought "O Jesus how dreadful is this going to be...?"

It turned out to be THE most incredible sound! I really grooved on it!

    MOG

  • nice playing

  • yeah you can play the notes in the right key but that means nothing if you sound like an oboe. and maybe you should try using vibrato!!!!

  • He said his influences were Sonny Rollins and John Coltrane - Coltrane never used vibrato, nor did Sonny.

  • Good stuff! i take it you like the pentatonic scale! :-)

  • you've got some good skills man i'll hand you that but i think you've got to add a little bit more space to your improv. Right now its a little bit too congested. Work on that and you'll be on helluva jazz player

  • aebersold im assuming?

    what tune

  • which piece is this because i want to play this so bad!!1 i have to for this state tryout and i think i can make it with this piece

  • Oh yeahh very very very gooood

  • That was So awsome! I play the alto sax in middle school right now and that was so cool! I love the Blues and Jazz, so bravoh!

  • soprano's are awesome but they have a bit to much of a clarinet sound going on for my taist

    awesome song tho

i don't know if your doing improv or what but it could use a little work

    awesome

  • hes definately improvising and did u mean taste?

  • yeah i was typing kinda fast and didn't catch that

and yeah i sure now that its just the crappy sound and not his playing

  • bravoh!

  • Excellent!

  • Very nice!

  • Awesome, dude! Check out my page. I have a video of myself playing soprano sax too (My Favorite Things from Coltrane). Coltrane and Rollins rule!

  • it would be cool to get a sopranino...

  • nice feel, I can hear the Coltrane thing!

  • DAMn u really like to blow alot!!!!ejjejeje

    Bueana cancion!!!

  • decent

  • Saxophonic is right but you need grades for music colleges and university courses and things like that so really they are important. also this guys pretty good but dunno why you're all raving about him like hes a god, look at the pros and then look at him, no offense mate ur good but not that good.

  • THAT WAS TOTALLY AMAZING! I wish I could play my sax that amazingly. I play alto and totally wish my band director man would let me switch to the Soprano. I will one day switch I WILL CONQUER LOL

  • keep dreaming, there's VERY few band pieces that have soprano...try joining a jazz ensemble, there's more chance there

  • Tis pretty good some bits sound wrong but yea.

  • grades are useless in music, if you can play you can play, some of historys greatests musicians dont care for grades

  • Yes, nice. And when you finally get serious. Try a real profession that'll bring you a steady income (Like Information Technology, or Corporate Law.), and not a jar full of coins at a street corner.

  • what the hell r u tryin 2 say this guy is good!

  • There are plenty of fruitful career oppurtunities in music. Maybe Jazz isn't the best thing to go into, but did he even mention that he was going into it as a career? Bill Clinton plays the saxophone and managed to become president.

  • then again...look how he turned out in the end.

  • :-p True, true. I don't even like the man, but all I was saying is that music is not silly and fruitless. Those who think it is should never listen to music again.

  • Awesome I've just started to learn saxophone, truly inspiring!

  • amazing omg teach me plz how to play key board alto sapran and tener

  • once you learn one sax, you can play the rest...they're all basically the same

  • Amazing! I learn alto, last exam got 141 marks but now I'm waiting for my grade 4 results! Can't wait to learn soprano!!!

  • i like the atmosphere,combinated with this nice sax-playing.

  • Very good job. I really enjoyed listening to this piece.

  • Oh man that is great!!!

  • That is excellent! Keep up the good work!

  • On a scale of 1-10 1 being begginer and 10 being coltrane I give you an 8 :-) I could do better

  • wtf are u smoking. yea hes an 8 but coltane is a 1,000

  • nice... i really like it.. to bad its not more of a concert insturmnet

  • usualy when we do a self record the finishing is very convincing we dont move away from the camera at the very end why this guys so doing baffles me unless its a fake

as anyone with that skill would be a session artist

i am sorry if i am wrong and well done!

  • well its all me bro!!! that is not fake!!! i could always post another video like this of me playing!! also if you could notice from this recording the in tonation is really weak it doesnot have a good proffesional sound that a real proffesional you have!! my high note are not that great and you could also notice that my movement in the finger are accurate!!

  • WOAHHH!!!! ur good maannnn

  • what's the name of this tune?

  • I really dont know! I found it in a cannobal adderly play along! the only song that i know from that cd is work song! the play along is just a burn cd i dont have the music for it!

  • i play the sax too but i could never do that. the coolest type i've played was the bari sax. but only for a couple of weeks. nice job

  • if u are really playing it then its good...if u are just faking it then two words for u ....

  • wow thats really cool I have never seen a soprano.

  • i play saxophone, im pretty good too, but i dont think anyone can compare to this guy! you rock! keep it up!

  • I ain't feeling you dude! Keep working at it though!

  • Nice work! Your a great player! Keep it up! =)

  • Hey man, this is awesome. I'm 22 and I want to learn sax. My main inspiration are Miles Davis. What type of Sax are you playing here? I'm thinking of getting an alto saxophone! Ever hear nofx anarchy camp? What type of Sax is in that song? Anyway, you dont have to answer all of that but let me know what type of sax your playing!

Sounds great. Inspires me to get my own.

  • he is playing the soprano sax.

  • i don't really listen much of these music but i got to admit that u have talent bro..

  • ...thats a sexy saxophone

  • lol.... weird...

  • I don't mean to be critical but I hear a lot of pentatonic/blues runs in your solos. Not that I am any better, but if your true influences are Trane and Sonny, neither of them ran any major pentatonic or blues scales (though Trane did tend to run the minor pentatonic into the ground). Not bad, but watch your tone; soprano is hard, but just be careful with it.

  • This abstract but nice. I'm Inspired and dig a lot

  • it's was great.. k.. y don't u add alittle vibrato.. that would hav make u sound mor pro..!! :b keep it up!

  • I like the modal patterns you're using...pay attention to the tonal quality of your sound...that's just as important as the notes!

  • man now this is the next coltrane! ^^

  • are you in jail??

    j/k its awsome

  • i think the same thing, were you in jail by raping some kid and you had nothing to do ??? naaa you are really good, keep up the good work, eventhough that is the only thing you do

  • Awesome job. Great music bro.

  • i like. great job.

  • Nice job. I have respect for anybody who can draw from Coltrane.
