Except for like he's a millionaire several times over for the hundred or so songs he wrote and put out in the 80's. It was almost impossible to be cool in pop music industry in the 80's. Even Madonna was extremely uncool. I think Lionel Ritchie was sooo uncool that he actually comes back around full circle to become cool.

I think David Cook performed the song fantastically! So, who cares if another rock band also covered the same song...? More power to Cook for choosing to 'cover' the song in a different style than the original recording by Lionel Richie. C'mon, just enjoy it: Finally there's someone on the show who can rock, sing, play guitar, and woo the girls... He's good. He's got my vote.
