Gotta handle the big ones horizontally...if you hold vertically the organs can actually move to the bottom of the body causing death...just a heads up.
A good tip is to weigh the net, and then weigh the fish in the net, and deduct the net weight. Being held up by the gills is not good for the fish especially for 28lb'ers. Good to hear he released it, the bigger fish are always females and give birth to many more which keeps the lake full of pike, kill the big ones and you end up with a lake full of small ones.
Negative. He put it back in as fast as possible because it was already weak and he didn't want it to die. Looking back on it I think he wishes he would have kept it because it seemed pretty old and would probably die soon anyway.
