I went to see this with my eighth grade class back in Febuary, this is what got me into loving such fine acting. I intend on interning at ASF in college :3
Actually, the idea of a black woman sewing together a Confederate battle flag is not all the far-fetched at all.
During the war the flag were made by women who worked for the Confederate ordinance department. Many of those employees were black women of color (slaves and freedmen...er, women).
So in a way, the originals of the very Confederate battle flags that hate groups love to misuse and dirty with their hateful rhetoric were sewn together by black hands!
The actress playing the part is very cute and seems to be made for the role in a way....oh and not to be a nit-picker about historical details, but the flag she is sewing is in fact the First Confederate National Flag (also known as the Stars and Bars) not the battle flag itself.
ALABAMA!
