Do you think i could drill some maybe about .5''-1'' holes along the frame to reduce weight and solve that condensation issue? or would that reduce the strength?
Im not exactly sure which parts of the steel tubing are stressed the most throughout the tube so i dont really know where i would be able to and would not be able to drill.
And a three piece crank probably is a good idea would one fit into my bottom bracket? or are they special?
Thanks again for posting on bentrider, appreciate it!
@triketrek11 Just small weep holes at the low points of the frame where water can accumulate. There is also product called "Frame Saver." It's an aerosol, spray can with a little plastic hose that you can stick in the weep holes and coat the inside of the frame. I wouldn't drill holes in the frame to lighten it. It could weaken it.
I would take your bottom bracket shell to a bike shop and get a bottom bracket cartridge that will fit. It's a sealed unit and they last a very long time.
Bottom bracket spindles come in different lengths so finding a crankset before you get the bottom bracket cartridge is a good idea. Do you have a local bike shop with a knowledgeable mechanic?
Sweet. thank you for the quick reply. Okay I'll take that bottom bracket shell to the bke shop, ive got one that ive been going to, there very knowledgeable and should be able to find me what i need.
When coating the inside of the frame = do i need to cover the whole inside? Or just the bottom of the frame where im going to drill the weep holes?
@triketrek11 My Pleasure. I and many others are very impressed by your project.
Great Work.
With the little plastic hose that comes with the spray can, spray inside the frame, saturate it and then just turn the frame over and over so the Frame Saver gets all over the inside. Any excess will drain out through the weep holes.
Wait until all welding has been completed before applying the Frame Saver and it will be one less thing you will have to worry about down the road.
Great to see the progress. I was thinking that perhaps small weep holes to deal with possible condensation in the frame.
Also the one piece cranks. The bottom bracket bearings and bearing races on a one piece crank are usually of a pretty poor quality. Not up to a cross country tour. You might want to look at a three piece crank with better bearings and races that will also allow you to change chain rings if need be.

Yo dude. What is the outer and inner diameter of those head tubes and the bottom bracket shell? This is really cool. Good work

It's happening.
Very Cool
