Eric Martin grew up in the same neighborhood as me. He has been trying so hard for so many years to make it. 415, Eric Martin Band, Mr. Big etc... i've seen him play in dumps and great theatres. I'm happy for him but he wouldn't had the great success w/o Billy and Paul. Deep Purple is one of my favorite bands but I'd like to see Mr. Big avoid covers. Their Who and AC/DC covers are embarrassing.
@MrDuckFuk I think you been fuckin' too many ducks. There is no bullshit anywhere in my comment. You best explain your asshole self. Original tunes are always better. I've Billy Sheehan a billion times and he is the best thing that ever happened to pretty boy Eric Martin. There are lyrics to this, one of the greatest Purple songs ever and EM decides he won't sing? WTF?
@vicenteroma ha, i remember first buying his instructional dvd waaaaay back in the 80's. he's a killer guitar player. i like it when he plays a little more technically. One song I really enjoyed of his was Dream of a New Day (think that's what it was called) on the Bill & Ted's soundtrack.
Billy Sheehan is a god. That is all. Ritchie Kotzen is not bad, but Billy is why this video rocks! IMO, anybody who dogs Billy for his playing style is just jealous that they have not a whit of his talent, vision, and skill. That is all.
The bass solo with the last bend on the last fret is just dumb, and out of tune. If you wanted to play guitar, don't play bass. Also the guitarist is out of time in his solo, eats notes.
I love Deep Purle, but this is a senseless showcase of instrumental techniques.
That's the main difference between a musician and an artist.
@felphero I can say, with a lot of conviction, that tecnically they're on the same level... but Richie can play and master any style in the world, besides he's an amizing singer... they certainly manage different techniques, as string skipping goes with Paul and legatto goes better with Richie... but Richie my friend, is the overall winner.... such a MO-JO!!!
actually from a purist point of view kotzens solo as well as malmsteen on another cover of this tune are both plain rubbish way too much noodling dont sound right ritchie does it best or for the sake of covers check doug aldrich on whitesnake still of the night video 2006 burn opening song, i will have to say the sheehan part here smokes
everytime, every singel time i watch this video and watch Billy Sheehan play this on hes bass i get the chills and goosebumps all over my boddy! fukkn EPIC!!

@pololopo23 Have you missed the last 25 years?Sheehan played with David Lee Roth and Steve Vai and Greg Bissonette on drums in the 80s following the Van Halen falling out,Later he and Paul Gilbert joined forces in Mr Big.
Wow dude. Someone fill me in. Is this the Paul Gilbert days? Never knew the band was this talented. The bass player shreads. And its real refreshing to see them to a great DP cover
As much as I love Pats playing, and he really killed here,Ian Paice is so incredible on this tune, that you miss him!! I STILL love this version though!!!
@pmarchino I have 2, and actually they can sound like any guitar you want if you know how to install the right pickups and how high or low to adjust the bridge. I have one that sounds identical to a Strat, and another that sounds like a Gibson Les Paul. It is all in the pickups, humbuckers, single or double coil, extra piezo, whatever.
Ive had the pleasure of seeing Sheehan with some of guitars greatest players onstage with Malmsteen while with Talas back in the mid 80s then early this centery withSteve Vai Dave Weiner and axe god Tony Macalpine hes just got jaw dropping talent not many better playing metal or progressive rock.
