  • What do you think of all those effects units tho!? Does that take anything away from the musicality of a piece,so to speak? Are they good, bad?

  • What is the song during 3:23 and 3:45? during the scene of the cartoons :)

    Thanks!

  • @cachimbasteam yeah I want to know it too

  • @Princefillip, well said man, your absolutely right.

  • To all the people who think you're only good at how intricately you can solo an instrument: It's not a show pony contest. It's about the whole "experience" of hearing music, from individual notes to the finished sound that all instruments working as one produce.

The Edge personifies the above better than anyone else. A "team player" if you will, not wanting to overshadow the rest of the group. Hell if he was all about HIS ability as a guitarist, he'd just be another Joe Satriani or whoever.

  • @PrinceFillip You hit the nail on the the head dude, It's all about contrasting styles using the same musical instrument. We "get it". The retards don't...

  • jimmy is the man

  • Jimmy's answer about the future of rock was AWESOME.

  • Definitely only one legend there

  • @Robbiedbee fuck you jack whites amazing too fucktard

  • @squirtlesquad28 He's good, but he's hardly a legend sweetheart.

  • My left ear enjoyed that

  • @MrThezho i had that too haha

  • maybe all you people bitching about 'edge ' should listento waht he is playing rather than worry about how he's playing it . There is an art to using efx tastefully . Do none of you realize that Page was one of the best at using efx and echo delay and all that type of thing , and he did it on nearly every record he produced ?

  • 2.50 can you tell me please the name of song?

  • @Neksys1 that would be Stairway to heaven by Led Zeppelin

  • Jack White is incredible, Jimmy Page is incredible. The Edge just uses effects.

  • @ApparatusUnearth Yes, he does use effects but that's his style of playing!!!!!!! Why can't anybody accept that??

  • @LedZepPhil Cause his style doesn't fit with the other two. He's not really that great of a player, he just uses effects to fill that in. It works for U2, but I don't want to see him jamming because he's not worth watching.

  • @ApparatusUnearth OK agreed but that's the hole point! Page, White an The edge are completely different in playing guitar and that's why they brought them together, to share ideas etc. I'm not a huge fan of The Edge either but I respect his over 30 years career in music history and his innovative use of effects!! He for sure is like page of which I'm a huge fan but that's who the edge is! We can't do anything about that dude!! P.S Do you like Led Zeppelin???

  • @ApparatusUnearth Edge may use affects, but he and U2 are the top paid group ever in history so what he does must be incredible huh?

  • @ddbarnes11 Oh, totally, their music is great! It fits their style well, I'm just saying I wouldn't include him as a "guitar great".

  • @ApparatusUnearth Oh ok.

  • @ApparatusUnearth maybe but that doesn't take away that he's a great guitarist!

  • @ApparatusUnearth and also u2 is the best band at this moment

  • @ApparatusUnearth I agree, but The Edge was extremely innovative in his playing style, he made it his own. He is great at using different effects to produce his unique and mesmerising sound.

  • This is fantastic. It doesn't matter what your tastes are: 3 generations of music, each caused a musical shift in one way or another. Believe it or not, this is a PERFECT group.

Anyway, as a guitarist and bassist I'm impartial as to who is in it. As a gear nerd I'm seriously interested in guitarists' rigs, no matter who they are. And not to mention, learning their techniques as they share them. You WILL NOT improve as a musician with a closed mind.

  • I'm sure plenty of people have already suggested who would have made a better third person than Jack White. How about Eddie Van Halen? Keith Richards? Angus?!!! Alex Lifeson? Oh wait, not young enough? How about Kirk Hammet? Steve Drozd? At least put together three people who can actually jam. I say do-over and try to at least bring Jimmy Page back.

  • @thunderbaloney jimmy page, james hetfield, and keith richards.

  • @thunderbaloney I have a question .Have you watched this film ? what do you think this movie is actually about ?

  • There needs to be a movie called "It might get Louder" starring Slash, Joe Perry, and Angus Young

  • WHY OK THE POINT IS THAT JACK BLACK IS GOOD , BUT IT S NOT HE S NOT THE BEST OF OUR GENERATION , I PREFER MATBELLAMY , COME ON!

  • Jack White seems to be acting all the time to me

  • What a great life jimmy must have. being famous and popular and extremely talented. his whole life was probably amazing for him. even when hes getting old

  • movie should be called two hacks bothering Jimmy Page

  • @ilovegemgem lol

  • @ilovegemgem I'm sorry but do you even know who Jack white is, because it doesn't seem like it !!

  • @ilovegemgem U sir are a fuckhead

  • I watched it and I hate to say...it's not good. :(

  • Jimmy Page concentrating face= -3-

  • NO offense against him (Edge) because he is clearly talented, I would have liked to have seen somebody like lindsay buckingham or david crosby or mark knopfler - if it must be an 80's guitarist

When he says the bit about barely playing the instrument and working pedals/effects instead it makes me cringe a bit >.v

  • Comment removed

  • I believe David Gilmour should've taken the place for the edge

  • JJ fuckin abrams

  • I mean personally jack white is my favorite but thats not diminishing jimmy at all. I mean obviously we all know he's a bad ass...and the edge...Tom morrelo writes all his shit on an acoustic guitar. And makes it sound alien later or whatever. I see him as more innovative just not as popular as the edge.

  • Who is that at 5:35???? is it jack?

  • 1:55 CHRISTMAS FOR JACK WHITE

  • What is that song at 2:27?

  • @joseayp Blue Veins

  • The heck is the song at 2:30? I really wanna see that performance.

  • why is the edge in this?

what, the guy from reo speedwagon was unavailable?

  • The edge is so full of shit.

  • love jimmy and the edge

  • ...two rock legends.

  • @whatstillremains ...well 1 legend and the edge then.

  • from what song is it that solo at 1:38?

  • @kayaguns Stairway to Heaven

  • @kayaguns Whole Lotta Love

  • GREAT JIMMY PAGE

BEST ROCK GROUP S IN THE WORLD EVER AND EVER

    LED ZEPPELIN

    BEST SUPER STAR

    PETER FROM GERMANY

GREATING S TO OLD BUT YOUNG HEROES

    THE NEVER DIE

    PETER

  • dood i wanna see this.

  • Damn.. seems a lot of people completely missed out the whole point of this documentary, The three guitarists differ entirely in playing style, equipment choices, background, audience, motive and span three generations of rock music. It wasn't a contest over who can rip the greatest solo or sold the most albums. Each artist is innovative and was fresh and exciting when they broke through. If they had Jimmy Page with Jeff Beck and Pete Townshend, the documentary wouldn't have the same meaning.

  • @withengineheart The edge? innovative??? ohh com'on! Don't get me fool please, if was for it, better bring to Tom Morello, he really was a Innovation in the guitar playing.

The edge is the greatest Overrated guitar player EVER!

  • @JotaMcCready oh come on i love the edge

  • @withengineheart

The people who put the edge and jack white in there are the same ones who vote Curt Cobain in the top 100 guitarist of all time. They are not great guitar players... they are great song writers. As for top three guitarist that span different decades I would of picked Jimmi Page, Eddie Van Halen, and Jerry Cantrell

  • @Saxby8six this isnt a movie about great guitar players . Its a movie about the electric guitar , and happens to use these 3 , who have made a living playing the electric guitar , as examples of different approaches that can be taken to the instrument .It's about how these particular 3 came to play in the first place , and what compelled them to do so . It's not about different generations , or who was the top player in a given decade .The "people who put edge in there " are the producers .

  • @Saxby8six I have been driven to frustration about that for a yr now . It's dead horse I think . People are just too thick , or have nt watched the actual film

  • @withengineheart That's the difference between Guitarists and Guitards. Guitards want to turn everything into a competition.

  • @withengineheart toda la razon amigo nada mas q agragar grande el rock n roll y la epoca de amtaño q es mejor q cualquier musica de ahora ......

  • @withengineheart Well said. I hope to everyone could read what you've written.

  • The Edge is a great guitarist and Jimmy and Jack were able to click together well because they were similar while The Edge was in his own corner of music.

  • Jack White is a rock legend? I must have been asleep.

  • @DukeStarbuckle

Yeah, I guess you were...sucks for you.

  • @DukeStarbuckle You should probably just go back to sleep. Leave the genius music to those who deserve it.

  • "What do you think the next generation of rock n roll has for it?" Jimmy Page: uhhhhh....

  • @Lucashenri123 Stairway to Heaven / Led Zeppelin

  • @Lucashenri123 Stairway to Heaven - Led Zeppelin

  • whats the song @2:50 ?

  • @lucashenri123 you are probably watching the wrong video

  • wOOw

  • Jack White and The Edge (what a ridiculous name and musician) are not rock legends at all! Sorry

  • after watching this movie i respect jack white even though i hated the white stripes and goes to i found a new level of hatred for U2 the edge was a fucking douche!!! half the time he was talking about politics and shit that goes on in ireland the movie was about the electric guitar not about catholics and protestants killing each other i swear U2 is the biggest piece of shit band in the planet!!!

  • Jimmy Page is for sure a rock legend, The Edge is pretty damn innovative, but I don't think he's a legend, and while I respect Jack White, he's nowhere near being a rock legend.

  • Jimmy page is so Nice! He's not very truthfull, but he's very nice. I'm living on dog food.

  • i love the fact that about two million people still trust in good music while everything is sorounded in the sea of commercial bad music

  • and that kids, thats why 60s to 70s were awesome after 80s it was starting to get shit and now ...

    it is SHIT

  • What the fuck is Jack White doing in there, his's no legend. Its an insult to my own heroes who influence 100s and 1000s of musicians from around the world, not to mention providing a soundtrack to our memories. Who did Jack influence?

  • @bassgypsy00 me.

  • @bassgypsy00 me too.

  • @bassgypsy00 100s and 1000s of other musicians

  • @bassgypsy00 maybe you should watch the whole documentary before you judge

  • @bassgypsy00 Jack White is arguably the most influential guitar player of this generation. He fronts 2 amazing bands now, and until last year 1 absolutely incredible band the white stripes. He knows what he wants to get out of his sound and he delivers it in spades every time. He has so much heart and respect for past influences and you can tell that when he plays. To be honest, they should make a movie based solely on Jack White and what his creative process is. The man is a beast. enough said

  • @bengraeff1 @rusticnacho420 @LouiseDeWolfe @jgriff95 From what I've listen too, he's a folk singer that plays simple cords, so I found his guitar playing dull a long with his songs, they do nothing for me. HOWEVER, I am moved by the passion you all put forth, so there maybe something there I missed. I am sometimes blinded by the fact I grew up wanting to be the strongest player in the room and new music does not adhere to this philosophy, so it appears I need to give Jake a second listen.

  • @bassgypsy00 It is very good that you have realized this fact. Although jack hasn't made as much as an influence as Jimmy, he certainly is one of our generations top artists. He is true to the art of music and not some fucking wanna be like lil Wayne, Lady Gaga, ect. (pretty much everyone in mainstream music). It is definitely not about how fast you can play but the message and feel you can convey in your music; And that is why he is here.

  • @Alexander87oclock I am seeing that Jack understands the importances of silence and simplistic, its the best and easiest way to make a piece of music = silence is golden.

  • @bassgypsy00 You're an idiot. He is currently influencing musicians with his two HUGELY successful bands. You cant deny that he is an influential musician at all. The White Stripes and The Raconteurs made a whole new sound.

  • @rudepolarbear The Raconteurs are cool and explore some nice grooves, but I don't like the white strips, they reminds me of lot of weak bands I heard during my ten years spend at downtown studio in LA. I believe its jack's voice that allows so many to except the instrumental part of the music. Btw, its my ear and my experience not yours. I'm glad you get inspiration from both bands. Its impotent for development to have a clear goal in mind. I truly hope you achieve your goals.

  • @bassgypsy00 well, considering he's one of the only big musician's of this generation that stays true to themselves and actually writes about real stuff, i think you've gotta give him some credit

  • jack white?........for fuck sakes.....really.....did all the other great guitar players die?....too bad kurt cobaine was not still alive

  • I don't know who this Jack White fella is but when I saw this movie he didn't have a great impression on me. Jimmy Page is obviously the most talented guitarist here, but The Edge comes from U2, my favorite band, and his work, yet simplistic, is moving.

  • Tbh, I don't mind this, but Jimmy Page is the only real Legend as such. Possibly the edge, I don't even really like Zeppelin, I like only a few songs by Led so I ain't no massive fan, but Jimmy Page is the only worth while guitarist here in my opinion. They should have got like Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck...in fact lets get a yardbirds thing going on! Anyway, there are better legends that could have appeared on this style of thing. Peace!

  • fuck all those harcore zeppelin fans!!! i love the white stripes and U2 and they are as great and influential as page

  • @CarEdy23 not even close. zeppelin created hard rock which in turn created metal. u2 made annoying music and the white stripes made a few good songs

  • @MrBingping you know hard rock and metal is not the only good music there is

  • @CarEdy23 i dont even like metal. im just giving them the credit they deserve. my fav's blues

  • @MrBingping ok man sorry i just think they are not giving the right credit to other guitar players

  • Jimmy Page is legend.

Jack White needs to learn about tone.

The Edge, who is into effects, effectively stinks.

Saw the show last week .

  • dave grohl is jesus. jimmy page is a god. jack white is just amazing. its that simple. but haters gonna hate anyway

  • Jimmy Page, obvious. The Edge, sure. Jack White, no. Other responses to Jack White's participation would be huh? why? seriously? That pretentious prick who played those two songs that one time? Who? Is that the interviewer? Is that Johnny Depp? Is that Sarah Gilbert from roseanne?

  • @mcneely2818 Hating on Jack White are we? That means there are two possibilities: you have either never heard a White Stripes album, or you simply have no taste in music. So which is it?

  • @wasneeplus you forgot option 3: Jack White is high on himself. Music is subjective, tastes obviously differ. But the status of "legend" is not subjective. Jack White has been on the scene long enough to obtain a moderate following of stuck up hipsters, and to convince them that a badly tuned guitar sounds artistic. Bullshit.

  • @mcneely2818 Well, I wouldn't know about that. All I know is that The White Stripes was the first band since Nirvana to speak to me like that. I'll take their music over the Foo Fighters or Korn or Smashing Pumpkins etc. any day.

Besides, Jack White has quite a lot of mainstream critical acclaim. It's not like it's just the hipsters. Hell, I don't know anyone I would describe as a hipster, least of all myself.

  • @wasneeplus Foo Fighters, Smashing Pumpkins, and Korn have nothing to do with each other musically, or with Jack White for that matter, so that was confusing. Mainstream critical acclaim, as you put it, is pointless. It is given to people like lady gaga, bieber, plain white t's, etc. every damn day. the video is called "three rock legends". By all accounts, White is far from the status of "legend", however popular he may be in some circles.

  • @mcneely2818 The point of that little enumeration was to give a quick overview of rock music between Nirvana and the White Stripes. As someone with a rather broad taste in music, I can appreciate all kinds of artists. The White Stripes stand tall among the best of the last two decades in my opinion.

And I'm not saying critical acclaim means you're good, just that you're not just for the hipsters.

As for the legend part, well just have to see in 20 years.

  • I still love both Page and Clapton tho

  • I dont think page has the blues like clapton though.

  • It would have been the greatest movie ever if they kept Jimmy Page to represent the late 60s and 70s, Eddie Van Halen to represent the late 70s to 80s, Slash to represent the late 80s to 90s, and maybe someone like Dave Grohl or Mike McCreedy to represent the 90s to 2000s

  • @WeAreWhiteChains hahahaha dave grohl....pshht they wouldn't accept trash like that!!!

  • @MegaSlimes Actually Dave Grohl is an extremely talented musician. The stuff he does in Foo Fighters might not be comlicated but if u watch live solos played by him he is actually really talented. Also he is an outstanding drummer as we all already know.

  • @WeAreWhiteChains I would even argue that he is a much better drummer than he is a guitar player. Such a shame he doesn't do that any more.

  • @MegaSlimes BTW go play some Peggle

  • I love this movie...

  • Rock legends? You mean Rock Legend. This is fucking ridiculous. Page must have been high to have agreed to be on the stage with these two poser clowns.

  • @silverburst1979 Hahahaha you are fucking hilarious. Each one is a legend in thier own way.And posers?! haha do stand up you close minded fuck.

  • @LofiCactus86 Hey, that's not very nice. For guys like White, who have been on the scene very very recently, it is really a stretch to say he is a Legend. Good, but Legend, like "hero" should be carefully used words. Where Page has inspired millions to play and was an innovator. When they hit the scene in 1968, no one had ever heard anything like "Communication Breakdown". So He, and later The Who, really developed the Genre of Hard Rock. So that is my thought process. Take Care.

  • @silverburst1979 well when you put it that way you are right, Iam a huge fan of Page and i feel Whites style is very unique and innovative in his own way. im sorry im just a fanboy at heart and it got the better of me there, no hard feelings man i respect your opinon

  • @silverburst1979 "you're just ignoraaant"

  • @louisalive If you are going to throw insults, first get a dictionary.

  • @silverburst1979 You're obviously not a nirvana fan. It's not an insult, it's an observation. If one dislikes such a virtuoso, they incontestably don't have a replete knowledge of said musician's music, to even consider such a conclusion (that good enough english for you?)

  • @louisalive I actually love Nirvana. So don't make assumptions. I don't dislike ANY Guitar player. I am one. It is always interesting how people on these sites take comments about a video as a attack on their own beliefs. So I am not insulting you. It isn't accurate to make assumptions about me, my musical knowledge or tastes. I like everything from the Sex Pistols to you name it (unless that band is Nickleback and that's my one exception for hate-haha). So take care and enjoy the music

  • @silverburst1979 nirvana comment was aimed at someone else, I thought they were dissing my spelling of "nevermind"... Says the guy who seems to care what I think har har har. I'm a guitarist too! Isn't that a coincidence, considering this is a video about guitarists, how ironic!!! (i was talking about jack white tbh, the edge can do one) Calling someone a "poser clown" usually conveys a certain dislike, wouldn't you agree? Also, I was quoting Michael Jackson, u should have picked up on that

  • @louisalive Yep, poser clown was over the top. I spent the evening listening to Zeppelin, Achilles last stand being the final song. Then looked at this on youtube. I was drinking heavily. haha

  • @silverburst1979 my daily workout is playing achilles last stand on drums

  • @louisalive Wow, That would be a workout!

  • @silverburst1979 or just play through a QOTSA album haha (they coulda used Josh Homme here IMO, but he's a lot lesser known unfortunately) how did we get so civil, we're on youtube?! We should be all like "you know nothing you gay cunt, go fuck yourself you shitbag"

  • @louisalive Josh Homme would have been perfect for this

  • jimmy page is fucking god

  • 0:40 lol The Edge and Jack's faces are priceless. I'd look that way too if I was watching Jimmy play.

  • a good guitarist

  • I'm not wrong buddy. Jack White sucks out loud. Sorry to burst your bubble. Page is a god, and the others aren't in the same league with him. It's like putting Andy Warhol on the same stage with Leonardo DiVinci. Sure they're both artists, but come on....

  • @Klipklopp

    Dumbass . . .

  • @Klipklopp WTF are you talking about! Lets get this right "Jack White Sucks Out Loud" even if you hated rock, and only liked classical music, you could not deny that Jack White does not "Suck Out Loud" you are a fucking dim witted moron, who for some reason thinks everyone is against Jimmy Page! Tell you what, with your guitar knowledge, play an easy song of Jacks, 7 nation army to even 20% of the standard of Jack White, post it, then talk shit! If not Fuck Off!

  • @Klipklopp you clearly don't understand "art"... Nevermind music

  • @Klipklopp you're a straight-up idiot when it comes to music. Page is definitely a god, but Jack White is incredible. He does some amazing stuff on his guitar.

  • titles wrong. none of em are legends. jack white is ok and who cares about the edge. and page? hes not a legend, hes a god.

  • @MrBingping Lets get this right... I am ok on the guitar, can hold a tune, play about, some people even think i'm pretty good! So NO Jack White is More than fucking OK... you haters are on crack or something on this page!

  • @lukie69 yeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh no. not even the same. hes ok as a PROFESSIONAL guitar player. if you were an ok PROFESSIONAL guitar player than you would be better than most people. there not even in the same league. if you cant recognize how much better page is than white than people complimenting your are generous.

  • @MrBingping Jimmy Page is a legend, you clearly know nothing about music if you think otherwise. Edge and White though, not so much..

  • @TorpAirport read the whole comment dumbass

  • @TorpAirport Too lazy to read the last 3 fucking words?

  • @MrBingping If the Edge is not a legend, what are YOU? a dump in this world!

  • @plabrz oh no! you called me a dump. now im gonna have to cry myself to sleep for the next few days. fuck off and stop trolling. no where did i compare him to me (although i know i dont need 60 effects to play guitar...) hes nothing compared to jack white and a fly sitting on a peice of shit compared to page.

  • @MrBingping ahahaha please don't write anything if you know nothing about music. You don't "need" 60 effects to play guitar because probably you can't use them. When you will be able to play like he does, call me. But till that moment shut the fuck up. :) byeeeee

  • @plabrz whats your number?

  • @MrBingping so you think you can play like him!! well, everyone knows him and nobody knows you. Ever asked why?? Sorry i don't have time to waste with you. Byeee :)

  • @plabrz email then?

  • @plabrz the edge is not a legend. the guy your getting offended by isnt saying hes a legend you dumb shithead. hes saying the edge isnt one. he just uses stupid pedals and a gay stage name to look cool and famous. jimmy page is the only legend in this video. or should i say "god".

  • page is the only legend here big time!

  • Theyre all great.

    Everyone stfu kthx.

  • but i only see 1 rock legend tho..

  • @angelacevedo2112 you obviously don't know an amazing guitarist when you see one...The Edge is great and Jack White is amazing

  • @iamtheipodman Calling white "amazing" is extremely generous.

  • watch this

The Dead Weather - "Will There Be Enough Water" - Live from The Roxy

and tell me Jack White can't play guitar!

    and btw edge sucks!!!

  • why i cant add comments?

  • dude their all great stop saying whos better and whos not
