Good lord... that's complicated to start. I always like the J85 start: Crew chief hooks up air to the engine, when you hit 13% rpm, press the ignition button and move the throttle to idle. So much easier.
I REALLY wish Cessna would make this product today. P210, RG, Cantilever Wing, turboprop. This is my dream GA aircraft, but the existing fleet of P210 are now old and needing a lot of care, and the turboprop versions are all converted, so they are hard to find and expensive, *sigh* and dream on...
I saw that and wondered what it was even before I read your comment.
At first I thought it was something that had been caught up in the prop wash but after slowing the video way down it is clear that it was a part of the aircraft.
If the plane is fresh from a repaint it could have been masking tape...but that is not what it looked like.
I thought a "hot-start" was bad, meaning like fuel was dumped to early or something like that and the engine ate up some type of gear and spit hot broken pieces of metal out the exhaust. Could anyone tell me if they know what im trying to say? haha
@Duhello88 I hear ya. I was always taught that a hot start was bad. It was over-temp or something like that. Hung start was going too slow.... Hot start was going too fast and going over temp... =) you're not crazy.
@dronald777 It really isn't hard. I was 20 when I started flying Cessna Caravans. At the end of the day it's just another engine in another aircraft :)
Conversion allows for more airframe stress, powerplant is much more powerful, prop is stronger...etc. The gauges though, remain the same from prior to conversion.
until I heard you say "hit the condition lever" I always thought fuel was introduced into the engine automatically.. or that it was already there and just ignited... Didn't know you spin up then dump fuel into the engine
thks for the reply youngest pilot. wasnt sure why but knew there mustve been a logical explanation. does anyone know what the rolls royce conversion is gonna be provided u already have the 210?
@Mr308winmag A new engine – Rolls-Royce 250-B17F/2
But it isn't as simple as removing the old and bolting in the new. The whole airplane is completely striped down, the frame is re-enforced, all interior is removed refurbished, new avionics are added to compliment the extreme redundancy of what you might expect from an airplane of such caliber.
Go to O&N's website for a complete rundown or contact Bob Nicolas in message.
question. is he serious about the odd and even fuel pumps? I'm a low time private pilot approx.300 hrs. and would love to fly turbo props and i've never heard of that. Somebody please tell me if that's just a stupid question.
@youngestpilotinGa Selecting the ODD or EVEN fuel pump based off of the date is actually more than just a "preference thing", it is to make sure that the last time that you operated the fuel pmps on the airplane &since the fuel tnks are "cross-fed" frm wing to wing, you wld select the alternative to what you chose the day before. This airplane was being started with a "Hot Start" meaning it had been run earlier AND it had more than likely been run the day b4, selecting the ODD wing 4even flow.
Great video, i really enjoyed watching your hot start procedure, it was very interesting. These O&N Silver Eagle P210's look great. Hopefully we will have a few operating in Australian airspace one day.

Do you adjust throttle like in a piston aircraft to control speed, or do you just feather the props? I've always wondered that

Just out of curiosity - what is the 10-12 inch long metallic-looking rod/strip that departs from your tail section at 5:08?

With all of those 530's and that huge one on top, whats the purpose of that GPS on the yoke?

@chipjumper Its 2 430's, 530 on top, and a 296 on the yoke. I have no idea what the purpose is.
