  • 5:36 OMG my favourite song, "Oh What a Beautiful Morning" From "Oklahoma". I heard this on a clock and was wondering what the tune was, but Peter Mackett Told me!.!

  • In my younger days; the family would go to Idlewild for company and school picnics. We would always met at the carousel. There use to benches all the away around the carousel. This was popular place to stay when it was raining. This video brought back some good memories. Thanks

  • @caliberkid Guess what! Those benches are still there!! I love going to Idlewild on rainy days just to watch/ride the carousel and record the band organs...

  • The Wurlitzan needs a lot of work but the caliola sounds absolutely beautiful

  • Notice that the snare drum on the Wurlitzan sounds amazing but you can barely hear the cymbal (exact opposite of Kennywood, where they have the snare too tight and the cymbal nice and loose

  • I never noticed before, but the caliola sits up on top of a raised platform

  • I might be working at idlewild this summer so i might be able to get a vid of the Wurlitzan playing the "The Witch Doctor" (BTW, sounds like they need to clean the tracker bar lol)

  • What is the name of the song being played.

  • @CoreyD1086 Which one was playing it? The WurliTzer 103 band organ or the smaller WurliTzer Calliola?

  • @woodencoasterfan the band organ. Right when you cut to the merry go round playing. Not what is on the CD

  • @CoreyD1086 The first tune (after the pictures) is On the Beach, the second tune isa macrh called Under the Double Eagle. They were both being played on a WurliTzer 103 band organ.

  • @CoreyD1086 side walks of new york

  • sorry, THe calliola was playing a medley of " Oklahoma"

  • @anglerfly That may be, but wasn't Oklahoma written by Rogers & Hammerstine?

  • @woodencoasterfan I dont know

  • @woodencoasterfan YES! Oklahoma WAS written by Rogers and Hammerstine! I never saw it! I have always prefred The Music Man an Les Mis.

  • To be Honest with you, this is the Well Known Oklahoma Medley, written by Rogers and Hammerstine.

  • what about in the second part of dongs

  • who is that woman and that kid that sat on the carrage

  • @lilybelle20000 You go me, cause I have no idea. Also the song names are listed in the description as well as in the comments left by other viewers. I do know that the tune being played on the WurliTzer Caliola is a medley of songs from some of the Broadway plays that were produced by Rogers and Hammerstein.

  • could you name the songs

  • WHO is coasterjunkie?

  • @anglerfly Sorry to dissappoint, but I preffer to remain annonymous.

  • @woodencoasterfan Sorry I thought coasterjunkie is a group.

  • @anglerfly No problem :)

  • This is one of my favorite carousels! I enjoyed visiting it when the NCA was in Pittsburgh in 2005

  • @louellasnugglebunny It is a beautiful carousel. But my favorite is th Dentzel Carousel at Kennywood Park which is about 30 minutes west of this park.

  • 0:00 the sidewalks of new yok wurliTzer 153

1:07 on the beach wuriTzer 103 2:10 under the double eagle march wurliTzer 103 4:40 r&h medley

  • Why does it have drums? the 103

  • As far as I know, most WurliTzer band organs have drums.

  • WUrliTzxer 103 doesn't

  • I was just going by what the NCA (National Carousel Association) website says and they say that this carousel has a WurliTzer 103 with a Artizan facade as well as having a WurliTzer Calliola.

  • The arTizan D organ sounds like a 105 and 104 so maybe it is the arTizan

  • The first one is on the beach or sabre and spurs

  • Whats the name of the tune the calliola is playing?

  • I'm not shure what the name of the tune is. But I do know it's a medley of songs from different Broadway shows from Rogers & Hammerstine.

  • Isn't this the Caliola playing? Does the Artizan organ still exist somewhere?

  • Yes it does. I think other places have an artizan style D band organ.

  • Yes the Caliola is still playing, unfortunately, I don't know the fate of the Artisan organ.

  • Why is the artizan organ happen tosound like a 103?

  • Well, that's because it is a Wurly 103. It's a shame they didn't keep the original organ as I would have loved to hear it play. But atleast there's still a real organ there, and no a recording of one.

  • Why does it have drums?

  • is it just me ore does the organ sound a bit weak?.

  • Organs are like that, or Is it because It is out of tune

  • Comment removed

  • Tune 2 Under the double eagle March.

  • @petermackett37 Tune one on the beach march.

  • Man, I haven't been to Idlewild Park in years -- thanks for posting this!

  • No problem, glad you liked it :)

  • Nice video.

  • It is high time that somebody puts a D back on a carousel where it belongs. All of the four original D organs that I know of are in private collections. Only one is trailer-mounted and occasionally seen at band organ rallies.

This D facade should have an original organ chassis put back behind it, not the Wurlitzer 103 which, though a decent organ, is too small and shrill for this carousel.

If you want to hear D music right now, the Frati organ at Knoebels (on Youtube) plays D rolls.

  • Yeah, I thought that facade seemed a bit large for the Wurlitzer 103.

  • I agree. OK, someone has finally uploaded a video of an actual original Artizan D organ to Youtube. Just search "Artizan Style D Band Organ".

  • there is a D at Clark's Trading Post in Lincoln, NH that the public can listen to. They play it between train rides, alternating between it and their W146.

  • The first tune played by the 103 sounds like a European march, possibly German. Since Mike Kitner arranged at least one European roll for this scale, I wouldn't be surprised if it is.

I have to say, that 103 sounds extremly dinky behind that giant Artizan D facade! The Artizan model D was the largest regular-production organ in the Artizan line, and the arrangements on the rolls can be wonderful. Carrousel Music offers recordings of "Lindy", a D formerly owned by Allan Stafford of PA.

  • I recognize the opening music in your stills. It is "The Sidewalks of New York", as played on Bill Black's Wurlitzer 153 organ, on one of his "Carrousel Music" recordings.

  • The first tune playing on the organ (in the video, after the stills) is the march "On The Beach."

  • Thanks for the info, I appreciate it :)

  • According to the NCA census: "b/o Wurl 103 w/Artizan façade; Wurlitzer Calliola."

The first tune on the organ sounds classical, the second is "Under the Double Eagle." The Calliola is indeed playing R&H music.
