He's the master! No one else quite captures the lust and romance behind his singing. I mean Harry Connick Junior's version is a nice take, but just not the same. It's ment to be slow and and 50's ish.
remember ...the younger crowd.. thats why we have these singing talent shows...keep the faith, someday you could be as good, and famous as Frank...but never as good. good luck.
I love Mr. Frank Sinatra! His legacy is timeless! Thank you ever so much for posting these videos. Love it...love it...love it and so much am appreciative of good music! :-)
I just saw the movie "When Harry Met Sally"... I must have seen that movie a zillion times now, but I stiil enjoy the ending... Maybe I'm just a lost, miserable romantic who keeps trying and trying and trying... I sure hope my ship comes in sometime in my lifetime... I hope that you and your family have a great Christmas and a pleasant New Years... I love You Patti...
Another example of a great introduction that most never include in their presentations.... Why do so many never include one of the best parts of song.....
One of Sinatra's finest recordings, done on July 18, 1979 at the ripe old age of 63. Chuck Finley on trumpet and Dick Nash on trombone help give this recording an extra special sound. Frank always had the best musicians, the best conductors, and the best composers. That's because he was a musical genius...and demanded perfection. The recording studio was his domain!!!
I want to play this on my wedding dance. I am years from that and my love left me but this is what i will be playing when her and i reunite and start our lives together again.
I love this song. I fell in love with a lady and this will always be our song. Our movie was When Harry Met Sally. Bonnie is my Sally. She will always be the girl of my dreams. I love you Sally....I will always love you. Harry
Why do I do just as you say? Why must I just give you your way? Why do I sigh? Why don't I try to forget? It must have been that something lovers call fate, kept me saying I have to wait.... I saw them all, just couldn't fall till we met....
It had to be you <3
One of my favorite love songs about seeing, as the cliche goes, an imperfect person perfectly. Despite all their faults, flaws, vices... It had to be wonderful you.
I love the fact looney tunes used to have such an impact on people as kids. A cartoon from the 50's brought people here because they always remember this song, and I don't see that happening with kids today and cartoons now.
Frank's version of this is my favorite. My ex got me into Frank, and it always makes me think of her for good or bad.
Frank's pipes are getting a little rusty here. However, he's still the greatest singer that ever lived. It's hard to believe it's been almost 13 years since we lost Ol' Blue Eyes. Frank, your voice and talent are eternal. R.I.P.
I've been in hip hop, rock, alternative, metal, thrash metal, death metal, black metal, avant-garde metal, jazz fusion and symphonic metal along with a bit of jpop, jrock (japanese music) also korean, electronic, psycho, trance and all the music you can imagine. I heard the most hardcore things you can find, things that would have killed my grandma of a heart attack... at the end few of that and a lot of this gives me shivers and makes me sing...
@PancakeOrGTFO I admire that diversity. This song, and other songs of this age, really need no comparison to be thought highly of. I'd like to think Sinatra and Gaga can be on the same shelf and not bother each other.
Now this is music. Pure, classic, style. I grew up with this music. Dancing to it. This is romance at a very high level. Imagine dancing with a beautiful woman in arms. Just enjoying her company. God, I miss this voice. What a wonderful version. Frank Sinatra was all about class and style.Thank you for the posting and the memories.
I'm 21 an I'm the one that introduced Sinatra to my family. My grandma said its because he was a guy for her parents and that her an grandpa liked Elvis. So after my great grandparents passed on no one ever listen to him till I came along. I loved him all my life and nothing an no one will take that away.
my bf is in vegas w/ his family on vacation and i miss him sooo much. this song makes me think of him and makes me miss him even more lol. but hey it's just like in the song. "you make me feel glad, just to be sad, thinking of you" <3
love beautiful music like this, old fashioned. it sucks how things are so artificial in our world today. things used to be clissical and real. there used to be so many real amazing people. now people sing about sex and drugs. back then it only used to be about love. the beatles had it right, frank sinatra had it right. its not about sex and drugs and achohol, loits about love. all of that other stuff is just stuff people add on to make it more 'exciting' when love itself is already excitiing. :)
Love this version. He could sell a song in any form-swing or ballad. The older I get ,The more I appreciate that era? Thanks for putting this version on-line.
I am fortunate. I am 22, but thanks to my father I grew up with Frank and the Gang, there is nothing better on this planet than a good old Frank number.
Big shout out to the young generation, like me, I've been listening to Ol' blue eyes since I was 11 and now I am 22 years old. I am definitely sharing this with my kids and my grand children.
This is (I believe) the same version performed on the movie "When Harry Met Sally" at the end when Billy Crystal realizes he really is in love with Meg Ryan and runs back to give her his speech at the New Years party.
Magnificent version, too, and no one, but NO ONE does it up quite the way Sinatra did.
I have got to say, Sinatra is without a doubt my favorite male vocalist. His voice is just so swoon-worthy! And that's saying a lot coming from a 14 year old girl!
I wish that the singers of this time that we live in were still singing this style of music, for it is truly wondrous and of a greater musical talent.
To be honesty i heard this in looney tunes. 'Oh franky', and i loved this song, especially, 'it had to be you and at the time i was like 8, then recently i heard it on looney tunes and just had to google it. Now the majority of the music i listen to are from 50,60,70,80,90's. most 21st century music sucks, especially rap, hip-pop. Before i liked it before. I'm black and i hate rap and i evn listen to rock.
@BROLYCURLY my dear mam or sir ... you got some class goin on there ;) if you like the old cartoons look up tex avery he has a cult following great stuff from ther 40's ..

@BROLYCURLYable don't be surprised because you are 'black' and you like this music or even ROCK ! I also like all kinds of music but I don't see my color being a reason to be surprised that I like those other GENRES... I like rap music because I went to highschool in the late 90s and that's the music that I could relate to the most... but It doesn't make me any less likely to like FRANK ! GET IT !?
@BROLYCURLYable Aww thats harsh! conscious RAP is INCREDIBLE and highly evolved. it stands for rhythm and poetry. And new music is great too if you look! Its just that mainstream popular mass communicated music is watered down. even pop rock. Back in the day pop music was good, it was jazz and motown. now its commercialism and ego-flexing, but back then there were less people so it was easier to be famous. Now there are so many people on planet earth that you just cant hear them all.

@loyaldude10 listen to the Sinatra version from the late 30's. Nobody can touch it. Not even Harry Connick who I think did a terrific job, by the way.
im 16,i grew up listening to sinatra tony bennette and dean martin, and to tell you the truth this is real music!i listen to everything too,but i think this is the best!it had to be you!
I totaly agree with ninahenderson100... I was in charge of the lighting and pre-show music when my school did Father of the Bride last month, and all I played was love songs by Frank Sinatra and older artists... We got so many compliments on this music.. even from the students!
I'm 1 1/2 years old and I love this song. It has a warmth and is filled with sweet sentiment I don't hear in the music of today. I love Frank Sinatra a lot.

This track is from the "Past" part of the 3-album release "Trilogy."
I recall reading that BOTH SInatra and Tony Bennett regarded "It Had to be You" as their favorite song to sing.
Listening to this recording, I can certainly appreciate their perspective.

Now there are so many people on planet earth that you just cant hear them all.

no disrespect to the great sinatra but harry connick's version blows this away

@loyaldude10 listen to the Sinatra version from the late 30's. Nobody can touch it. Not even Harry Connick who I think did a terrific job, by the way.
