Did you hire a home inspector during the construction of your house? I am a former (thank God) KB home owner. I hired an inspector from day one. KB didn't like it, but my inspector made them stop and repair many things during construction.
@jvolstad Trust me, I wish to god we did after everything. A neighbor told me he has a family member that was a former inspector that found code violations in their new KB Home being built including one having to do with structure. He also told me the foreman seemed real nervous when they were checking and measuring everything. Trust me, I would have hired an army of inspectors had I had any idea of the potential nightmare we might be dealing with. Now we're hearing random loud snapping noises.
Doors don't fit flush Windows don't function consistently Window hardware breaks easily Ceilings not straight (none of them) Kitchen floors developed stains (not from me) Three bedroom closet doors fell OFF. 2 of the replacements came damaged in the box. Carrier A/C unit failed in under a year (thank goodness for warranty, but still) Floors upstairs creak like a haunted house Concrete under carpets cracked within a year (they don't give these houses time to settle) Garage door leaks
I worked for KB Homes as a sales agent, I have seen all these issues and so much more.
I know of a home that was bult with the wood being delievred to the site and it came a rain storm for about a week the wood lying on the ground, they framed the house using this wood, it caused mold, the home owner came in a talked to us about it,I wasn't the agent on that sale, the agent told the community builder and supervisor, KB solution, wash the wood down with Clorox water, the EPA had a fit over this
