this plane has different parameters than a modern solid crisp and powerful aerobatic machine. it is not really made for classic low altitude craziness.

the power to weight ratio is not as good as on other designs. it was kinda obvious at that moment of last lomcovak type of thing that he was too low to recover.

also...It was NOT engine trouble. He did the stunt at too low of an altitude. Maybe some of you armchair pilots would know that but I suppose you must have missed that part of class. You cant do a stunt that requires 600ft of altitude in 200ft. Especially in a Bi-plane with a prop.

Mrjerrybravo: think about this for a second: you have to be very cautious moving in so as not to hit the pilot with the prop, damage your boat on debris ( zodies can get punctured, no rescues at that point) rescue swimmers had to try to get a fix on best place to look for pilot then get in and get him out. I will say this, it looked like they had no rescue divers, which may have speeded up the recovery. So cut the rescue crews some slack.

Most of you blames the slow rescue effort, but there is no way he would have survived the such a hard impact! The original comment suggested some type of mechanical problem with smoke and such, but it appears more of a pure pilot error. If it were mechanical, you would have heard the engine sputtering or such. He started the full-stall maneuver at the top of the climb without enough altitude margin. It was too low to recover. My heart goes out to the family and his friends.

Well, actually there was a lot of fuel in that plane and it came out and was floating on the water, so they had to figure out a safe way to go underwater through this. And the plane has sank almost in a few seconds after that crash, what we can see on the water are only patrs of wings etc, so they also needed to get special tools that will work underwater to get him out.
