I live in Sannah Ga. I was cutin' class one day back in the 70's.. waiting for my friend to come out of a lil' dontown "juke-joint" I'm sitting in my 1971 Red 455/ho 4sp Trans am and I hear this guy say " hey wanna sell that car "...
I look over and it was Burt Reynolds . He was just standing there drinking a Coke. He was in Savannah making a movie called Gator. I said, " no sir !! " He says "good boy , now show me what she's got " ...so I did a burn out for "The BandiT"...very cool ...and true
@rayrayholland damn i hate you and admire you at the same time HAHA just kiddin. wow that must've been great! I really want to own a Bandit Trans Am and that would be my dream to show it to Burt Reynolds.
@rayrayholland LOL Very cool. My mother looked like Sally Field back in the 70s. She was even asked for autographs a few times. Wonder what people thought when they saw that she signed it Nora. lol The 70s were just fun in general.
@rayrayholland Let me ask you a couple questions? How can someone who lives in Savannah spell "Savannah" wrong. And in 1971 Trans Am's were either painted Blue or White. Trans Am's weren't painted red until 1973!
@rayrayholland ...Simple Dude ..I repainted my Bird Bucaneer Red because I like it. And I do have live in S A V A N N A H..... all of my life. Can't you excuse a guy for typing SAVANNAH wrong even once ...Gee whiz..
@rayrayholland And I'm sure you hit it off with Lonny also?,,,, Yeah Right! Sounds like you have been watching Dazed and Confused ! Thats' Cool 'Ol Man , take it easy!
@BOURBONJULIO ..Haha !! No. The guy he was stand ing next to was Jerry Reed, but I didn't notice . When I did the burnout,..I was so excited that I left my friend standing there. He said Jerry and Burt busted out laughing. They went back inside and kept filming a scene. The place was called "Hard Hearted Hanna's" (a real place) They turned it into a weird strip joint later and it was in the movie-- Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil.
@Soleniak u know the whole reason of the trans am was to make it go faster and better options then the firebird which is why they were created belive me they got balls i own 1978 Trans Am (gold not black)
Yes but you could also get the Firebird Formula that had all the go fast parts without the frills or the higher price of the Trans Am. A friend of mine has both a Trans Am and a Formula from the 70's and they are both as fast but the TA is a little more bearable to ride in on long trips.
@coldh2ocarp... i agree. jackie gleason is the one that made this movie. true legend in comedy. you should see his older stuff and stand up. its great. without jackie gleason as the "villian" this movie might not have done soo well.
@MGoffer i think they all had the right parts thats what made this movie great...Jacky ...jerry ..Burt ..sally the characters fit very well..one of the great movies of all times along with American Grafitti ..Gumball Rally and Gone in 60 seconds
I hate to burst bubbles but this year the trans am was a piece of shit...still cool looking but no balls what so ever...the engine was starved with emissions and fuel conservasion crap.
@MidnightNSavannah very true...Ol' John deLorean himself used to show PONTIAC stat people how to "Under-rate" the Firebirds HP & Torque to get it past the EPA ..hahahaha.
True but considering the size of the motor a 455. It was better than driving a pinto. Also at that time all they had to do was cut off the cats. That more than likely added 40 hp.
Excellent video of all the scenes in Smokey and the Bandit. Love the song the movie and think it was one of the best comedies ever made. Thanks for the wonderful post guys and the great picture of Paul Williams.
