the gov has a website that does the calculation for you, just put in the numbers. also displays it on a graph and shows a comparison on how your observed mileage compares to the epa estimates for your vehicle and other drivers of the same vehicle. and if done an extended period of time, it could help be an early guide to the car needing repairs by way of noticing a mileage drop that's out of a normal range.
