People who say they think metallicas version is better, not even metallica think its better thats why they covered it, they cover songs which they love as a tribute. And for the record, 1 album was dave mustaine (kill em all) and 1 cover album, was obviously full of covers. Not half their catalogue idiot. Metallica changed from heavy metal to hard rock for a few album, so what? The songs are still awesome and they did something different, not stay the same for 30 years.

It's absolutely genius what Thin Lizzy did here - took a traditional, "diddly-aye" Irish song and rearranged it to make a great-sounding rock song. A lot of people prefer Metallica's version but, while they did put their own heavier spin on it, they basically just recreated Thin Lizzy's masterpiece.
