HOLY SHIT, Im just learning about buffing and polishing, but its pretty fuckin obvious that this dude is NASTY at what he does. Im about to attemp my second one the lower forks for my motorcycle. great stuff man, keep the vids coming.
hey man.. ive been polishing for about a year now... ive wanted to try using a rotary sander but my pieces are pretty small (motorcycle parts) and im scared ill gauge them. hand sanding is a bitch though. tips? also what do you use to remove rouge between stages? or do you just take the part from one wheel and go directly to another? i dont want to contaminate my color wheels with cutting compounds.
nice setup you have.. i would love a wheel like that!
@21duramax I use several differant companies, If you tell me what you are working on I can recomend the Co or product that would be best for that job.
Nice work. Polishing must be the filthiest job there is. I was a polisher for a few years and I used to come home black every day.I also used to get some strange looks when purcasing my lunch in town.
I have done some work as a metal polisher here in Australia, I think I was working on the same machine as yours. I used to concentrate on antiques but once polished up a petrol tank and it nearly did my back in! Is that a grinder with a colouring mop? Or is it something else? I liked the wooden boxes around the buffing wheels, very good idea.
Your tools and techniques are far superior to my methods. I polished a volkswagen engine by hand once using t-shirts, some polishing creme, and my fingers. It took days and my fingers hurt for a week.
Lookin' forward to the new MTB video. Keep up the good work.

and what kind of buffer do you have?
how fast does it spin?
montecarlo409 2 years ago
@montecarlo409 My big one is a 5 HP Baldor and I also use a Makita 9227 polisher / grinder.
UncleJimmi 1 year ago
Hi
you seem to know alot about buffers.
who makes a good buffer? I want one that is at least an 8 inch and spins some where around 3600 rpms.
montecarlo409 2 years ago
@montecarlo409 You can bench mount a Makita and on mine I had an extention made for the shaft to get the wheels away from the machine and my fingers.

just one question how do you get in the small areas?
jakalero 2 years ago
@jakalero In many cases I make my own bits and bobs for a die grinder and belive it or not my fingers often do much of the work.
